My Top Ten Highlights of 2011

On New Year’s Eve my family and I will be traveling home from Cape Cod.  It’s been a great vacation:  days spent with family, we went to see the new Sherlock Holmes movie (loved it) and found a great pizza place up here called Wicked that has gluten-free pizza.

But on the last day of the year I thought I’d leave you with a Top Ten list—kind of eclectic because it’s not any one things (books, authors, movies, etc)—but the Top Ten highlights of my 2011.

10.  Jenna’s Journal.  This blog, actually started in December 2010, has been my passion throughout 2011.  I’ve learned so much both from writing/researching posts and from all the feedback and advice regarding writing and blogging that it’s been one of the best writer’s educational tools at my disposal this year.  I get obsessive about it sometimes—I feel bad when I don’t blog every day, but if I do I may not have time to write anything else! LOL  Moderation may be one of my New Year’s Resolutions.

9.  Writer’s Retreat.  I attended my first Writer’s Retreat in June and would love to have one every weekend!  I got more writing done in four days than in most months.  It was sponsored by my local RWA chapter, so I got to know my fellow members better as well.  Except we really did spend most of our time writing.  Looking forward to going again in 2012.

8.  Outlander.  I was told repeatedly by a great writer friend to read this.  I finally got it for Christmas and have been captivated by it ever since.  I plan on reading it on the ride home tomorrow—might just finish it!  Great book!

7.  Breaking Dawn, Part 1.  It was a fantastic movie, but the reason it made my top ten list is that it continued my tradition of attending the midnight movie presentation with my two daughters.  We’ve been to every midnight premiere of the Twilight series since the original movie.  So it’s a bonding thing as well.  Truly a highlight of the year.

6.  Les Miserables.  One of my favorite musicals, attending the touring company production of Les Mise with one of my daughters was certainly a moving experience.  The story and above all the music is a romanticist’s dream.  Just thinking about the music gives me chills.  And inspiration.  I have a story to write inspired by one of the love sub-plots.  That gives me chills too.

5.   Self-Publishing All Wrapped Up.  I had toyed with the idea of self-publishing for much of the year and my foray into that world was overall a good experience.  It was not as difficult, technologically, as I anticipated and the sales, while not best seller status, were encouraging for a 16 page book of Christmas short stories.  And having the freedoms that self-publishing brings was rewarding as well.  I’m already planning a second venture.

4.  Heart of Deception and Hog Wild Published.  Having your first works published has to be a highlight in any author’s year.  My two short stories were released within days of each other and I could not have been prouder of them if I had published the Great American Novel.  The will always have a special place in my heart.

3.  Joining Romance Critters Online Critique Group.  Hands down the best thing I did in   2011.  I’ve received so much feedback from this group that has made me a better writer.  I’ve made great friends and crit partners, and as a support group to help me handle the ups and downs of being a writer, this group of writers cannot be beat.  They are totally unselfish with giving their time to help newbies and established authors.  My heartfelt thanks to you all, Rom Critters.  May your New Year be the best one yet!

2.  My 20th Wedding Anniversary.  This milestone speaks pretty much for itself.  Married for 20 years to the man who still challenges me to push beyond my self-imposed boundaries and who is proud to be the husband of a romance writer, I am looking forward to every year we spend together.  This anniversary was spent with a special friend of mine (another romance author) and her husband, which made the evening even more perfect.

1.  Only Scandal Will Do Accepted for Publication.  This should probably be my number two highlight, but having put almost two years into the writing, revision, querying and rejection of this manuscript, even my husband would agree that having Only Scandal Will Do accepted by Lyrical Press for publication was the top highlight of 2011 for me.  I’ve just received the cover art and am awaiting a release date (sometime in spring or summer 2012 I think) for the novel.  I can only hope 2012 brings me as much satisfaction with the actual publication of this work so close to my heart.

So that’s my Top Ten 2011 list of personal highlights.  I hope you’ll share some of yours with me.  And above all have a safe and Happy New Year.

And don’t forget to check out my Six Sentence Sunday offering tomorrow from Only Scandal Will Do!  New scenes for the new year.

Guest Blogger Liz Crowe: The Beauty of the Footie

Today I have the great pleasure of welcoming fellow Decadent Publishing author Liz Crowe to Jenna’s Journal.  Liz’s passion for soccer has manifested itself in several ways–including her newest release Caught Offside.

Football, the European variety, holds a very special fascination for me.  “Soccer” as we call it in the states was once described to me as “a game played by gentlemen, watched by hooligans” (the flip side being Rugby: A game played by hooligans and watched by gentlemen).

I don’t know about that (well, I do and I agree but for argument’s sake okay?) but I do know I think that soccer players are some of the most amazingly fit and in many cases downright gorgeous men in the athletic universe.  Look at it this way.  The game is 90 minutes long, with a fifteen minute break in between. There are NO breaks for commercials, ass scratching, third downs, 7th inning stretches or any other nonsense not directly related to the game.  If a player goes down (as Ramon does, in a big way in my new release “Caught Offside”) the clock will stop but that time is added back on at the end (“stoppage time” is one of my favorite phrases).

These guys have to be fit.  You would be if you ran up and down an enormous field for nearly 90 minutes straight trying to kick a ball into a goal, or keep it from happening at your end.  And they are.  It could be argued that they are the fittest overall of any professional athlete.

And it is truly unfortunate that the yanking off of one’s uni jersey when one scores a goal was declared a yellow-card-able foul. Criminal, really.

Ramon Castillo, hero of my new 1NightStand book from Decadent Publishing is at the top of his game.  A young stud both on and off the field, he’s risen quickly and is playing at the pinnacle of the sport: the World Cup, for the United State Men’s national team when a Dutch player (these guys play ROUGH) goes “cleats high” and destroys his knee and shin with a red card foul hit (“red card” in the World Cup puts you out of playing time for the rest of the tournament).  When the game you love is all you know, and it is taken from you with one vengeful act in front of millions of viewers, it would do a number on you emotionally.

Fans of the 1NightStand series will recognize the name “Castillo” of course.  Ramon is Jackson’s adopted cousin. Jackson paid for the bulk of the young man’s training in the early days and allows Ramon to spend the last part of his rehab in the resort in Vegas.  He also believes Ramon’s rep with the ladies is a lot of bunk.  The kid certainly scored his fair share but Jackson realizes he usually committed his heart to a string of women who wanted nothing more than “a piece of the spotlight” that followed Ramon around.

Jackson has a plan that involves his friend Gillian, catering manager at a competing casino resort. Turns out Gillian is an ex-player herself, a young widow with a son whose only dream in the world is to meet his hero, Ramon Castillo.  It takes a few wrong turns at first, but the two do meet on the pitch (“field”) then later for dinner.  The rest, as they say, is “magical.”

Ramon, for me, is a lovely combination of my favorite players in the world, Xabi Alonso, midfielder for Real Madrid (and the Spanish National Team) and Carlos Bocanegra, champion defender and captain of the current U.S. Men’s National Team.

Yummmmmmmy, no?

There is an amazing, Brit-based blog for people with my “problem.”

www.kickette.com  The blog for women who love soccer, and the men who play it. I’m a “gold medal” member.

Excerpt:

Ramon Castillo limped into the lobby of the MGM Grand Casino hotel, mind closed and dark with frustration. His leg ached from knee to ankle, although it had been a short walk down the Strip from his cousin’s resort where he’d been mending—and hiding—for the last three months. His jaw already clenched in irritation at his apparent inability to walk a few blocks without sitting down.

He eased himself onto the bench at the huge lion fountain, stretching the bum leg out beside him. He glanced up, brain fuzzy with pain. Managing to accomplish the usual blanket ignore of the human sea that ebbed and flowed around him, his eyes lit on a striking woman as she ripped the desk clerk a new asshole.

Dressed in a black pencil skirt and killer high heels, her auburn hair fell in waves halfway down the back of her crisp, cream blouse. She held a tablet computer in one arm and gestured wildly around with her other while the employee on the receiving end looked chastened. Ramon’s eyes traveled along the pleasant landscape of her curves, his hands gripping the bench’s edge with suppressed lust. He could almost feel the comfortable swell of her hip and ass under his palm. He tore his gaze away, shifting on the hard surface as his cock swelled under the loose training pants. He winced, conjuring Inge, the torturous bitch who pummeled him to keep his muscles from losing their tone.

When a hand gripped his bicep, he nearly fell backward into the fountain. A small voice yelped in his ear.

“Wow, is that really you? Mom! Mom! Hey, mom! Oh, my gosh, Mooooooom!”

The small, redheaded boy continued jumping up and down and screeching, his small hand clutching Ramon’s sleeve. His gut clenched at the sight of the boy’s shirt—a dark blue replica of his national soccer team jersey—and he’d be willing to bet the number seventeen adorned the back. He sighed, forcing away the nightmare memory of himself, lying on the pitch during the final game of the World Cup championship, his shin a white-hot center of utter agony. A compound fracture from a cleats-high, red-card foul had ended his career in a matter of seconds.

To his surprise, the woman who had provided him with the tent pole in his sweatpants appeared right in front of him, the toe of her black patent leather shoes tapping with impatience. He looked up, straight into a pair of the most beautiful deep green eyes he’d ever seen. But they weren’t happy to see him. She yanked the boy’s hand away and bent her knees to meet his eager face. He couldn’t help but grin as the kid kept staring, ignoring his mother in the way unique to small boys.

“Harrison Joseph Winter, leave the guests alone.” She gave him a nudge then finally gripped his chin and pulled his face to hers. “How many times….” She sighed when he wiggled out of her grasp and sat back down, short legs swinging.

When she drew up to her full height, the vision was stunning. He barely heard her speak at first, and had to consciously clamp his mouth shut. He hoped to hell he hadn’t drooled. The woman must be a former athlete of some sort. Easily six feet plus in four-inch heels, with a classically feminine shape, her toned legs, arms, and shoulders undisguised by the suit.

“I’m sorry, can you hear me?” He realized he’d been ignoring her as blatantly as the kid, who at that moment climbed up into his lap in excitement. He registered her tone as one usually reserved for small children or deaf uncles.

Bio:

Microbrewery owner, beer blogger and journalist, mom of three teenagers, and soccer fan, Liz lives in the great middle west, in a Major College Town.  Years of experience in sales and fund-raising, plus an eight-year stint as an ex-pat trailing spouse plus making her way in a world of men (i.e. the beer industry) has prepped her for life as erotic romance author.  When she isn’t sweating beer inventory, sales figures or promotional efforts for her latest publication, doing pounds of laundry for her sweaty athletic children, watching La Liga on the Fox Soccer Channel, or trying to figure out what to order in for dinner, she can be found walking her standard poodles or doing Bikram Yoga.  Liz loves her Foo Fighters Pandora station, and watching reruns of Deadwood, when there isn’t any decent European football on the telly.  If you want a beer education follow her: http://www.a2beerwench.com.  For writing related stuff, including her backlist, go to: www.brewingpassion.com.

She is the author of the critically acclaimed Turkish Delights trilogy from Decadent, also part of the 1NightStand series, and anticipates release of the prequel and follow-up novellas to the series in 2012.

She also wrote the Brewing Passion series for Breathless Press, which includes the “choose your own ending” romance novel “The Tap Room.”

Author photo includes Herself, in her beer bar, with her very own lovely soccer lads from Ann Arbor.

I want to thank Liz for bringing her soccer hunks to the Journal today. 🙂  Caught Offside sounds like a perfect blend of sports and romance that should score a winning goal with romance readers.  Congratulations on your release, Liz!

Unveiling: Cover Art for Only Scandal Will Do

On Christmas Day, much to my delight, I got the first draft of the cover for my Georgian romance novel Only Scandal Will Do, due out in the new year from Lyrical Press.  After it received some minor tweaking, I’ve received the finished product and been given the go-ahead to unveil!  I’ve been working on Scandal since the fall of 2009, so this is a very big step in the realization of my dream of publication for the book.  Take a look and tell me what you think!

Blurb for Only Scandal Will Do:

Scandal bought him the woman of his dreams; now he will pay any price to win her heart.

Lady Katarina Fitzwilliam—kidnapped, sold at auction in London’s notorious House of Pleasure—must pit her wits against the masked stranger who purchased her.  Although overwhelmed by her attraction to the man, Kat returns to her senses before he causes her utter ruin, bashes him over the head and escapes.

Duncan Ferrers, Marquess of Dalbury—rake and master swordsman—is one scandal away from social ruin when he discovers his latest romp has compromised a lady.  He seeks out the fiery Katarina, intending only to scotch the scandal and gain the wife he needs to carry on his family line.  Instead he finds his heart ensnared by the beauty who wields a sword as well as he.  Determined to marry her, Duncan uses desperate measures to convince Katarina that what began in scandal can become the marriage of her dreams.

I’m so excited to have this project moving forward!  I just finished my first round of edits and hope to get the next round in a month or so.  No release date set yet, but I’ll definitely let everyone know when there is one. 🙂

And a REMINDER:  I’ve got Liz Crowe on the Journal tomorrow talking about soccer and her new work Caught Offside.  Please come by and say Hello. 🙂

1st Official Review for Almost Perfect

I received two extra special Christmas presents this year, one on Christmas Eve and one on Christmas Day.

On Christmas Eve I received the 1st version of my cover for Only Scandal Will Do–my Georgian novel coming out this spring from Lyrical Press.  It is a fantastic cover, very sexy and evocative of the novel.  I’m hoping to be able to show it to you soon.

On Christmas Day I opened my email from Decadent Publishing to find a four heart review from Sizzling Hot Book Reviews for Almost Perfect!  According to their rating system, a four heart review means “Great!  Move it up your TBR pile.”  Talk about a Christmas present!

The link to the review is here, but I thought  it would be okay to quote a bit of it here:

“The storyline of Almost Perfect is cute with witty dialogue. You will enjoy all the twists to the traditional 1 Night Stand story. Madame Eve certainly has her own brand of magic and in this tale, things get out of hand!”

In addition, All Romance E-Books has given Almost Perfect a bestseller silver star and listed it in their Chick Lit Category in the Top 20 bestsellers this week and number 7 on its Top Rated list with four gold stars.

It’s certainly been a red-letter week for Almost Perfect!  Here are the buy links, if you’d like to indulge in a bit of after-Christmas shopping. 🙂  Decadent Publishing, All Romance E-Books, Amazon, Barnes & Noble.

Later this week I’m having Liz Crowe as a guest who will be talking about her love of soccer and her newest release Caught Offside.  Be sure to come on by and check it out!

A Few of My Favorite Christmas Things

Christmas is a time full of favorites:  traditions, songs, movies, candy, cookies, food, books.  The list goes on.  I thought for my Christmas post I’d share my Christmas favorites with you.

My favorite Christmas tradition is putting up a live Christmas tree each year.  Yep, no artificial tree for us.  Even though this year we’re going away for Christmas and not putting up a tree (for the first time ever), my husband bought a little live tree just so we’d have one.  This is the live tree from Christmas Vacation, a very big, very live tree. 🙂

Speaking of Christmas Vacation, that movie is on my top 5 list of favorite Christmas movies.  The list starts with a little known Christmas tale at no. 5.

5.  A Child’s Christmas in Wales— Beautiful little movie, based on the Dylan Thomas poem. Very nostalgic, which works well this time of the year.

4.  Christmas Vacation–just the funniest Christmas movie around.  The holidays with the Griswalds always brings a smile to my lips.  Break out the dry turkey and let’s watch it again.  This is my favorite scene, due to the placement of Beverly D’Angelo’s hand!

3.  How the Grinch Stole Christmas–classic that can still bring tears to my eyes.  I adore Max!  And my daughter has always reminded me of Cindy Lou Who.  Da Who Dores to all of you!

2.  White Christmas–another classic musical that will warm the cockles of your heart.  Bing Crosby singing White Christmas at the end with all the snow coming down–it doesn’t get much more Christmasy than this.

1.  My quirky no. one favorite Christmas movie is  Scrooge, a musical starring Albert Finney as Scrooge.  Wonderful songs, wonderful sets and costumes (Victorian London comes alive).  And the scene where Scrooge goes to Hell is my favorite.

My Christmas just isn’t right if I don’t hear Elvis singing “Santa Bring My Baby Back.”  I have to eat ham biscuits under the tree Christmas morning, followed by oyster stew.  I love rum balls (made with gluten-fee ingredients) and homemade fudge from my grandmother’s recipe.

And my favorite book set during Christmas is Jo Beverley’s Winter Fire, whose food fight is the most fun anyone should have had during the 18th century!

I’m signing off the blog for the holiday.  Going to celebrate with my family in a new location, making new traditions and keeping old ones.

May your holidays be filled with the wonder of a new beginning.

“Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”

The Longest Night of the Year

December 20 thru 23 is the time of the winter solstice, the beginning of winter, time for religious ceremonies of all kinds, and the longest night of the year.

Today I’m guest blogging on The Longest Night of the Year over at the Daily Dose of Decadence blog.  Come on over and visit before it gets dark!

Below is the winter solstice as seen at Newgrange–an ancient burrow in Ireland created to be lit only at the time of the summer and winter solstice.  I’ve actually visited there, though not at the solstice.

Six Sentence Sunday–12/18 An Almost Perfect Christmas

Once again it’s time for Six Sentence Sunday, the last one until next year.   Thank you to both first-time visitors and those who return each week.  I appreciate everyone stopping by.  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your families.  Have a safe holiday season.

The release of my erotic Contemporary Almost Perfect inspired me to write a flash fiction story about Pam and Roger’s first Christmas together.  In this snippet, Pam’s just insisted that Roger open one special present on Christmas Eve.

Roger snapped the tape on the lid and opened it.  His brows furrowed and the little lines around his eyes tightened as he said, “It’s empty.”

“I know, but that’s because what was inside is now in the other room all ready for you.”  The worry lines eased.  “Come on,” Pam said, coaxing him to his feet.  “I would never play a joke on you like that,” she said, putting her arms around him, holding tight.

If you’d like to read all of An Almost Perfect Christmas, check out my post for Dec. 16!  And please visit the other Six Sentence Sunday snippets.  You’ll be glad you did!

Have a great Sunday!  Merry Christmas!

Sweet Saturday Sample–12/17 An Almost Perfect Christmas

Merry Christmas from Jenna’s Journal for the last Sweet Saturday Sample of the year!  I signed up to do historical, but I thought I would instead give you a sample of the new flash fiction Christmas story I wrote for the Stuff Your Stockings Blog Hop.  It contains some old friends of yours:  Pam and Roger from Almost Perfect and is called An Almost Perfect Christmas.  I hope you enjoy!

Christmas Eve 2004

“Come on, Roger.  Christmas Eve is almost over.”  Pam sat in front of their small but full Christmas tree, digging through the pile of presents wrapped in festive paper.

“Be there in a second, babe.”  The hushed, absent-minded tone carried from the dining room where her husband sat at his computer, eyes glued to the screen as they had been all night.

“That’s what you said an hour ago,” she mumbled then seized the big square package she had been looking for.  “Now, Roger.  Or you’re going to be sorry!”  She added a playful lilt to the last word.  This was their first Christmas as a married couple.  It had to be perfect.

“I’m here.  I’m here.  Where’s the fire?”  Roger plopped his tall frame down next to her.

“Right here.”  She grabbed his face, pulling his lips onto hers.  Tingles shot down her arms—always did every time he kissed her.  He settled his arms around her, drew her closer.  His tongue thrust into her mouth, probing her with bold sweeps.  Pam moaned and clutched him, pressing against his chest until he toppled backward onto the carpet with her on top.

He disengaged long enough to say, “We should have started this in the bedroom.”

“Oh, we’re heading there.”  She ground her hips against his and was rewarded with a groan from above and hardness below.  “But you need to open a present first.”

“But it’s not Christmas yet.”  He ran his hands down her sides, under her jeans to cup her butt.  When he squeezed her cheeks, she squealed.  “You get to open one present on Christmas Eve and I’m telling you which one.”

If you’d like to find out which present Roger opens (and read the rest of the story) Scroll down to my previous  blog post for Stuff Your Stockings and enjoy!

Click here for more Sweet Samples.

Thanks so much for visiting Jenna’s Journal this year.  I wish you and yours a very Happy Holiday season.  See you in 2012!

And to all my readers, I am giving a little holiday story.  Below you will find An Almost Perfect Christmas.  This tale takes us back to the beginnings of Pam and Roger’s relationship, during their first Christmas together.  Merry Christmas and please enjoy!

An Almost Perfect Christmas

“Oh, we’re heading there.”  She ground her hips against his and was rewarded with a groan from above and from hardness below.  “But you need to open a present first.”

“But it’s not Christmas yet.”  He ran his hands down her sides, under her jeans to cup her butt.  When he squeezed her cheeks, she squealed.  “You get to open one present on Christmas Eve and I’m telling you which one.”

“Okay, but you’d better hurry.”  He stole another kiss.  “You’ve got Little Roger standing at full staff already.”

“Don’t worry.  He’s going to get all the attention he deserves tonight.”  She sat up and grabbed the present she’d pushed to the side.  “Here.”  Shoving it into his hand, she glanced toward the television.  “Oh, look!  This is my favorite part.”

Pam motioned to the screen where Bing Crosby in White Christmas crooned to Rosemary Clooney,  “…fall asleep, counting your blessings.”

“That’s so sweet and romantic.”

Roger grasped her chin and turned her head back toward him.  “I’m counting my blessings this Christmas for sure.”  His lips brushed hers, feather light, teasing her.  Promising more.

“Just open the damned present!”  Her voice came out husky with her growing desire.

He grabbed the gift, ripping off the red and white paper with one swipe.  “It’s awfully light.  What did you get me?”  He shook the container, listening for a sound.  “One of those new USB 2.0 High Speed Flash drives?  But in a big box to throw me off?”  His gray eyes shone with hope.

“Uhhh, no.  That’s not what this one is.”  She forced a smile.  He’d never said anything about a flash drive before.  Damn.  After Christmas sales here I come.

Roger snapped the tape on the lid and opened it.  His brows furrowed and little lines around his eyes tightened with strain.  “It’s empty.”

“I know.”  She smiled encouragingly at him.  “Because what was inside is now in the other room.”

“Then why—“

“’Cause it’s your present, and you had to unwrap something, but I wanted it…all ready for you.”  The worry lines eased.  “Come on.”  Pam stood then pulled him to his feet.  Had he thought she’d played a cruel joke on him?  “I would never do that.”

“Do what, babe?”

“Play a joke on you like that.”  She put her arms around him, holding tight.  “I love you, Roger.”

“I love you to, Pam.”  He leaned against her and his tension eased.  “So where’s this mystery present?”

“This way.”  She grabbed his hand and led him into the bedroom where candlelight flickered.  “There.”  Motioning to the bed, with the covers turned back, she glanced into his face to gauge his reaction.

He cut his eyes to her.  “The bed is new?”

“No!  The sheets, Roger, look at the sheets!  Feel the sheets!”  She dragged him over to the double bed, positioned in the center of the room, headboard against the outside wall.  He ran his hands over the glistening material.

“You got satin sheets?”

“Red satin sheets. Very old-style Hollywood.  And sexy.  Merry Christmas, Roger!  Wanna try them out?”  Pam had her top and bra off and jeans and panties around her ankles while he still fumbled with his buttons.  “Here, let me help, baby.”  She made short work of the shirt then shucked his pants off him in nothing flat.  After running her hand over his firm chest and down to grasp his still erect member, Pam gently pulled him to her.  “I want this to be a Christmas we’ll always remember.”  She released him and flung herself, spread-eagle, into the center of the bed.

And ended up on the far edge of the bed, her head hanging over the side.  She raised it to see a stunned Roger trying not to laugh.

“Can you do that again?”  His lips trembled, but he kept his composure.  “I want to savor that memory.”  He grabbed her ankles and slid her back toward him.

“That was not funny.”  She glared at him, but he simply chuckled and climbed up on the bed, on all fours over top of her.

“Let’s see if we can make the night memorable for something else too.”  His tongue traced the shell of her ear and she shivered in anticipation.  When his lips found her neck, nothing else mattered.  She giggled as he found the right spot halfway down that gave her goose bumps.

“Damn,” he growled, shifting his weight.

“What’s wrong?”

“I keep sliding.”

“Oh.  Well, maybe if you—“

“No, I’ve got it handled.”

He swept her legs open wide with his knees and gave one hard thrust.

There was a sensation of flight then Pam’s shoulder crashed into the wall.  She shook her head, staring up at the ceiling from an odd angle on the floor.  Roger’s face appeared over the edge of the bed, eyes wide, mouth a perfect ‘O.’  “Are you okay?” he whispered.

Pam took a breath, glad to find she could breathe, and nodded.

“I’m so sorry.  I never thought it would do that.  I mean, we never had a problem before…” His face disappeared and Pam heard choking sobs that quickly turned into outright laughter.

“If it wasn’t Christmas Day, Roger, you would pay for that.”  Obviously chivalry was not her husband’s strong suit.  Where was Arthur from Camelot when you needed him?

“I’m s…s…sorry.”  He could barely get the words out between sniggers.

“No, you’re not.  Come help me up.”  He slid off the bed and picked her up, cradling her against his chest.

“Are you okay?  Really?”  His voice had sobered.

“Yes.”  She snuggled against his warmth.  “Maybe bruised, but intact.  And still horny.”

His arms tightened and his lips brushed the top of her head.  “I think we can take care of that.”  He headed back into the living room where Bing Crosby now sang White Christmas.  Roger lay them down in front of the tree, the blinking lights casting twinkles of blue, red and green over their naked bodies.  His gaze raked her with a hunger she had never glimpsed in him before. “Do you think under the Christmas tree will be memorable enough?”

Pam pulled him down to her, close enough to whisper, “Perfect.” He sealed her mouth with his as Bing warbled,  “And may all your Christmases be ….”

Ahhhhh.
