Holiday Gifts of Love BlogHop December 14-17 “Traditions”

C

Holiday traditions are big at our house.  They always have been, from the time I was young.

When I was a little girl, we always had a live Christmas tree, put multi-colored candles in the window, sent Christmas cards, and listened to special Christmas music:  A Firestone Christmas album of Julie Andrews singing Christmas carols and Elvis Presley’s Christmas Album.  (Christmas still isn’t Christmas without listening to The King sing White Christmas and Santa Bring My Baby Back. 🙂

16272368_sMy mother and I always made Christmas cookies (my cousin’s recipe) and a cake in the shape of a Christmas tree–with green icing of course.  And I always loved wrapping the presents.  I wrapped all of our gifts and then went to my aunt’s house and wrapped hers!

On Christmas morning I always got up early, so my dad could watch me open my presents before going off to work (he got double time on Christmas Day).  We had ham biscuits under the tree as we opened presents, then after all the ooohing and ahhhing was done, my  mother and I would dress up in our new outfits and make the rounds of the family.  It simply wasn’t Christmas if we didn’t visit cousins and aunts and uncles all over the area.  And always in the same order.  Like I said, tradition is a strong part of the holiday for me.

Now, with my own family, the traditions have changed some.  I still send Christmas cards–I address them on Black Friday!  We still have a live tree (always will if I have anything to16397387_s say about it), but now our girls decorate it all by themselves, a tradition we started when they were about 5 & 6.  We don’t bake special cookies, but Christmas is still about special foods. We have oyster stew and ham biscuits for breakfast.  For lunch Cornish game hens.  And for desert, sherry trifle and pumpkin pie.  We stay home all day and play with our “toys,” though sometimes we go to a movie in the afternoon.  (This year we go to see Les Miserables!)

Each of the tales in my collection of Christmas stories, All Wrapped Up, began with a tradition:  giving presents, mistletoe, caroling, and Christmas dinner.  These romances are short and sweet–or as one reviewer put it “like eating romance M&Ms.”

Blurb for All Wrapped Up:

Four short stories filled with romance at Christmas time.
The Present
A girl has to break the news to her sister’s boyfriend that he’s being dumped–on ChristmasRobin-final Eve– and finds herself a pawn for the boyfriend’s revenge.
Sing A Christmas Carol
A singing group’s decision to drop one member before the big carolling competition leads to an awkward situation.
The Kissing Tree
Two children discover a secret place on Christmas Day–with far-reaching effects.
‘Tis the Season
A Christmas dinner announcement shatters a young girl’s dream of a magical social season until a knight in shining armor proposes an alternate plan.

Now to the real fun stuff!  We want to hear about what you do for the holidays, what you read, and who you’ll spend it with. We hope to see you here and happy hopping!

And while we do that, we are EACH doing a giveaway. Yep. There will be over 200 giveaways on each blog hosted by that Author or Blogger.

But that’s not all….

Almost Perfect is FREE!

AP-JJ-200x300

That’s right!  My erotic contemporary 1Night Stand novella, Almost Perfect is FREE this weekend on ARe.

Please go by, download, tweet, and share on Facebook!  Oh, and enjoy!

Blurb for Almost Perfect:

Pamela Kimball’s birthday present, a 1Night Stand adventure, promises to jump-start her life, put a new man in her bed, and help her forget her past.  Unfortunately, movie-buff Pam’s Pirates of the Caribbean fantasy takes an alarming wrong turn when she’s abandoned on a not quite deserted island—with ex-husband Roger Ware.

Forced by hunger to accept Roger’s offer of dinner,  Pam realizes the geek she married has transformed into one of the most charming, sexiest men she’s ever met. His newfound confidence—and hot body—re-kindle old fires.  A simple kiss leads Roger to challenge her to discover how much his lovemaking skills have improved, leaving Pam torn between self-preservation and burning desire.

With time running out before they’re rescued, Pam must decide if her heart can survive the consequences of becoming Roger’s “almost” perfect 1Night Stand.

Excerpt for Almost Perfect:

She inched into the lapping surf, searching for movement. Reflection off the water made this task harder than expected. Wasn’t the Caribbean supposed to be teeming with fish?  Now that’s something she’d had a lot of instruction in. Almost every marooned-on-an-island movie had a scene where the heroine learned to catch fish. Six Days, Father Goose, Blue Lagoon. All you needed was your hands and patience. She could do this.

Pam waded out further then stopped just before the water hit her now dry shorts. “Not gonna to have a damp crotch all night.” The words reminded her of exactly what she had hoped for tonight. “But not from wet shorts!” She headed back to shore to remove and drape them next to her shirt. The bandeau was a different story. Still damp, even after several hours, and uncomfortable. Might dry better if not next to her skin anyway. “Screw it!  Live dangerously.”

Standing as good as naked on the deserted beach, Pam smiled as the warm breeze caressed

her bare body. The sense of being slightly naughty added to her delight in the sensual feel of the air as it dried her breasts. Her nipples peaked as the wind cooled them. She strutted down to the water’s edge to sink her toes in the sand, the salty tang in the air adding to the perfect moment.

“If you’re skinny dipping, you forgot to remove one very important piece of clothing.”

Pam whirled around. Roger stood on the beach behind her, a green bottle of Perrier in one hand. His gaze played up and down her naked torso and his salacious grin widened. “Mind if I join you?”

2.  A Christmas Surprise by Lindsay Downs

If I hear one more debutante declare that they will never marry unless it is for love, well. I shall break my quill! And we all know what happens when I break my quill. Things become very upsetting and it isn’t long before I— Well, that is quite another story. Let this author, this matriarch, this paragon of society guide you with her infinite wisdom. It is apparent AChristmasSurprise 200x300that many of you have gotten this silly notion of love in your head, most likely from American influence, and please do not get me started on those savages. The point, young dears, is that love, is silly. Take for example Lady Aleece, poor young dear never stood a chance! Can you imagine being mauled in public? By a commoner no less? Although, rumors have been running rampant that this very delicious commoner is in fact the Marquess of Somerset, I have my doubts. For one thing, a Marquess should be more unfortunate looking which is clearly not the case with Somerset. Let this be a lesson dear readers. If you marry for love, there is a very big chance that you will end up with your heart broken, or in that wretched commoners case—kidnapped (though many believe he should have been killed for even breathing the same air as our fair lady). Dear readers, have I taught you nothing this holiday season?—Mrs. Peabody’s Society Papers.

A Christmas Surprise is available at Astraea Press, B&N, and Amazon.

8.  Rekindling Christmas by Yvette Hines

RekindlingChristmas 453x680

However, she is in for a shock when she arrives at Village Resort and discovers that “home” has followed her to Colorado, in the form of Carson Rodman. Carson and his family had never been ‘tight-knit’ and spending holidays together never formed in their plans. After a year of nursing a bad break-up he allows his best friend to convince him they should spend the holiday on the slopes picking up single snow bunnies. When he literally bumps into a woman from his past that he has never been able to get out of his wet dreams, he knows that this wonderland vacation has turned into paradise. Years ago, he missed his chance with Ryanne, but he refuses to allow her to get away again.

AP-JJ-200x300

Pam’s fantasy 1Night Stand has gone very awry.  Instead of her pirate lover, she’s left with her ex-husband.  However, Roger’s been busy during the two years of their divorce–and he’s decided to show Pam what he’s learned.  Vigorously.

In no time, he’d built a delicious tension that excited her in a whole new way. Then he shifted to faster, deeper thrusts, squeezing her ass as he pumped in and out. He brought her body to the sharp pinnacle of release just as he groaned and dipped them into the water.

Please check out the Horny Hump Day blog site for the other sites on the hop and go visit the other hot authors.   The site also gives the details of how to sign up for next week if you’d like to play with us. 🙂

Hello everyone! I thought I’d let you meet the core triad of the House. You can
even leave questions, if you’d like, and the characters will graciously stop by later
today to respond. Just remember, never piss off a vampire. Human loving or not,
their tempers are not for mere mortals.

Áine: I would like you all to meet Mistress Anya and her two mates, Nicholas and
Declán.

Anya: Blessings everyone. It’s a bit unusual that our author introduces us to so
many RW mortals but I’m glad you’ve all stopped in to visit.

BV-litDeclán: Hey guys. *waves* Now, at least, I don’t have to be the only mortal in the
room. And before you say it, no Áine, you don’t count. You’re our author so that
kinda sets you on a different level. *wink*

Nicholas: *Giving a deep bow* Greetings and welcome. In case you don’t know
already thanks to our beloved one Dec, he’s the human and I’m the other here with
fangs. *gives a wicked, fully fanged grin*

Áine: Yes, that you are Nicholas. I was hoping to get you each to share a little
about yourselves for our new friends. They don’t know you all yet so . . . Normally
we would start with Anya but let’s do something a little different. Declán, could
you share what it’s like to live at the House Millar with your two mates?

*Declán shrugs his shoulders* Sure. I’m not sure what exactly to tell them though.
I mean, if it weren’t for how fast they move and that I’m the only one that usually
eats at the house, you’d not really know what they are. Well, most wouldn’t.

You see, I live with Anya and Nicholas who are both what they call aberrant
vampires. It just means that they don’t kill humans to live like the void-eyed ones
do. It’s not that they aren’t still bad-assed vampires, they are, but those they
hunt and destroy are the same as what I do – other vampires.

I’m a Guardian. A natural-born vampire hunter. And yes *sigh* I can already hear
the arguments but I know all those. The heart wants and loves what it choose, not what others or logic dictates. They are my life and Nic here even serves as a guard right along with me. Notice the nifty themed attire? Cool huh? *Both guys are decked out in leather and seem to have an inordinately large amount of silver weapons on their persons.*

But I’m probably boring your nice readers so I’ll let someone else take over. 🙂

Anya: A ghrá, you could never bore anyone. But you forgot to explain why you are so
special. For those that don’t know, Declán is the last Guardian. He’s also blood andAine-businesscard
soul bound to Nicholas and myself, making him unique and endangered. Somehow,
no one but me seems to think it reasonable that he shouldn’t be hunting vampires,
but . . . even as the Mistress of the House, I get overruled. *She giggles gaily*

Nicholas: In this case you do, love. He’s nearly as good as you are at destroying
those that endanger and kill humans, so you needn’t worry for him. We still need to
work on his logic though.

Declán: What? Bad vampire – dead. Good vampire – not dead. I don’t see the
problem.

*Nicholas just shakes his head*

Áine: I think we all see the problem. Your one mate is stubborn and young. But, you
all have another great issue. Could one of you share a little about that?

Nicholas: I think I would be best to answer this as the other two will become upset
speaking of it. You see, Anya was tortured until her mind snapped in on itself,
wiping out her memory. Those that committed the evil against her don’t seem to
have the sense to stay away from her now.

*pausing to collect himself a moment* My apologies. It’s a difficult thing for me
as well, to think about much less discuss. Anya has been hunted, poisoned, and
attacked by others that wish to use her voice as a weapon. Thankfully, she has a
good heart or no one, vampire or human, would be safe.

In the books that our beloved author, Áine, has scribed for us, you travel with
us through many of the challenges, discoveries, and pains that we all face; but
especially Anya’s as she’s the one telling the story really.

sun-HM-trans1-e1320185364334Áine: Very true Nicholas. But, yours and Declán’s stories get told as well. One last
things before we return the nice lady’s site to her: Is there anything you would like
them to know about your or the books?

Declán: Just that I love how much Áine shows each of our relationships, good and
bad, while still protecting Nic’s need for *smirks* privacy on some things.

Anya: Behave, a ghrá. I can spank you, of course, that’s not really going to make
you behave, is it? *Declán grins* Nope, didn’t think so. I’d just like each of our
readers to go in with an open mind. We aren’t like the others in our world but we
each have our own body counts. 😉

Nicholas: Yes, yours being the highest, love. I would simply like to invite you each
to indulge in a little fang and fun with us. And remember, we never sleep so we’re
always up for fun.

Áine: Er, yeah. I hope you all have enjoyed your peak into their little triad family.

Fang on . . .

Six Sentence Sunday–12/09/12 All Wrapped Up: “‘Tis the Season”

Happy Sunday! And happy holidays!  Hope everyone is getting ready for the season!

For my Six Sentence Sunday post today, I’m continuing from yesterday’s post with  six sentences from ‘Tis the Season, from my Christmas collection,  All Wrapped Up.

Robin-final

These six immediately follow after my post from yesterday.  If you’d like to catch up on what’s going on, click here.

At this point, Jenny has been informed that she is betrothed to Thomas Isley, her next door neighbor who will inherit a title.

“I won’t do it.” She looked up, first at her mother, then her father, and finally at Aunt Maude. “You cannot make me do it. I am to have my come out season in London, Aunt. There are many eligible men with titles there who I might fall in love with and marry.”

“That’s what your mother said to me twenty years ago and instead of raising our family’s status, she chose to marry for love rather than position.”

Thanks so much for visiting me today.  All Wrapped Up is available now at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Smashwords.

Now pop over to the Six Sentence Sunday list and check out the rest of the snippets.  See you there!

Almost Perfect Anniversary

AP-JJ-200x300I realized that exactly one year ago today, Decadent Publishing released my erotic contemporary 1Night Stand novella, Almost Perfect!  This book has always been my favorite of my contemporary works.  It’s sweet and sexy and funny and it makes me smile whenever I think about it.  Kind of sounds like a spouse, now, doesn’t it? LOL

So to celebrate “our” one year anniversary, I’m going to post the book’s blurb and an excerpt and give everyone a chance to leave a comment.  At the end of the day, I’ll randomly choose five commenters to receive a copy of Almost Perfect.  So please leave your email address when you comment!

Standing as good as naked on the deserted beach, she smiled as the warm breeze caressed her bare body.

She whirled around. Roger stood on the beach behind her, a green bottle of Perrier in one hand. His gaze played up and down her naked torso and his salacious grin widened. “Mind if I join you?”

She gasped, wrapping her arms across her chest to shield her breasts from his hot gaze. “What the hell are you doing back here?”

“I came to make peace.” He waved the bottle at her. “Thought you might be thirsty by now.”

Her eyes fastened on the green glass, her mouth suddenly dry as though she’d eaten sand. She took a step toward him then froze, unwilling to take anything from Roger, not there anyway. That would make her feel weak, dependent. At this moment, though, she had to acknowledge, she was weak, dependent and thirsty.

“Come on, Pam. It’s only water.” He still held the tempting thing out to her. Damn. She tromped up to him, her steps thumping as loud as she could make them on the packed sand. Stopping an arm’s length from him, she peeled one hand away from her breasts and shifted her other to cover as much as possible. For once, she thanked God for a B cup. She snared the bottle, shot him a look of triumph, only to realize it remained capped. To open it she’d have to use her other hand.

Furious, she shifted her gaze from the tantalizing object to his gleeful eyes. “Would you open this for me, please?”

“Suddenly lost all your strength, have you, hon?” His eyes took on a hunger she remembered. “It’s not as if I’ve never seen your breasts before.”

“Then you don’t need to see them again, do you?” Heat rose in her cheeks. “Come on, open it. You said it was a peace offering.”

“And these are part of the peace negotiations.” He stood, arms crossed over his muscled chest, better looking than she remembered. Not fair.

“I’m bored. My date still hasn’t turned up, so I thought I’d come harass you a while. I’ll tell you what.” He reached for the Perrier and unscrewed the cap, but didn’t offer it to her. “You show me yours, I’ll show you mine.”

“And why would I want to see yours again?” Her eyes remained on the bottle resting at his hips and watched the carbonated bubbles rising to the top.

“For old time’s sake?” His eyes flashed with mischief as he tipped the sparkling water up and started to drink. She stared, her parched lips opened in outrage. Glug, glug. He made that sound on purpose. Was he going to drink the whole damned thing?

After swallowing at least a third of the contents, he came up for air. “Ah! Hits the spot every time.” He grinned. “Still can’t take a joke? Too bad. Here.” He thrust it toward her. Grabbing with both hands, she shoved the end into her mouth so quick the glass clicked against her teeth. Greedily, she sucked in and almost choked. The exquisite, light lime-flavored water rushed into her body to hydrate the parched cells. Three more guzzles and she breathed deeply, satisfied for the moment.

She pulled the lip away and wiped her hand across her chin where she had dribbled some. Holding it out to him, she noticed his slack-jawed attention riveted straight on her chest. Which meant….

“You still look fine, Pam. Mighty fine.” Her ex-husband licked his lips, his grin reaching almost ear to ear. If there weren’t still some water left in the bottle, she’d brain him with it.

He reached down and slipped off his sandals, then untied his drawstring, all the while gawking at her breasts. With one swift movement, he shucked his pants to reveal a hard, tanned body, complete with a serious erection.

She hadn’t seen that coming. Her mouth dropped open as the Perrier hit the sand. She stared at his fully aroused cock, a shiver of pure desire sparking through her before she dragged her gaze back up to his face. A low chuckle rumbled deep in his chest. “A promise is a promise. You showed me yours.” He threw her one more impish grin before taking off for the water. “You coming?”

I hope you enjoyed that as much as Roger did! LOL

All Wrapped Up for Christmas ~ “‘Tis the Season”

With sweet Saturday Sample on hiatus until the new year, I’m left with a free Saturday to fill.  So I thought I’d go ahead with my planned post–an excerpt from one of the stories in my Christmas Collection, All Wrapped Up.

Robin-final

This is from the beginning of “‘Tis the Season,” an historical tale that takes place at the traditional Christmas dinner.  All is merry and bright–until Jenny, the family’s eighteen-year old daughter, gets some devastating news.

‘Tis the Season

“I believe we are all here, my dear. Will you carve the goose?”

Jenny watched Mamma smile expectantly at Papa, who looked very splendid in his new white silk cravat. She had picked it out herself last week and presented it to him this morning along with all the other Christmas gifts. It was a very special gift, perhaps the last Christmas gift she would give her father as an unmarried woman.

The same thought occurred over and over. This time next year I may be presiding over my own Christmas table. Jenny’s eighteenth birthday had been on the first day of December, which meant this spring she would make her come out with all the other young girls and be unleashed on London to find and secure a husband. And Jenny was confident she would do just that amidst the social whirl that was The Season:  balls, musicals, masquerades, excursions to the theatre and Vauxhall Gardens. She looked forward to her season for so many reasons.

She smiled as she gazed around the table. The whole Crowley family had gathered for Christmas luncheon, which of course included their dear neighbors, Sir John and Lady Ellen Isley and their son, Thomas. The Crowleys and the Isleys had been friends since before she was born, Papa and Sir John having gone to university together. Their daughter Margaret had been Jenny’s bosom friend until she made her debut two years ago. Now she was married to a viscount and had just presented her husband with a son and heir not two weeks ago. Jenny could only hope she would be as fortunate two years hence.

Papa carved busily as plates were passed back and forth and vegetable dishes, bread, and Yorkshire pudding made their rounds of the table. But when her father at last sat and picked up his napkin to say grace, it was Great-Aunt Maude, sitting at the mid-point of the table, who spoke. “So, Charles, when is the wedding to take place?”

“Wedding, Aunt Maude?” Papa’s voice rose in a question, but he cut his eyes toward Mamma, who sent a frightened look at Jenny. The look puzzled her, but no more than her great-aunt’s question. To whose wedding was she referring?

“Yes, Charles. Jenny’s wedding to young Thomas here.” Maude nodded across the table to Thomas Isley, whose eyes shifted from side to side, as though he thought the old lady quite mad. Jenny thought so herself. “She’s eighteen now, and you promised me when she was of age I’d see her married into the Isley family. I have lived for the day I could see one of my family move into the titled class.” She glared at Mamma, who blushed and turned to Jenny.

“It’s not as bad as it sounds, Jenny darling.” But Mamma’s wide eyes said yes, it was that bad.

“Is this true, Mamma?” Jenny’s voice didn’t sound like her own, stilted with shock at the revelation.

“Yes, my dear, it most certainly is.” Aunt Maude nodded with such vehemence the flowers on her hat bobbed back and forth. “When your mother refused to marry up, I swore none of your family would ever see a penny of my money. Then when you were born, she came to me and promised you had already been betrothed to young Thomas here. She showed me the betrothal papers.”

The rest of the table sat in stunned silence. Jenny looked down at her hands, clasped together so tight her knuckles showed white. All her dreams of excitement and romance during her Season had just exploded with her great-aunt’s words.

And in the spirit of the holiday season, I’m giving away three copies of All Wrapped Up to three random commentors today.  So be sure to leave me your email address!

If you’re still feeling lucky, and want to help me celebrate my 1st anniversary, scroll to the latest post on the blog for a chance to win a copy of my contemporary erotic 1Night Stand novella, Almost Perfect.

Fall in Love is now available at Amazon, AllRomance, and Barnes & Noble.

Excerpt from Fall In Love:

The white sands and the deep-blue sea of Cable Beach never ceased to amaze me. As a child we’d visited Broome a couple of times for family holidays, though we had a pond at home, it was nothing compared to the ocean.

As I admired the scenery around me, I saw a camel train headed my way. Of all the things I’d experienced on previous visits to Broome, a camel ride wasn’t one of them. I decided I’d correct that. Just as the camels passed by, the wind whipped something at my face. It scared the crap out of me. At once I grabbed the item and held it out in front of me—a straw hat. I searched around for an owner.

When I glanced up, I saw a stunning, petite brunette looking down at me from her seat on one of the camels. She appeared very apologetic as the camel train continued to move forward. I ran to catch up with the sluggish animals and I handed the hat back to the beautiful woman, feeling lucky I was tall enough to reach.

“Thank you,” she said as she tried to shake my hand.

It worried me she might fall off the camel as she reached for my hand, so, I just waved her away and said, “You’re welcome.”

I watched the camels continue up the beach for a little ways before I resumed my walk.

As I walked along the beach, every now and then, the waves lapped on to my feet. My mind wandered to the brown-haired beauty perched on the camel’s back. I could tell from her thank you she had an Aussie accent. I wondered where she was from, or if I would ever see her again. If ever there were a woman whose beauty optimized what I viewed as perfection, she would be it. Her beauty was natural and understated, not marred by tonnes of make-up. And, although she was by no means fat, she wasn’t one of those stick thin girls you see with absolutely no curves. I wasn’t one to shy away from the fact I liked my women with curves.

I walked for about an hour then sat down on the beach and watched the red and yellow colours dance across the sky as the sun sank below the horizon.

After a while, I became hungry so I headed back to the hotel to grab some dinner at the

One of the main things I looked forward to during my holiday was the chance to eat something other than meat and vegetables for dinner. Don’t get me wrong, my mum was a great cook and no one did a better steak and mash than her. However, they say variety is the spice of life and I planned to spice up my life with many different dishes.

I headed back to my room to change before dinner. After a quick shower to rid myself of the salt from the beach, I pulled on a pair of well-worn jeans and a button-down shirt. I rolled the sleeves up to my elbows and on my way out the door, I grabbed the book I brought to read while I ate.

Though dining alone wasn’t one of my favourite things, I’d done it quite a few times. After the first couple of times I sat bored and twiddled my thumbs as I waited for my food, I now found time passed quicker if I had a book to read. This time around, I’d brought with me the latest John Grisham novel.

After ordering deep-fried Camembert and cranberries for entrée and garlic butter lobster for the main course, I opened my book and began to read. I’d only read a few lines when I heard a very quiet, “Excuse me.”

When I looked up from my book, I expected to see a waitress with my entrée but instead, I saw the gorgeous woman from earlier. “Hi?” I said.

“It looks like you’re eating alone. Would you mind if I joined you?”

Stunned that she asked to sit with me, it took a few seconds for my thoughts to catch up. All I managed to say was, “Of course.”

“I’m Mia Mason,” she said as she took the seat opposite me and held her hand out to me.

“Michael Dunbar,” I replied as I shook her hand.

The moment we touched, I felt a strange, yet pleasurable sensation move up my arm and quickly spread throughout my body.

“Nice to meet you.” A cheeky grin lit up her face—as if she knew a secret nobody else did.

If you like what you read, go take a closer look!  Sounds like a sweet read!

Crash Into Me: Interview with Jessica E. Subject and Crash Landing

CrashLandingTour

Today I’m welcoming once more my great friend and fellow Decadent Publishing author, Jessica Subject.  She’s just released a new short story for Decadent’s Edge Line and I’m so happy she’s here to tell us about Crash Landing.

Hello, Jessica.  So wonderful to have you back with another fabulous new book!  Can you tell us a little about it?

Crash Landing is a sci-fi erotica short story about Cael, an alien on a solo peace mission to Earth. Unfortunately, his ship crashes. Here’s the blurb:

As his ship plummets toward Earth, Cael believes his life to be over. His last-ditch effort to save himself ends in a fiery crash. When he wakes up, he believes he’s entered the afterlife, but his surroundings indicate otherwise. He made it to Earth. But who saved him, and what do they want with him?

Ooh, excellent question!  Do you only write in this genre?  If not, what other genres/sub-genres do you write in?

I write a lot of science fiction romance, and also write contemporary romance. I have a paranormal story out too, called The Power of Three. They can be New Adult, Erotic Romance, and Erotica.

What was your inspiration for this story?

My editor, Kate Richards, and I were discussing blue aliens, and this idea popped into my head. Though the story isn’t exactly as it first started out. The story originally was going to take place in the water, and be strictly M/M, but Tara forced her way into the story, and brought the guys to dry land.

Don’t you love pushy characters like that? LOL

Titles are one of the most important things to an author.  How did you come up with your title?  Was this the only title, or did you have a working title as well?

This story was always going to be called Crash Landing. It starts out with Cael crash landing on Earth. Sometimes, the title comes first, and other times I struggle in finding the right one.

I do understand that.  And the title has to be just right or it throws the whole book off.

I am also a fanatic about my character names. Are the character names in Crash Landing special in any way?

Yes, I’m glad you asked. I wanted the names of the characters to have meaning since they all originate from a different place. I used GoogleCrashLanding Translate to find the Latin words for space, water, and land. Thus, the characters are named Cael, Mare, and Tara.

How cool is that!  Love the idea of Latin names!

What was your process for writing this book?  Is this different or the same as other books you’ve written?

With every story, I let the idea turn in my head for a couple of days. Then I write, edit, send to my critique partners, edit some more, and submit. This story skipped my CPs and was submitted after a few rounds of edits.

Do you have plans to turn Crash Landing into a series?  Why or why not?

No, I don’t have any plans to turn this story into a series. It was written simply as a short story. Though it does belong to The Edge erotica line at Decadent Publishing. I have two other books in that line, The Power of Three, and Alien Lover which releases tomorrow. And I do have other stories with blue aliens, such as Celestial Seduction and Satin Sheets in Space.

Now for some non-book related questions.

Who is your favorite hero or heroine and why?  What qualities do they possess that make them memorable?

Oh my gosh, I love all of them. In the books I’ve read, and the ones I’ve written. If the hero is a sexy alien or a clone, even better. But it’s so hard to choose.

Yeah, that’s loaded question all right. 🙂  It is so hard to choose, isn’t it?

Who was the first author and book you read in this genre?

There is quite a bit of science fiction romance, and science fiction erotica. The problem with the erotica is that most of sex with aliens involves tentacle (octopus-like) aliens. I’ve read a couple, but the stories just didn’t do it for me. I prefer my aliens to be more Human-like and sexy as hell. And sometime they have blue skin. LOL In the SFR genre, the first book I remember reading was Touched by an Alien by Gini Koch. I’ve read so many other awesome ones as well, and have plenty more waiting on my e-reader.

Tentacle sex does NOT appeal to me in the slightest!  Although I loved the scene from Galaxy Quest where Fred got it on with a tentacled alien! LOL

Who has been the greatest influence on your writing?

I’ve met some fabulous author online and in person over the last three years, and many of them have greatly influenced my writing, helping me to improve my style all the time. I’m very grateful for all of their help and guidance.

If you could have one wish granted just for you (not world peace, LOL), what would you wish for?

Just for me? Wow! I don’t usually think in that mode, especially since becoming a mother. I guess it would be to move into a big house in the middle of a forest. Perfect!

Ooooh the peace and quiet you’d have!  Heaven!

What is the most exciting/daredevil thing you’ve ever done?

When I was a kid, I used to carry snakes around my neck and went zip-lining at camp, but haven’t done much of that as an adult. I went topless once at a conservation area, but there was no one around. Just my husband and I, and nature. It was so hot, and since he could take his shirt off, I decided to take mine off, too. Oh, and I got my first tattoo almost two months ago now.

Jeez, Jessica!  Snakes, tattoos and public nudity!  Daredevil should be your middle name! LOL  You go, girl!  And thanks so much for guesting on my blog today.

Thanks so much for hosting me on your blog, Jenna!

Jessica’s also made a trailer for her Sci-Fi books.  Please tak a look here:  http://youtu.be/p1Wr59y9F5I
