Game Night at the Beach

Every year when we’re down at our timeshare in the Outer Banks, we have game nights. It’s one of the few times we can all get together to play board or other games because my younger daughter lives in Chicago. But when we get to the beach, we play for all we’re worth.

ALWAYS, we play some form of Monopoly (my favorite). I collect all the different kinds (It Monopoly, Gloucester-Opoly, Bridgerton, Wicked, and now Supernatural Monopoly). My daughters have Dungeons & Dragons and Pug-O-Poly! And this year we chose to play the Bridgerton version.

It’s incredibly fun because it’s enough like the original to be familiar, and yet it has its own differences that make it fun and challenging. The money is different–two denominations of coins (paper) 1 and 5 pounds. So immediately it’s easier. And the best thing is the two types of cards. Instead of Community Chest and Chance we have Lady Whistledown and The Ton. Best perhaps is the fact that they are written to sound just like Lady Whistledown and reference things like scandals and matches made or lost. Many of them are similar to the originals (cards that send you to jail, cards that make you pay for any pavilions or estates you own, or cards that award you sums of money). But there are also cards that allow you to trade properties with another player or outright take one of their properties. Those keep the game lively, let me tell you! The tokens are things from the Bridgerton series, like a top hat, a locket, a bee. A very fun take on the original board game.

We also played Telestrations, which is like a blend of Telephone and Pictionary, and is guaranteed to make you laugh. And this year one of my daughters brought a new game, Poetry for Neanderthals.

This game is a sort of blend of Password and 10,000 Dollar Pyramid with a club if you make a mistake. The objective is to get your partner to say a particular word or phrase, but you can only use words of one syllable to do so.  The inflatable club is used if you use more than one syllable and the bopping is extremely fun. I really do suggest you play this as it’s a great addition to any game night.

We also played Exploding Minions and a Supernatural themed game, but they paled next to the others. So now I’m waiting patiently for Christmas when we’ll all meet again for a game night.

As Long As You’re Mine: “That…feels…so good!”

As you may have noticed, the Weekend Writing Warrior posts are no more. This series of blog hops, which happened every Sunday since before I began writing back in 2009 (called Six Sentence Sunday then), had been a staple of mine until last year when I was prevented from typing by my shoulder injury. The hop had dwindled to a handful of die-hards and then, when I finally returned to the land of the writing, I discovered it had ceased. Sad day for me, I will tell you.

However, I’ve decided to continue on, after a fashion, by posting snippets of my most current release, and occasionally a sneak peek at my current WIP. I hope these posts–still on Sundays–will keep you up to date and engaged with my writing.

So today I’m starting with my most recent release, As Long As You’re Mine. The snippet is a bit longer than the traditional 10 sentences, but it’s my party now, so I get to make the rules. 🙂

BLURB:

A scandalous mistake…or a wicked way to happiness?

Hoping to compromise herself, Lady Amantha Easton sneaks into the bedroom of her would-be suitor only to find a total stranger there—a totally handsome, charming stranger to be sure—but not at all the man she plans to marry. She leaves his room with her reputation intact—barely—only to fall victim to the gentleman’s charms in a public place. Now Amantha must face the fate she’s tried to avoid—marriage to a man who will never love her.

All Rafael Beauregard wanted was a warm bed and a good night’s sleep…but what he got was an unexpected romp with a beautiful vixen and a fiery kiss that left him wanting more. An excellent trade, except now he’s got to marry Lady Amantha, one of the most willful women he’s ever met. So Rafe’s challenge is to persuade her that marriage to him might be the best thing for them both…once he convinces himself.

EXCERPT:

“Oh, Raif!” She could scarcely breathe now. “That…feels…so good.”

“I thought it might. You’re awful sweet.” His low, sleepy voice sounded odd under the covers. On the verge of asking if he was well, she lost the thought when he lifted his head from her breast and crushed his lips to hers.

All else forgotten, she wouldn’t have cared if the house burned down around them. His lips were hot, insistent. Then he plied the seam with his tongue, softly urged it to part for him. She had no desire to resist and soon he had buried his tongue deep in her mouth. A tentative stroke of her own brought a growl of encouragement, and she abandoned herself to explore his willing mouth. She did things she’d never dreamed she’d do, with Raif or anyone else. And she only wanted more. “Oh, Raif. I never thought it could be like this.”

He chuckled. “How soon you forget, Jenny.”

“Jenny?” Amantha froze, her blood turning to ice in her veins. “Who’s Jenny?” Sudden anger lit a fire in her, and she pushed him away. “How many women were you expecting in your bed tonight, Raif?”

“What?” The sleepiness had flown from his voice. “You’re not Jenny?”

“You expected me to be?” This was a nightmare. They weren’t even married and Raif was being unfaithful to her.

“I didn’t expect anyone in my bed.” He threw off the covers and fumbled at the bedside table.

“What do you mean you didn’t expect me? We had planned this, Raif.” What the devil was the man playing at?

“We?” A match flared as he lit the lamp, the sudden light after the darkness almost blinding her. She put her hand up to shield her eyes.

“What do you mean, we?” He sat up in the bed, rubbing his eyes. “Who are you, sweetheart?”

The voice, now unmuffled, certainly did not have the superior tone of Raiford Tolbert. Slowly Amantha lowered her hand to find a man with dark hair she’d never seen before peering at her.

Dear God, what had she done?

News from the Beach

Well, it’s been an eventful week so far–so eventful I’m just now sitting down to tell you about it!

Our trek down on the 4th of July was actually uneventful. We decided to travel late in the day and although we didn’t get to the Outer Banks until 9:00 at night, there was absolutely NO TRAFFIC! So we settled into our condo–not our usual one as we traded for one on the first floor–and have been having a blast ever since.

Not as great a view as our second floor condo, but NO STAIRS!

I’ve been reading for the first time in months, Diana Gabaldon’s Go Tell the Bees that I Am Gone, so that I can watch the final season of Outlander when I’m done. So far I’m about 200 pages in.

And my girls and I have been playing board games in the evenings–Bridgerton Monopoly and a new one called Poetry for Neanderthals. Absolutely hysterical! I’ll explain it with pictures in another post tomorrow.

Yesterday was our big family outing to see Toy Story 5 and eat at one of our favorite restaurants down here, The Thai Room. The movie was fabulous–I totally recommend it for anyone who enjoys the franchise–and the food afterward was out of this world.

Today is our day at a local shopping center called Scarborough Fair, so my post tomorrow will include that outing too.

Hope you’re having a wonderful summer as well!

Until tomorrow…

COVER REVEAL: As Long As You’re Mine

At long last, I’m ready to reveal the cover to my very long awaited late Victorian historical romance, As Long As You’re Mine!

I am so excited for this book! The original was penned around 2012, but when other writing projects took precedent, this one got stuck on the back burner. Now, however, is its time to shine.

Pre-order As Long As You’re Mine on Amazon! Click HERE

My plan is to release it when I’m at BookLovers Con in Vegas at the end of March, but you never know–it might appear earlier or later, so keep a watch on my blog for updates!

Sneak Peek for Your Holiday Pleasure!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

I’m wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas for those who celebrate it, as well as Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanza, and generally wonderful holidays for everyone!

As a little present to all of my fans, below is a sneak peek at my current WIP–which I’ve been working on for almost a year, due to my unfortunate fall and broken shoulder. However, I am still chugging away at Gem of My Heart (book 5 of my Welwyn Marriage Wager series) and hope to have the whole book in to my editor by the end of February. My goal is to write at least a page a day with the further goal of a chapter a week which should have me finishing it right at the end of February, so cross your fingers!

This excerpt is from Chapter 1 and has not been edited yet, so bear with me on it. But I’d love to have your feedback on what you think of Francis and Gem!

EXCERPT:

The door burst open and Kitty rushed in. “Miss Gem, he’s just turned the corner from Rathbone Street. No carriage, but he’s striding so quick you’d think the devil was after him.”

“Thank you, Kitty. Now stir up the fire so the room won’t be chilly.” Gem rose and hurried to her dressing room, to the jar of vinegar-soaked sponges she kept in a jar. She unscrewed the silver lid, fished out a cup shaped sponge, and quickly inserted it between her legs. After a moment to make sure it was secure, she recapped the jar and sped back to her toilet table, seating herself and automatically pulling the robe down over her shoulders invitingly.

The sound of the front door opening sent a thrill of joy all through Gem’s body. She quite literally lived for the fleeting moments Francis spent with her. She would savor tonight’s rendezvous especially, as she did all their encounters now, for she had no idea how many more there might be.

His insistent tread on the stairs made her turn back to the mirror, applying one more tad of rouge as the footsteps stopped at the door. She continued to swirl the cream on her cheek, blending it until it looked like a natural blush, all too aware of his presence, but pretending ignorance of it.

Francis shifted his weight, and the slight movement made her turn from the mirror, her lips curling into a sincerely welcoming smile. “You are early, my love. I wasn’t expecting you until much later.”

“My brother decided to dally with his new wife so I thought I would take a page from his copy book and come here to you now.” Francis moved to stand behind her, then slipped his hands onto her shoulders and bent to kiss her neck, starting at the sensitive spot beneath her jaw.

As always, the touch of his lips anywhere on her body filled her with a happiness that heated her inside, deep at her core. The longing to be filled by him would have her panting soon enough. He kissed his way down her neck, leaving a blazing trail on her skin that stopped only when he encountered the impediment of her dressing gown.

“I wish you could have been with me at the wedding, Gem.” He nuzzled her neck, his hot breath making her toes curl in anticipation.

“You know that wasn’t possible, my love.” She arched her back and laid her head against his broad chest where it felt so good. Where she belonged.

“It would if you would just agree to marry me.” He parted her robe then continued to scatter kisses down onto her breasts.

“Francis, we have talked about this many times.” She frowned, not wishing to bring this contentious subject up while he was making love to her so sweetly. But she must remind him of his duty. “A man of your breeding marries a virtuous young lady who has family and position and wealth.”

He raised his head and her eyes met his.

“He does not marry his mistress.”

What did you think?

There’s a longer excerpt in my December 19th newsletter, so if you’d like more of this scene between Gem and Francis, why not sign up? The link is above–the picture of the period lady with a quill–which will take you to a sign-up form for my newsletter.

If you haven’t read The Welwyn Marriage Wager series, here’s your chance to catch up before gem releases! The first four books are on Amazon and in KU for your reading pleasure. The link to the series is HERE.

And again, have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

The Christmas Pact is on Sale All Month Long!

To start the holiday season off right, I’ve put my most recent Christmas romance on sale for the month of November. The Christmas Pact is a fun romance about two children who make a marriage pact one Christmas day and what happens when one of them wants to collect on that pact years later.

BLURB:

When Henrietta Price accidentally pummels a gentleman with a snowball, her instant mortification turns to delight when she discovers the young man is none other than her childhood best friend, Charlie. Though they haven’t seen each other in ten years, he still has the same vivid blue eyes, wicked laugh, and caring nature she remembers so well. Once he’d even vowed—at ten years old—to marry her, if necessary, to save her from a life of spinsterhood. And although she’s considering another man’s proposal, she can’t quite keep that long-ago promise out of her head…

Charlie Newkirk hasn’t stopped thinking about Hen since she stole a kiss from him all those years ago. Now he can scarcely believe the beautiful woman in front of him is the same girl whose braid he used to pull. Worse, he has no idea if she’s given her heart to the wealthy young marquess courting her or if she even remembers the promise he hopes to fulfill.
With their future happiness at stake, will Charlie be able to remind Henrietta of their Christmas pact and turn their childhood friendship into a newfound romance? Or will he forever remain just someone she used to know?

The Christmas Pact is available on Amazon for just .99 all this month. Go grab your copy and begin the season’s readings today!
