As we give thanks for all our blessings over the past year, I wish for you the joy of the holiday season and a happy and healthy Thanksgiving Day.

Happy Thanksgiving!
Can we really be half-way through November?!!! I can hardly believe it!
This week I’m continuing snippets from my upcoming historical romance, The Widow Wore Plaid. It’s the sixth and final book of The Widows’ Club series and I’m truly very excited to share it with you.

BLURB:
The Battle of Waterloo made them widows, but each has found new happiness. And Jane, Lady John Tarkington, intends to keep her freedom, even if love—and one particular gentleman—are determined to claim her heart . . .
It is a truth rarely acknowledged—at least in public—that a wealthy widow is free to pursue a great many adventures. For two years, Jane has privately enjoyed her independence. Why should she remarry, even when the gentleman proposing is as wonderful as Gareth, Lord Kinellan? She entreats him never to ask her again. But as her Widows’ Club friends—now all joyfully remarried—gather at Castle Kinellan, Jane begins to wonder if stubbornness has led her to make a terrible mistake . . .
Kinellan needs a wife to give him an heir, and he wants that wife to be Jane. They are perfect together in every way, yet she continually refuses him. Just as he is on the point of convincing her, a series of accidents befall Gareth and point to an enemy in their midst. He has promised Jane a passionate future filled with devotion, but can he keep them both alive long enough to secure it?
I’m starting my snippets toward the end of Chapter 2. Gareth, Marquess of Kinellan has just finished dancing with Jane, Lady John Tarkington, with whom his is deeply in love. Jane loves him as well, but is wary of giving up the independence of widowhood, even for this man she loves. As the snippet begins, they have just finished a fast-paced Scottish dance.
“What is the meaning of this intrusion, Rory?” Kinellan’s jaw creaked as he spoke.
“Begging your pardon, cousin,” a sheepish look on his face, the dark-haired young man, not long ago a boy, glanced from Kinellan to Jane, “Aunt Prudence sent me to find you. She says she must speak with you on a matter of utmost importance this moment. What must I tell her?”
Kinellan drew in a long breath and expelled it slowly. “Thank you, Rory, tell Aunt Pru I’ll be there directly.”
The lad bowed and backed away, perhaps afraid Kinellan would attack him if given the chance.
Kinellan stood and held out his hand to Jane. “Duty calls yet again, my dear, so perhaps we can resume this conversation later.”
He raised his eyebrows. “After the household has settled for the night?”
On the tip of her tongue to plead a headache or her courses, Jane looked into his dear face and could not refuse him. “I’ll be waiting.”
He offered his arm and she took it, trying not to tremble. In all likelihood this would be their last tryst. As soon as the throes of passion had been spent—their final interlude perhaps—he would continue with the words he had been about to speak just now, telling her he would not be renewing his addresses and that it would be best for all if she left with the other guests when the gathering was over in two days’ time.
They continued slowly into the castle, each step a death knell to Jane unless she could convince herself in the next few hours that this man was the one for whom she would sacrifice everything. And pray he would propose again.

Laughing, Jane allowed herself to be pulled into the corridor and led through narrow passageways until Kinellan pushed open a door and suddenly there was cool air and moonlight. They emerged into the quietness of the formal garden, Jane still gasping for air. He led her to a crescent-shaped stone bench and assisted her to sit.
“Can I speak with you for a moment?”
His words would have thrilled her had his tone not filled her with apprehension. The serious note in it made her clutch the sapphire pendant at her throat. Dear Lord, what was he about to say? Would he ask her to marry him once more, breaking his vow not to do so, or would he ask her to leave the castle? Gathering her strength, she took his hand and tried to smile. “What is it, Kinellan?”
“Jane, I have tried to abide by your wishes as you asked me to do in May. I have not renewed my offer to you, in the hope that through my deeds you would see my sincere appreciation for you as both a woman and a partner.” His voice was gentle, soothing. Lethal. “I had hoped you would indicate to me in some manner that you were ready to allow me once again to pay my addresses to you, but I have seen nothing to offer me hope that such a change of heart has occurred.”
Mouth dry, throat as though she’d poured sand down it, Jane could only sputter, shaking her head to stop the words before he ended their association for all time.
“Jane, I think it best if—”
“My lord.”
They both jumped, Jane starting so badly she shook.

Today I’m officially revealing the cover for the 6th book in my Widows’ Club Regency romance series, The Widow Wore Plaid.

Isn’t it gorgeous? 🙂 And I had a lot of say in what actually went into the design, so I couldn’t be more pleased with it.

And here is an excerpt from The Widow Wore Plaid, just to whet your appetite.
EXCERPT:
Throwing up his hands, he groaned and sagged against the wall, his banyan sliding half off him. “Have your way with me, woman. I surrender myself into your hands. Do with me what you will and I swear I will enjoy it.”
Panting, she stepped back from him, seeing the sculpted muscular form, strong arms, and dark eyes glazed with smoldering desire as if for the first time. This man wanted her, or had wanted her to be his wife for a long time. No one would ever make her feel this way again, no matter how many lovers she might take. She could look for the rest of her life and not find a man as kind or generous or loving as he. And she had all but thrown his love away with both hands. The revelation devastated her and she hung her head.
“Jane?” Kinellan straightened, peering into her face.
Sobbing, she threw her arms around him, laying her head on his broad chest, the only place she wanted it to be. Tears pricked her eyes. The fast beat of his heart beneath her ear should have given comfort, but did not, for her own heart was tearing asunder. The trickle of tears became a flood.
“Darling.” He slipped his arms around her, cradling her close. “What is wrong?”
“I…I don’t want to leave.”
“Sweetheart.” He cupped her chin and turned her face up to his. A thundery frown marred his brow. “Who has asked you to leave? Was it Aunt Prudence? Fiona?”
“N…no.” Jane sniffed, trying to blink back the tears and regain her composure.
“Someone else?” His frown grew darker.
She nodded. “You.”

I’m back this week with a final excerpt from my just released Heart of Hope, the sixth book in my Handful of Hearts novella series. It’s the story of Lady Letitia Stowe and Mr. Albert (Bertie) Symmons, who meet, although not for the first time, at Lady Hamilton’s ball (where all couples meet in this series).
Today is the last day for excerpts from Heart of Hope. Next week I’ll begin snippets from my upcoming release The Widow Wore Plaid!

BLURB:
Wallflower Lady Letitia Stowe is determined to dance with no one at Lady Hamilton’s ball unless she knows the gentleman. When just such a man appears in the form of Albert Symmons, Letitia is suddenly eager to dance with him…until she discovers their set is the scandalous waltz. Letitia begs off and instead they talk together, each confessing a weakness. Inspired to help one another, they make a pact: she will instruct him in dancing, and he will do likewise for her in horseback riding. Their frequent meetings grow into true affection and respect; however, Letitia discovers her brother has another match in mind for her.
Can Letitia and Bertie come up with a way to change her brother’s mind or will they need to take more drastic measures to secure a “happily ever after”?

This excerpt takes up right where we left off: Letitia is trying to be a wallflower because she doesn’t want to dance with anyone she doesn’t know. But she spies Mr. Symmons, who she does know, and hopes he’s headed toward her. He is and the conversation this week is now leading toward an invitation to dance. However, at the penultimate moment, Lord Kettering intrudes and asks Letitia for a dance.
We have now switched to Bertie’s POV. Hope you enjoy. I’m starting right where I left off last week. Bertie’s has just admitted he’s “not much of a swimmer.”
Today I’m jumping ahead just a little. Bertie has just claimed Letitia for his dance. But naturally, the course of true love does not run smoothly. Enjoy!
“I believe we must go, my lady. They are making up the set.” Mr. Symmons glanced at the floor and cocked his head. “I beg your pardon, I was mistaken. They are not making up sets for this dance.”
The first strains of the music began, and a cold dread shot through Letitia. “Is it a quadrille, perhaps?”
“I don’t think so.” He peered first at the dance floor then at the orchestra leader. “I believe they are going to play another waltz.”
Letitia’s mouth dried. Much as she enjoyed Mr. Symmons’s company, she simply could not dance a waltz with him. “Are…are you certain?”
He looked out over the floor, where couples were standing together, not forming longways sets. “I believe so, my lady.”
“Oh, dear, this is terrible.” She had so looked forward to dancing with Mr. Symmons, something she’d never thought would happen. But she simply couldn’t do it. “I do apologize, Mr. Symmons, but I’m afraid my brother thinks the waltz too scandalous for a young woman to dance.”
His eyebrows shot up, quite comically. “I say, that’s deucedly odd. It is 1820, after all. Most people don’t deem it scandalous at all these days.”
“Yes, others have remarked on that little foible of his.” Letitia fingered the golden heart necklace at her throat. “But he is adamant. In fact, he’s forbidden me to dance it with anyone in public.” She didn’t like lying to anyone, especially to her current partner.

Heart of Hope is now available to download on Amazon. Today is the last day to get it at the pre-order price of .99, so grab your copy now. After release it will revert to its regular price of $2.99.

I’m back this week with another excerpt from my just finished WIP Heart of Hope, the sixth book in my Handful of Hearts novella series. It’s the story of Lady Letitia Stowe and Mr. Albert (Bertie) Symmons, who meet, although not for the first time, at Lady Hamilton’s ball (where all couples meet in this series).

BLURB:
Shy wallflower Lady Letitia Stowe is determined to dance with no one at Lady Hamilton’s ball unless she knows the gentleman. When just such a man appears in the form of Albert “Bertie” Symmons, Letitia is suddenly eager to dance with him until she discovers their set turns is the scandalous waltz. Letitia begs off and instead they talk together, each confessing a weakness. Inspired to help one another, they make a pact: she will instruct him in dancing and he will do likewise for her in horseback riding. Their frequent meetings grow into true affection and respect until Bertie is so bedazzled by Letitia he asks her to marry him and she joyously says yes.
Unfortunately, Letitia’s brother has another match in mind for her with the wealthy, titled Lord Kettering. To change her brother’s mind, Letitia and Bertie stage a series of faux rescues where Bertie is the hero. Regrettably, none of them work and Letitia fears they may have to resort to a tried and true method of assuring their marriage: have Bertie compromise her. However, when Bertie proves unwilling to go down that path to matrimony, Letitia may have to take matters into her own capable hands.
“I’m merely waiting for Lady Letitia to finish her dance so I can secure her for another one.”
Seaton picked her out of the whirling figures on the floor dancing The First of April. “Another pretty young lady in this year’s crop. I wish you luck as well.” He shifted his gaze once more to Miss Powell, who returned it with a sweet smile. Seaton seemed to freeze then mumbled, “Excuse me, Symmons,” and hurried toward the lady.
Finding himself suddenly abandoned, Bertie looked about for someone to converse with, but no one of his acquaintance was near. So he turned his attention to the dance floor, easily spotting Lady Letitia as she promenaded with her partner. Though her lips were set in what would pass for a smile, Bertie could tell she wasn’t particularly enjoying herself. Her partner, however, seemed not to notice the lady’s discomfiture.
Kettering chattered to his partner non-stop, oblivious to her distress. How ungentlemanly of his lordship. When Bertie got to partner her, he’d make certain she enjoyed the dance.
The couple circled, Kettering still talking almost without taking a breath. Lady Letitia’s face had frozen, her smile shrinking with each passing moment. The longer he watched them, the more incensed Bertie became. For tuppence, he’d plant the man a facer once he was off the dance floor. If Bertie knew a gentleman looked to a lady’s comfort above all else, Kettering should bloody well know. Poor Lady Letitia. The moment the dance ended, Bertie vowed to jump in and rescue her.

Heart of Hope is now up for pre-order on Amazon and will release next Sunday on October 31th. The pre-order price is just .99, so grab your copy now. After release it will revert to its regular price of $2.99.
