Bad to the Bone

My first erotic contemporary, Hog Wild, is a fractured re-telling of the Three Little Pigs fairy story.  In it I turn the Big Bad Wolf into a she-wolf–Lula Wolfendale who’s looking for satisfaction in all the wrong places.  She’s on a mission to reach a Harley Rally and starts stealing motorcycles to get there.  The three little pigs are now HOGs–Harley Owners Group members.  Still written as brothers, these characters, the Hogues (Beau, Rob and Jesse) are big, bad bikers.

I began with the idea that these characters were no-nonsense, bad to the bone motorcyclists.  But why does that image persist?  My hubby rides a Harley (he was my technical assistant for the story 🙂 ) but he’s not…well, okay, he is big, but he’s not a bad ass! LOL  But a lot of people still think of bikers as “bad boys.”  Where does that image come from?

Probably most of it comes from an early association with the motorcycle group Hell’s Angels.  The organization, begun in 1948, gained the reputation of having ties to organized crime and has been linked to violence throughout their more than 60 year existence. Their bike of choice is a Harley-Davidson.  A recent (2007) incident in New York City led to a raid on their NYC headquarters according to Randy James in an article on the history of the Hell’s Angels.  The organization disputes their reputation for violence, though “members still refer to themselves as “one percenters” — a half-century-old boast playing off the saying that 1% of troublemakers give a bad name to 99% of respectable bikers.”

The Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) is a completely different organization, although they may also have had a hand in giving motorcyclists their “bad boy” reputations.  This organization was actually begun as a marketing effort on behalf of Harley-Davidson motorcyclists and dealers.  The group advocates responsible motorcycling activities as well and is the official riding club of Harley-Davidson, according to their official website.  However, HOG members do have some similarities with the Hell’s Angels group.  Both prefer to ride Harley-Davidson motorcycles.  Both dress in leather jackets and jeans (granted this is a form of protective clothing), and both sport logos that are prominently displayed on their jackets and other paraphernalia.

The similarities are superficial, granted, but the iconic biker jacket and boots, with the help of Hollywood movies such as The Wild One starring Marlon Brando or Easy Rider starring Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda, seduced viewers with the image of men who were untamed or searching for freedom.

So I took the idea of the Three Little Pigs and fractured it to transform the wolf into an insatiable woman and the pigs into HOGs (motorcycle enthusiasts).  My brothers are “bad to the bone,” (that’s the ringtone for one brother!) and all get a shot at “taming” the wolf, though only one is “bad” enough to succeed.

Brother #1 is Beau who is in love with his Harley Panhead Bobber, circa 1955.  He’s been working on it forever, but he loves his bike more than…well…just about anything but a beautiful, sexy woman.

There’s Beau above and his Panhead to the right.  Can Lula come between him and his love?

Then there’s old blue-eyes.  Rob Hogue has the reputation for being a bad-ass.  He’s also a fanatic about his Harley–a black sportster that he takes scrupulous care of…  Until Lula comes to town.

Now will Rob need to choose between his sportster and the sexiest ride of his life?  Can he keep Lula and his motorcycle?

Here’s Rob’s Ride

And last but certainly not least, Jesse.  The cool one, who is ready to tame she-wolf Lula at the blink of a gorgeous, deep blue eye.  Lula had better watch out.  This Hogue can’t be fooled.  He’s ready for any trick she might come up with and just itching to satisfy her and himself.  Can he steal her heart before she steals his ride?  This fantastic cobalt-blue Phantom is Lula’s dream ride.  Too bad she’s got to go through Jesse to get to it!

So these are my bad boys and the woman who’s just as badass as they are.

And last, but not least, Lula Wolfendale, come to town in search of a ride, in several senses of the word!  She’s headed to a big HOG rally and needs transportation.  But she gets more than she bargained with the Hogue brothers!  Better watch out, Lula.  The biggest brother might just blow you down!

Hope you take a peek at Hog Wild, see if my bikers are wild and free enough.  There might be just a bit of Hell in my Hog Heaven!

Guest Blogger: Christine Warner With Her New Release

I’m so excited to have debut author Christine Warner with me today on Jenna’s Journal to talk about her brand new release Some Like It In Handcuffs.  Now, now.  It’s not what you (or I) might think. LOL  Christine’s book is romantic suspense–the handcuffs are for police business I’d bet.  Nothing more. 🙂

Tell us a little bit about your new release with the intriguing title.

Some Like it in Handcuffs is the story Sunny Kennedy who a private investigator.  She’s inexperienced in her profession and in matters of the heart.  Judson Blackwolf is a seasoned detective who is leery about getting involved with the sexy daughter of his captain.  Together they learn they have to overcome their differences and prejudices against each other to solve a cold case, and manage it all while they control their growing attraction.

What was your inspiration for this story?

Each book I write comes to me in a different way.   Some Like it in Handcuffs actually started off with the title.  It popped into my head and from that characters and plot lines formed.  I fell in love with Sunny and Judson and the entire Kennedy family while writing their story and from there I planned on writing a story for each one of Sunny’s brothers. J

I am a fanatic about my character names. Are the character names in Some Like It In Handcuffs special in any way?

I love choosing character names.  Sunny just seemed to fit the heroine’s personality as I was working out the plot in my head.  As for the name Judson…there’s a bit of a story.  I was working in the ER of a large hospital when I started working on Some Like it in Handcuffs and one night a patient came in named Judson and I had never heard the name before.  I liked it.  Rugged, solid and strong…so the name seemed perfect for my hero J

What was your process for writing Some Like It In Handcuffs?  Is this different or the same as other books you’ve written?

Every story I write begins in a different process.  Since Some Like it in Handcuffs was my first story I didn’t really plot or outline anything.  I just let the story roll around in my mind and then started to write.  Not very recommended, at least for me J  I find that I need a little bit of an outline to work from.  I don’t consider myself a plotter or a pantser, more like I have one leg in and one leg out.  Sometimes I work with just a quickie outline and if I end up stumped somewhere in the midst of writing I will outline per chapter.  Doing that usually gets me through any rough spots.

I have outlined some stories in more depth than others.  It al depends.  LOL  How’s that for a definite answer?

You mentioned that you have plans to turn Some Like It In Handcuffs into a series.  How is work on that coming along?

I’m almost finished with the second book titled Some Like it on the Run.  I plan to write a story about each of Sunny’s four brothers.  So there will be a total of 5 books .  The stories are each plotted out and titled, now I just need the time J.

Who is your favorite romance hero or heroine and why?  What qualities do they possess that make them memorable?

I can’t pick just one.  I generally like a strong hero that is tall, dark and handsome who has a spark of humor or playfulness.  I like my heroines to be smart and sassy.  A woman willing to speak her mind and show confidence, even when she isn’t quite sure deep down.

What was the first romance author and book you read?

I don’t know if I can remember the exact title of the first romance I read.  My sister and I lived next door to 2 sisters and we all used to read Harlequin romances and trade them.  I do remember buying my first Harlequin titled Flamingo Moon and I think I read it at least 10 times.  LOL.  I think that was the first romance I spent my allowance on.

The fun part about all of that trading was that we used to sprawl out on the trampoline in the backyard until there was no sun left in the sky, reading passages to each other.  LOL…too funny!

Who has been the greatest influence on your writing?

I love reading and have several authors I enjoy, and I couldn’t pick just one.  So I’m not going to try to say any one in particular influenced me.  But I will say that my sister has influenced me with her support and all of my cp’s have also been encouraging and influential J.

If you could have one wish granted just for you (not world peace, LOL), what would you wish for?

World…oh, sorry.  Lol.  That just comes automatically to my lips.  Let’s see, one wish just for me…so I can be totally selfish and greedy.  Okay, I’m going for it.  There is this awesome red stove that is influenced in style by the large stoves for the 1950’s.  I would love to splurge and buy that awesome stove with the 2 ovens and 8 gas burners.  I think I’d rope it off in my kitchen so nobody could use it and I could just dust it.  LOL

What is the most exciting/daredevil thing you’ve ever done?

I’m deathly afraid of heights.  As in I break out in a sweat, my legs and arms go numb, I can hardly breathe and I’ll get dizzy.  So what does my hubs do for me one year as a birthday gift?  He buys me a glider ride.  LOL.  I went, and it was pretty cool.  We flew over our house and all around the town.  I think we were up in the air for 45 minutes.  I struggled at first and had to keep my eyes closed until I could calm myself down, then I’d look out the window for a while and when I started to panic again I just closed my eyes and talked with the pilot.

Now, Just for Fun:

What is your favorite amusement park ride?

I actually prefer to play the games, but when the kids were small I loved the merry-go-round.  Sorry, not a big ride person J

Tea or coffee?

I like both, but I prefer my tea iced and my coffee hot J

French manicure or color (an if color, what color)?

I’m so bad, I am not a nail polish girl.  My nails are cut short because I type a lot and it’s just easier, so I don’t bother doing them up J.

Beach or mountains?

Tough question!  I love the privacy of the mountains though, so that would be my first choice.

Dominant or Submissive? (Well, it is called Some Like It In Handcuffs! LOL)

LOL…Some Like it in Handcuffs is a light-hearted romantic suspense with humorous elements…so I guess I gotcha there J.  As far as Dominant or Submissive….that would depend on my mood *wink*

Here’s the blurb for Some Like it in Handcuffs:

Sunny Kennedy, the only female in a family of blue blood male detectives, is determined to prove testosterone isn’t the only qualification required to solve a cold case. Handcuffed while undercover then taken to the precinct by an attractive detective, her domineering family demands she work with Detective Judson Blackwolf, or she’s off the case.

Judson Blackwolf thinks women in law enforcement should work behind the scenes. The prospect of working with his Captain’s sexy daughter doesn’t thrill him. He only agrees in hopes of solving the murder of his one time mentor’s daughter. Once the case is over, he’s moving to Montana to heal his wounds from the loss of his last partner.

But when their investigation takes a dangerous turn, Sunny and Jud soon realize their feelings for each other cannot be denied.

Excerpt:

Judson soaked in her appearance, but controlled his grin. A pair of baggy sweatpants and a stretched out blue sweatshirt which matched the color of her eyes looked sexy as hell on Sunny. She’d pulled her hair into a pony tail and her small feet were hidden in a pair of girlish, fluffy, pink slippers. With her tomboyish ways, he never considered she’d own anything girly, fluffy, and especially pink.

The black framed glasses perched on the tip of her nose almost caused him to come undone. He didn’t usually go for the brainy look, but the whole effect had him rethink his prejudice. Nerdy looked great from this view.

He looked around her small, homey apartment.  Antique wooden tables accented the array of bright colored leather furniture. Neon red, green, yellow and blue leather filled the room. Somehow the quirky furnishings matched her personality, and the way she’d arranged the old and new pieces brought the room together nicely. Pictures of her family were visible on every available surface, and unexpected piles of romance novels covered a corner of the floor to his right. He smiled at the discovery. He’d have guessed she’d be more interested in true crime or mysteries.

He cleared his throat. “Nice place.”

“I like it.”

The way she slid her heart-shaped pendant back and forth along the chain of her necklace betrayed her agitation. She hid her gaze beneath the fluttery fan of her lashes.

“Surprised to see me?” He waited until she’d taken a seat on the yellow sofa before he claimed a spot on the red chair across from her.

“You could say that. I hoped you’d drop it and leave me to work alone.” The smile on her lips didn’t reach her eyes. “Your tough skin must’ve deflected the message I sent through my powers of mental telepathy.”

He laughed outright before he could stop himself. Her outspoken sense of humor and girl-next- door-look were a lethal combination since she was off-limits. Only an idiot would mess with the boss’s daughter.

Hog Heaven for Horny Hump Day 3/28/12

WARNING:  MATERIAL NOT SUITABLE FOR THOSE UNDER THE AGE OF 18!

NOT SAFE FOR WORK!

I’m winding up my hot snippets from my erotic fractured fairy tale Hog Wild.   We’re heading for Hog Nirvana with Lula and Jesse in the home stretch.

Participating authors post three sentences from their published works or WIP, hot enough to singe your bikinis! Or at least I’m trying to! LOL

Seducing bikers Beau and Rob Hogue and commandeering their Harleys is easy for Lula Wolfendale; finding sexual satisfaction isn’t.  Can their older brother Jesse fill the bill? In a sexual contest for his Phantom motorcycle, will Lula emerge with a bike to die for or the climax of her dreams?

More of Jesse for this final week:  In this nibble,  Jesse continues to take charge in a big way: he’s placed Lula on top of his Phantom while he awaits her on the seat–a good part of him is stretched along the length of the seat, that is. LOL  Enjoy!

Her perch, while intensely erotic, was precarious, but his throbbing erection—a lovely sight from the top of the Phantom—won out. She braced herself on Jesse’s arms, dropped her feet, and immediately he began to lower her, sliding her down the arc of the tank toward his waiting cock.

“Guide me home, Lula.”

Jesse’s got a plan to tame this wild she-wolf!  And I think she’s ready for him. LOL

If you like what you read and want to find out the end, go snag a copy at Amazon in celebration of Hump Day (very apropos).  There’s even a fantastic new review of it over at A Whole Latte Romance.  Click the link to take you there Wednesday morning.

What I’m Reading–Quincy’s Woman by Gem Sivad

A new start to the week and a new read for me.  I began Quincy’s Woman over the weekend after finishing Love’s Prophecy (sigh) late Friday night.  So I’m not very far along in this western historical, but I must say I’m enjoying myself thoroughly.

I got this book for Christmas and am only now getting to read it–got sucked into the Outlander series and didn’t come up for air for almost three months.  But I wanted to explore all the other delicious novels I’d gotten in my Kindle stocking, so I’m taking a break from Jamie (hard to do, but I’ll survive LOL).

I know Gem Sivad’s work from reading her snippets on Six Sentence Sunday and was avidly following the sequel to this book, Perfect Strangers, on that hop and loved it.  But I wanted to start at the beginning and boy am I glad I did!  As I said, I’m not very far in yet, but even that short an acquaintance with the characters has me contemplating reading rather than writing.

What’s drawn me to Gem’s writing all along is her voice.  In all the snippets from her different books, her voice has been a constant–a combination of tell-it-like-it-is (with an intensity that makes you grip your e-reader or mouse) and a perkiness (not sure how else to describe it) that simply sucks me into the story.  Very frustrating when you crave more than six sentences or when you have to choose between reading and sleeping. 🙂

One other thing that I now love about Quincy’s Woman is the first love scene in the novel.  It is truly written as a first time experience might actually have occurred in the time period between two people of vastly different experiences.  It wasn’t sugar-coated, it wasn’t gritty, it was simply very real.  Which was wonderful.

That’s about all I can tell you right now about Quincy’s Woman.  I’m enjoying it thoroughly, looking forward to opening my Kindle each night, and even now looking ahead to the sequel because the characters have already engaged me.  At the rate I’m going, I’ll be done by the end of the week, so next Monday I’ll give you the final word on this book and a heads-up on what I’m reading next.

If you’d like to read more about Quincy’s Woman and other titles by Gem Sivad, here’s the link to her website, Gem Sivad:  Author and Dream Catcher.  Enjoy!

Six Sentence Sunday–3/25 Only Scandal Will Do

Welcome back to Six Sentence Sunday!  Thanks once again to everyone for your great support each week.  I do appreciate your comments, so keep them coming.  I also look forward to visiting your sites and reading your wonderful snippets.

Today I’m continuing with another six sentences  from Only Scandal Will Do.  If you want to read the section just before this snippet, check out my post from yesterday.

The masked man has purchased a woman in a brothel auction and has come to claim his prize.  His “slave” however, continues to insist there has been a mistake.  He has managed to turn the tables on the “lady” and call her virtue into question.  While evading the man’s advances, they discover a missing bit of vital information that seems turn the tide of his opinion of her.

“You are distraught, my lady. Please allow me to come to your aid.” He brought her hands to rest on the soft black cloak that disguised the solid expanse of his chest. Concern and respect in the voice that so recently mocked and insulted broke through Katarina’s crumbling defenses. Ready to drop from weariness, she could not reclaim the strength leached away by the excitements of the night. And his chest was strong and so incredibly warm under her palms that Kat sighed as his heat stole into her body, relaxing the muscles in her hands and arms inch by inch.

It sounds like he’s ready to step up to the plate and become a real hero to a damsel in distress.  What do you think?

If you’d like to read more about Kat’s plight, check out my posts from January at Sweet Saturday Sample and February here at SSS.  Be sure to come back next week for another six sentence installment.

Thanks once more for visiting Six Sentence Sunday.  Click the SSS to try out more author snippets.  You’ll be glad you did!

Sweet Saturday Sample–3/17 Only Scandal Will Do

Welcome back to Sweet Saturday Sample!  All excerpts here are rated PG-13 or milder. Today I’m posting once more from my soon to be released historical romance Only Scandal Will Do, set in Georgian London.

If you’ve been following on Sweet Saturday Sample, you know that Lady Katarina Fitzwilliam has been kidnapped and sold to a masked man in a London brothel.  She’s been trying to explain her circumstances, but the arrogant man hasn’t been receptive to reason.  Here’s the next section after last week’s six in which the man gets more info that may change his mind. :

“Jack?” The man’s eyes gleamed. “But surely Manning’s name is William Fitzwilliam.”

Katarina stopped. “Uncle William? You knew Uncle William?”

“Knew him?”

“He died in August last year.” Hope stole through her. He didn’t know about Uncle William. That was why he didn’t believe her. “My father, Colonel Robert Fitzwilliam, his younger brother, inherited the title. We lived in Virginia all our lives but were planning to remove to London when my father died unexpectedly in October, leaving my brother John the earldom. After several months of settling our affairs and a horrific crossing, we finally arrived in England four weeks ago.”

“Oh, my dear, I am so sorry. How dreadful for you.” At the soothing words, laced with sympathy, Katarina sagged with relief. At last, he believed her.

He grasped her hand, and the warmth of his skin dispelled the chill in her fingers. His thumb stroked over the top of her knuckles, kneading the skin with soothing circular motions, an exquisite treat for her misused flesh. “You must have been devastated, my lady.”

Kat stared at their intertwined hands, lost in the velvety sensation of his touch. Now she raised her eyes to his, only to realize his head still bent over their hands as he concentrated on each small, comforting movement.

“I was.” The confession popped out, drawn by his compassionate caresses. “I still miss my father dreadfully.” Kat shook her head, blinking back tears she had no intention of shedding. She tried to withdraw her hand, to distance herself from him and the painful memories that weakened her ability to think clearly. But he tightened his grip and snared the other hand as well.

Hope you enjoyed this little excerpt.  Stop by SSS tomorrow for another  little snippet.  And today be sure to click here to visit more Sweet Samples.

Major Interview: Casea Major And Her Night With A Dom

I am extraordinarily pleased to welcome Casea Major to Jenna’s Journal today, with my very first author interview. I’ve featured Casea’s other works here, but never got to ask her some of the questions I think readers and writers would like to know the answers to.

First, I want to thank you for coming here today Casea.  Always a pleasure to have you or your work on the blog.  First, please tell us a little bit about your soon-to-be released work, Night With A Dom.

I came up with the idea for this 1Night Stand story while watching football one Sunday afternoon in late fall. I wondered what kind of catalyst would propel someone into experimenting with their darker sexual desires. What would cause someone to take a small step out of their comfort zone to seek fulfillment for a craving they’d never satisfied. That is how Night with a Dom was born.

A small step, you say?  Hmmm.  Sounds like a giant step if you ask me. 🙂  What was your inspiration for the story?

My main inspiration was Mad Men and specifically, the smooth-as-50-year-old scotch Don Draper.

I’ve seen trailers for the series and if he’s that tall, suave, hot as three hells guy in the commercials, I understand how he could inspire you.

I’m a writer to whom names of characters have always held a special significance.  In your last 1NS, One Knight in Brooklyn, your hero and heroine had names suggestive of the Robin Hood legend. Are the character names in Night With A Dom special?

The names in this story are significant in a couple of ways. Dominic is the Dom in the story but also all the characters last names have something significant in common and I’m giving away a prize for anyone who buys the book and can email me with the correct answer.

Oooh, now that’s the kind of challenge I love!  I’ll be downloading Dom ASAP!

Now for a couple of questions about your writing process.  Do you write multiple stories at one time, or do you need to finish one before moving on to the next?

I usually focus on one story at a time but I always have several in various stages.

Who has been the greatest influence on your writing?   My critique partners.

What was the first romance author and book you read?  Victoria Holt, she was the greatest.

Now this question is sort of a cheat on my part because I already know the answer.  But your readers might not.  Who is your favorite romance hero and heroine (don’t have to be a couple) and why?  What qualities do they possess that make them memorable?

Yes, Jenna, you know the answer to this question because we’ve talked about it before. Jamie Fraser of the Outlander Series is literary perfection. I aspire to write such a hero. What makes Jamie memorable? His words/actions. The descriptions of him make him so real. I honestly believe if I saw him walking down the street I would recognize him. That’s how vividly he is written.

If you could have one wish granted just for you (not world peace, LOL), what would you wish for? Lifelong health for me and my family.

What is the most exciting/daredevil thing you’ve ever done? Queried agents.

LOL, Casea.  I think I have to agree with you there. Querying agents makes skydiving seem tame.

Now a few questions just for fun:

What is your favorite amusement park ride?  Pirates of the Caribbean

Tea or coffee? Both, depends on the day. Tea has been a part of my life forever and I began drinking coffee as a young teen—I like it black.

French manicure or color (and if color, what color)? French on my fingers and bright fusica or purple on my toes

Beach or mountains? Beach

Summer, Spring, Winter, or Fall? Spring

Dominant or Submissive? (Well, it is called Night With A Dom!) Switch

Oooh, now that’s hardly fair, though I bet it’s fun. LOL

Casea has sent along a blurb for Night With A Dom and has told me that one lucky commenter on today’s post will win a copy of her wonderful erotic romantic comedy One Knight in Brooklyn.

Blurb:

Melody Manning’s workaholic ambition, coupled with a slave-driving former boss, has made her the youngest market analyst in her firm. It’s also killed her personal life, including losing her fiancé. When she receives a message from him on New Year’s Eve announcing his engagement to another woman, Mel loses it. Her new, more compassionate boss has the perfect solution for her—get laid. Good and laid.

At his suggestion, she signs up with the 1Night Stand service, listing her deepest sexual desires on the application.  A speedy response from Madame Eve has Melody on her way to Sonoma Valley wine country and a one-night stand with a mysterious Dom.

The sexy, masked Master promises to get to the bottom of her guilt and provide ultimate satisfaction under the safety of his stern hand. After an emotional night of submission and uninhibited passion, will her lover’s unmasking lead to the end of their encounter or give Mel another chance at love?

Major Love ~~~ Major Romance

Prior to becoming a writer of romantic fiction, Casea Major worked in the legal field for a non-profit dispute resolution company for ten years.  She is now a full-time mom to three preschool children with whom she and her husband live happily…most of the time.  When she isn’t chained to her laptop, she enjoys Cary Grant movies and crocheting.

Website / Facebook / Twitter

Thank you so much for being my guest on Jenna’s Journal today, Casea.  Best of luck on your release and readers, take my advice:  take this Dom home tonight!

More Hog Wild Horniness in Horny Hump Day 3/21/12

WARNING:  MATERIAL NOT SUITABLE FOR THOSE UNDER THE AGE OF 18!

NOT SAFE FOR WORK!

I’m continuing to feature some hot snippets from my erotic fractured fairy tale Hog Wild.   The original Three Little Pigs  never had a Horny Hump Day like this before!  Participating authors post three sentences from their published works or WIP, hot enough to boil the water in your water cooler! Or at least I’m trying! LOL

Please read on and if you like what you read, go snag a copy at Amazon in celebration of Hump Day (very apropos).

More of Jesse this week:  Jesse is the Mecca Lula has been heading for all day–him and his cobalt-blue Phantom motorcycle.  But she hasn’t reckoned with a hog of a different color.  In this nibble,  Jesse continues to take charge in a big way:

Jesse’s mouth abandoned her, and Lula opened her eyes in time to see him grab a pocketknife from the coffee table. He flicked it open and poked the tip under the edge of her tube top, the chill of the blade against her skin raising goose bumps.  She held her breath as the knife snicked forward, parting the fabric with a soft ripping sound, then the blade hit the floor and he urged his tongue to continue its journey across her breasts, licking the nipples, biting, sucking first one then the other, until she frantically pushed him lower.

Jesse’s got a wild streak in him I think!  Lula may very well have met her match. LOL

Meanwhile, have a Happy Horny Hump Day of your own!  Oh, and be sure to leave a comment and let me know if I need to ratchet up the heat level!  I love to read your comments. 🙂

From My TBR List: What I’m Reading Now~Love’s Prophecy

Last year I did a series of formal reviews, which I enjoyed doing.  This year I wanted to be a little more informal, but still let people know what’s going on with my TBR list.

What I came up with is that Mondays are now devoted to a short post spotlighting what I’m currently reading.  Just FYI, though please let me know in comments if you’ve read the book and whether you liked it.  Or if you happen to be reading it too, where you are and what you think.

So what I’m reading now is Brenda Dyer’s paranormal romance Love’s Prophecy (with a hot cover).

I’ve been wanting to read this book for quite some time.  I’d critted it briefly on my critique loop and that only whetted my appetite.  Brenda’s created a world where vampires protect humans secretly, hunting demons who would destroy them.  It’s also the love story of a vampire and a human who fall in love and have to come to terms with the problems that entails.  Almost a metaphor for people who fall in love and have some kind of insurmountable difference (race, creed, color, religion) that threatens to tear them from one another.

Her vampires are sexy as the night is long:  Mel is tall, all muscle, with long black hair and silver-gray eyes.  He and Breeana share a bond from the moment they meet and their passion explodes right off the page…er Kindle time and time again.

I’m at the point now where Breeana knows about the Prophecy but because of what it would require her to do, wants no part of it, even if it means a death sentence to the world. She and Mel have made a very hard decision to part, because due to the longevity of vampires, Mel will outlive her by hundreds of years and she doesn’t want to put him through the pain of her growing old and dying.

I usually read at night, just before bed, and for several nights I’ve had to make myself put the Kindle down at 2 or 3am and force myself to go to sleep so I could get up and go to work the next morning.  Didn’t want to, but had to.  It’s that good a read.

I’m so looking forward to my chapters tonight!  Great job, Brenda!  Keep those books coming!

Let me know if you’ve read Love’s Prophecy and what you thought.  I give it a thumbs up, especially if you love paranormals or vampires or hot sex scenes.  It’s got them all. 🙂
