A Little Christmas Cheer

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all my readers!  Today, to start off my blog’s Christmas celebration, I’m announcing the winner of my blog’s giveaway for the recent Holiday Gifts of Love Blog Hop.

congrats2

FARRAH!

I’ve already sent you an email and hope to hear soon which of my books you’d like to have.

And today in lieu of Sweet Saturday Sample, I’m putting up part of what is probably my favorite Christmas story from my collection All Wrapped Up.  And that’s strange because it’s not an historical.  It’s the contemporary short story “The Present.”  Part of my Christmas present to you.  I’ll continue it on Six Sentence Sunday tomorrow,  give an excerpt on Christmas Eve, and finish it up on Christmas Day.

So, enjoy the season with this little bit of cheer!

The Present

by Jenna Jaxon

“I won’t do it, Janice. You can do your own dirty work.” Tessa Avery turned the vacuum cleaner back on and returned to cleaning the carpet in her sister’s living room. She stared at the noisy thing as she pushed it back and forth so violently she almost took out a small end table. Don’t look her in the eye. It’s all over if you make eye contact.

Sudden silence descended as the vacuum stopped dead. Tessa whirled around to find Janice holding the disconnected plug. “You will do it or I won’t pay you for the month.”

It was a threat Tessa had to respect. Unemployed for six months, she counted heavily on the money she got from cleaning her sister’s apartment. But this was going too far. “It’s not in the job description, Jan.”

“It is now.”

“Look, just call and tell him you don’t want to see him any more.”

“I can’t do that. He’s flying back from California and won’t be in touch until after seven o’clock tonight. At which time I will be dancing with that hunky Kevin at the office Christmas party. He said he especially wanted to dance with me and rumor has it he’s in line for vice president next month. Who knows where it could lead? So I don’t plan to be home before one o’clock.” Her eyes glittered like cold stars. “If I’m really lucky, I won’t be home at all. So when Hal shows up, you can just tell him I decided we weren’t right for each other.”

“This is low even for you, Jan.”

Her sister stared at her, beady-eyed, as she waggled the cord back and forth. “Up to you, Tess. Stay here, let Hal down for me, and there’ll be a nice bonus in your envelope. Leave and….” Janice’s smile could have wilted the poinsettias. “Well, I can always find another cleaning lady. It’s two days before Christmas. If you want it to be a merry one, I suggest you stay.”

She bent and plugged the vacuum back in, so the sudden noise masked the “Bitch!” that slipped out of Tessa’s mouth. Janice headed to the bedroom, leaving Tess to contemplate the merits of sororicide and starvation. At least they feed you in prison.

* * * *

Tessa sat, curled up on the couch, flipping back and forth between the classic It’s A Wonderful Life and the equally classic Miracle on 34th Street. She frowned. I need some “bah-humbug.” One hundred and three channels later she determined no one was into the darker aspects of Christmas that night. Well, Hal certainly would be when she dropped Janice’s little bombshell on him.

She was used to doing Janice’s dirty work—it came with the territory of having a beautiful blonde older sister who always got what she wanted by any means possible. So Tess wouldn’t have minded delivering the bad news so much if the guy had been a perv, or too geeky for words. Hell, even geeks deserved better than a second-hand brush off. She tossed the remote onto the coffee table and went to the kitchen in search of solace.

Tess poured herself a stiff rum and coke and stirred her drink, watching idly as the coke foamed over the rim. Hal was a decent guy. He might not be the most handsome man around, but he’d treated her sister well in the six months they dated. Tessa had met him several times; they talked at Janice’s birthday party last month and she liked his offbeat sense of humor.

She shook her head and took a gulp. Hal was too good for Janice. Half a glass later, she was convinced this rejection was for Hal’s own good, though he wouldn’t see it that way. He had given Janice a diamond necklace for her birthday. Crap! I hope he’s not giving her a ring for Christmas!

Tess drained her glass.

Meandering back into the living room, she plopped down on the sofa and peered dizzily at the wall clock. Ten o’clock. Maybe his flight had been delayed. Or better yet, maybe he was too jet-lagged to come over tonight. No need to rush over here, right from the airport—

A knock thundered on the door and Tessa jumped, then groaned and cursed her sister once more. She sighed, shook her head and dragged her feet all the way to the door. The cold air that rushed in made her shiver as much as the figure in the doorway.

“Tessa? Hi. What are you doing here?” The kind, low-pitched voice made Tess feel even worse. She would have to figure out some way to put Janice through this much hell some day.

Something Nice For Christmas: Nikki Lynn Barrett and The Secret Santa Wishing Well

Today I’ve got a special treat for you.  An interview with author and reviewer Nikki Lynn Barrett about her brand new Christmas release The Secret Santa Wishing Well.

flatecover (4)

Welcome to the Journal, Nikki! Tell us a little bit about your new release.

Hi Jenna! Thanks for having me here today! I have to say that first and foremost.   About my new release? Well, The Secret Santa Wishing Well is my debut book. It’s a contemporary Christmas novel and it’s been dubbed as “The perfect read about the true meaning of Christmas”  My characters really took this story and ran with it. I made a different twist on a secret santa type story. Originally, I wanted it to be a secret santa story where the couple is matched somehow as secret santa’s and how one really wanted to do something amazing for the other. But Ben, my heroine’s son, really took over the story (In a nice way) and it changed. Because of Ben’s wish, Jacob and Cheyenne meet because Ben wants his wish to come true so bad, his mom takes him back to the mall a second time. And from there, the story unfolds. This was one of the easiest books to write. I wish all my characters would cooperate as well as these did.

So, what was your inspiration for this story?

I love Christmas reads, so as an author I felt it my duty to create my own. I’ve always loved Secret Santa’s and wondered, what would happen if a couple got together because of a Secret Santa match? Though I put my own spin on it and Behold! The Secret Santa Wishing Well was born. This story really wrote itself….Okay, not literally, but you know what I mean.  I wanted a Christmas read to be through a child’s eyes, and how he made a grown up wish, it would affect his family.  I think we all need a little Christmas magic and some true love, don’t you?

Absolutely!  That’s part of the magic of Christmas!

Now, I am a fanatic about my character names. Are the character names special in any way?

Well, the characters themselves are special, but the names? They just came to me. The only one that really had more of a meaning is Ben. I’m not sure why, but I’ve always loved that name. I thought, why not create a child with that name?  Ben fits. Everyone that’s read the story so far just adores Ben.

Ben seems like an old soul name, you know what I mean?  Comforting, somehow.  I totally understand.

What was your process for writing this book?  Is this different or the same as other books you’ve written?

I wrote it while my son went to preschool. I had been blocked for so long, trying to write. The first week my son was gone, I bounced around between a few stories. Then, the Secret Santa Wishing Well called to me. I came up with the title, started writing, and it just flowed from there. It’s different because the words never came so easily before. It felt great to complete a book, and have it polished up and done within a few months. Great accomplishment for me.

With the success of this one, do you have plans for other Christmas stories?

You know, I was thinking last night about it. My beta reader said she really enjoyed my secondary character, Robin. I thought of writing her a story, and I debated on creating hers as a Christmas story so that way I could also continue with Cheyenne and Jacob, and maybe write their wedding. As for other Christmas stories? Probably. My mind is always racing with ideas, and I love Christmas, so you never know..

*Smile*  I think we may very well see a new one for Christmas 2013!

Okay, now for some standard questions.  Who is your favorite romance hero or heroine and why?  What qualities do they possess that make them memorable?

I know that they had a sad ending, but Romeo and Juliet. They went through hell and back to be together, despite everything stacked against them, they followed their heart. I just wish, in a true romance fashion, that they had their HEA…..

Just like Rose and Jack in Titanic…brilliant love story, tragic ending. *sigh*

And who was the first romance author and book you read?

I read a little bit or romance growing up, but back then I was more likely to read thrillers, and horror. The book that got me really into romance was actually a Harlequin Superromance. My Sister, Myself by Tara Taylor Quinn. Romance, mystery, and a great story had me hooked! Never looked back! Well, I still read mystery thrillers, and horror, but my heart is in romance.

Who has been the greatest influence on your writing?

Luanne Rice, Stephanie Bond, and Wendy Corsi Staub. A perfect mix of emotion, comedy, and thrills. 🙂

If you could have one wish granted just for you (not world peace, LOL), what would you wish for?

I wish for my son to grow and learn, and start talking. He’s speech delayed, but the happiest 3-year-old you’ll ever meet. They’ve been hinting at autism, which I disagree with, but regardless, my wish is for him to succeed and be the best he can be.

That’s every mother’s wish, I think.  I pray yours comes true, Nikki.

So, what is the most exciting/daredevil thing you’ve ever done?

Storm chasing. It’s Arizona, but still 🙂

As in tornadoes?  Yikes!  That is daredevil material!

Now for the Lightning Round:

What is your favorite amusement park ride?

When I was younger, I used to love the Superslide. Lol. Now, I’d have to go with the Tilt-a-Whirl 😀

Tea or coffee?

Tea, all the way. Hot or cold, I don’t care. Lately, my favorite has been blueberry chai tea, from QuikTrip. Yum!

French manicure or color (and if color, what color)?

Color. Depends on my mood. I love a variety.

Beach or mountains?

Oh, beach. Totally beach.

Chocolate or vanilla?

I’m impartial, lol.

Boxers, briefs or commando?

Boxers! 🙂

Blond, brunette or redhead? (preferred men’s hair color)

Brunette. Husband’s hair color and I love it. Especially since he has these hazel eyes that are really brought out because his hair is a dark brunette.

Would you rather skydive or scuba dive?

Scuba dive. I love the water. I don’t like heights, lol.

That is so my exact answer!

Would you rather vacation in Hawaii, Vegas or London?

Hawaii! Can you imagine all the great pictures I’d get on my camera? I’ve been to Vegas, and it was a blast, but I would NOT turn down a trip to Hawaii!

What’s the one thing you would never do?

I would never eat a bug. Ewwww! Anyone that does that…..ugh. Really? kik

I’m with you there!

Whew!  That was a blast!  Thank you so much, Nikki, for answering all these 20 questions and being on the Journal today.

Blurb for The Secret Santa Wishing Well:

flatecover (4)The magic of Christmas has been lost to Jacob Winston. At the suggestion of his ill sister, Jacob takes a job as a Secret Santa at the mall, hoping to restore his Christmas spirit. Even that doesn’t seem to work, until a special little boy ambles up to make a very special wish…
Cheyenne Jensen is struggling to raise her two kids without the help of her ex-husband who refuses to acknowledge his daughter’s existence and doesn’t provide for the son he does. This Christmas is shaping up to be as heartbreaking as the last, until her son Ben’s kind actions lead a stranger to them.
Ah, but it’s Christmas time and the magic has begun.
When Jacob and Cheyenne meet, neither can deny their immediate attraction to one another. As situations arise that require they spend more time together, their feelings grow stronger and stronger.
With Christmas fast approaching, the pair learn what matters most in life. Now, if only they could ditch the ghost of Christmases past. Maybe this holiday will bring some wishes come true- for everyone after all.

Excerpt from The Secret Santa Wishing Well:

It didn’t take long for her to come back. Jacob moved to the living room,16397387_s
standing and waiting. When he saw her coming, he closed the gap between them. Before he could think twice, he touched her shoulder gently, wanting to thank her for the evening.

But instead of talking, he leaned in and kissed her. Just a light kiss. Gentle. Friendly.

Until she responded. She had her arms around him, pulling him for another kiss. Deeper. Sweeter. She tasted so sweet. Her need made him swell. He could do this all night. Jacob pressed her against the wall, their kisses deepening with urgency. He ran his fingers through her fine hair. Hers wrapped around. his neck, rubbing lightly.

Jacob pulled back abruptly. “Cheyenne,” he ground out. “We have to stop.” Before I lose it. He didn’t want to stop. He never expected her to reciprocate like this. Wow. Maybe it wasn’t one-sided after all. Jacob sighed.

That halted everything. She pulled away, looking at him with wide, beautiful eyes. “I’m sorry. I pushed. You must think I’m a fool. I thought, when you kissed me…” Cheyenne attempted to move out of Jacob’s embrace. Oh, damn. She thought he didn’t want her. He did, oh, how he did.

“No, no. Honey, that’s not it at all. Kissing you was magical. Amazing. But we just met. I don’t want to take things too far. But I would love to see you again.” He pushed back loose strands of her hair that hung over her face when she’d moved. She looked so vulnerable. Was she going to cry? Oh hell, he wouldn’t be able to handle it if she did. The last thing he wanted was for her to be upset with him.

“I’d like that, too. It was a wonderful, amazing day, and I have you to thank for it.” She nearly whispered the words, choking up on the last part. “God, I’m a mess. I’m sorry. There’s been so much going on, and my signals are going crazy at the moment.”

Yours aren’t the only one, Jacob thought. He pulled his cell phone from his pocket, typing in her name in the contacts and handing it to her. “Can I have your number?”

She laughed. “Of course.” Her fingers brushed his as she took the phone from him, tapping in her number. She handed it back to him. Electric shocks of awareness zipped through him. His gaze lingered on her, knowing he needed to get the hell out of here before he lost it completely.

Check Mate? Guest Author Sandra Sookoo with The Bride’s Gambit

Today I am so happy to have Sandra Sookoo here on the Journal to talk about her newest release, The Bride’s Gambit by way of the game of chess!

TheBridesGambit_V1_Final-small

Thanks for having me on your blog today, Jenna. I’m excited to talk to you about my recent Regency release, The Bride’s Gambit.

I don’t know about you, but I’m a big fan of the game of chess. I absolutely love pitting my
smarts against my opponent and moving my pieces around the board, declaring a quiet sort of war against an enemy. It requires wit, skill and the ability to anticipate your opponent three moves down the line. Sometimes I win big; sometimes I’m defeated soundly, but every time, it’s the journey that’s enjoyable.

If you think about it, the game of romance is very much the same as chess. Opponents—lovers—move around each other in a dance, striking, retreating and then coming together again. It’s said whoever makes the opening gambit (move) holds control. Is this true? We shall see.

Here’s a dilemma for you: Imagine you’re a highwayman, minding your own business chasing down a coach headed for London, when one of the ladies inside a) doesn’t have a fit of the vapors being asked for valuables and then b) promptly asks you to thoroughly ruin her.

Such is the situation my hero Collin found himself in during the opining chapters of this new
book. Poor guy. Yeah right LOL Vanessa’s not exactly a stranger to the Marriage Mart. You see, she’s been engaged five times… and has fled the wedding ceremonies each time as well. She’s done with the poor bacon-brained men her father has picked out. Now she wants a man who will inflame her insides as well as engage her brain.

Will her gambit pay off in a big way? You’ll have to read the book to find out.

Here’s the blurb for The Bride’s Gambit:

She wants a dashing, courageous man…Vanessa Underhill is on the run from her fifth would-be groom. She doesn’t care for any of the men her father has picked–none engaged her mentally or physically. Hunger for a man who will stir her imagination fires her virginal fantasies.

He wants understanding… When he’s bored with his role as Viscount Blackpool, Collin
Northington becomes a highwayman to gain anonymity and solace. With his face scarred
fulfilling his military duty in India, he hides behind the brigand mask and persona. What he
really desires is a woman who will look beyond outward appearances and take a chance.

If only for one night… In lieu of payment, Collin kidnaps Vanessa from the northern-bound
stage. The more time they spend together—and in each other’s arms—the more they find they have in common beyond heated desire. When Collin delivers an impromptu marriage proposal, Vanessa unmasks more than his scarred face, but will his true identity and her penchant for fleeing grooms ruin what could very well be love?

Opportunity threw them together but circumstances might tear them apart.

And a little excerpt to get you excited: (at the time of this interview I’m still waiting on final edits to come back so forgive any errors or awkward phrasing)

A blast of bitter laughter left Collin’s throat. “Love seldom is a component for marriage
in this day and age. People wed for class advantage and monetary gain. Perhaps boredom. Who knows?”
“Perhaps, but my father sets the matches regardless of what I want.”
“And what is it that you want, Miss Underhill?” His next steps put him a hairbreadth
from her. If he inhaled deeply, he’d touch her.
Vanessa licked her dry lips and tasted dust. “I want…” What do I want? “No one has
asked me that before.”
“Consider this ample time to ponder your answer.”
She looked into his face, held captive by his intense gaze, which sparkled like brandy in
the twilight. “I want to live, to feel, to experience everything I can, yet grandly, with no thought to whether it’s proper or not.” She warmed to her topic. “I want the freedom to paint landscapes and portraits if I feel like it, to scream at the top of my lungs should I desire it, or merely to be left alone if I don’t without having to answer to my parents’ dictates.”
“Ah, and running off to London will gain you these things?”
“I—”
“Why would you want to go to London at this time of year? The air alone will kill you.
Country living is much more favorable.”
“God save me from Surrey’s countryside and the troubles therein.” She needed a whole
new outlook. “I’ll admit, I didn’t think my plan through. I simply wanted to remove myself from the church, those people, and the groom.” She shivered, but suspected it wasn’t due to disgust of Mr. Abernathy. She fought the urge to lean into Collin and investigate his apples-and-oak scent.
Did he smoke a pipe?
“I see.”
Wanting to say the rest of what plagued her, she rushed on, hoping for a kinship with
him. “In the silly recesses of my heart, I’d like to hope that a man will love me for me. Maybe he’ll overlook the woman of the rumors and gossip, ignore my faults and shortcomings.” She swallowed around a lump in her throat. She would not cry in front of him. “To date, this has only been a dream.”
“How well I understand that dream, as I’ve had similar ones, though they’re not silly.”
He placed a gloved finger beneath her chin and tipped it upward. “You should have stayed at the church, Ness.”
Hearing a shortened version of her name from such a figure captivated her senses and
propelled her into heightened awareness. “Why?” The question was little more than a breath of air. Everything seemed sharp and crisp and… more. Being so close to a man—this man—heated her insides and produced a curious dampness between her thighs. Why was he different from the others?
“Being in my company will be a disaster to your reputation and your innocence.”
“My reputation is already tatters, and perhaps I no longer wish to be innocent.” She
gasped at her daring. “I want adventure if only for a night.”
“Then you and I will suit just fine.” With a dip of his head, Collin fit his lips to hers.
Vanessa stiffened. The amount of times she’d been kissed she could count on one hand,
and even then, none of those meetings of mouths had made her feel as if she’d drown in a man’s presence or burn to a pile of ash simultaneously like she did with Collin. She relaxed, and though he didn’t put his arms around her, she slid her hands up his chest to clutch his broad shoulders and savored the warm press of his lips.

All too soon, he pulled away. He regarded her with a mix of desire and speculation.
“Good show.” He stepped aside and gave a shrill whistle that made her startle. Seconds later, a bay mare, saddled and ready, trotted out from the woods. Collin grinned, but this time the smile was cold. “Do you trust me?”
“I have no reason not to as you have not killed anyone in my company nor harmed me in
any way.” Oh, this course of action might be the biggest folly of her life… yet it might be just the thing to help her find the woman she’d always wanted to be.
The highwayman nodded. “Your ride awaits.”

Pam’s fantasy 1Night Stand has gone very awry.  Instead of her pirate lover, she’s left with her ex-husband.  However, Roger’s been busy during the two years of their divorce–and he’s decided to show Pam what he’s learned.  Their passionate night turns into an even more passionate morning.

Her heart raced, all too eager for each stolen moment with him. He leaned forward, sucking her breasts while his fingers played in her slit, until the wonderful ache began to throb again. Sitting erect, he lifted her left leg straight up—her thigh muscles burned with the stretch—until he laid it on his shoulder then thrust forward, making her gasp at the depth of his penetration.

Please check out the Horny Hump Day blog site for the other sites on the hop and go visit the other hot authors.   The site also gives the details of how to sign up for next week if you’d like to play with us. 🙂

Almost Perfect is available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and ARe.  And here’s your treat this week:  I’m on the 1Night Stand blog today with a Free Read entitled An Almost Perfect Christmas–the story of Pam and Roger’s first Christmas together.  You can find it at 1Night Stand Blog Site.

Thanks so much for visiting the Journal once more for Horny Hump Day!

Six Sentence Sunday–12/16/12 Almost Perfect

Happy Sunday! And happy holidays!  Hope everyone is getting ready for the season!

For my Six Sentence Sunday post today, I’m ignoring the holiday for the moment and giving you a snippet from my erotic contemporary 1Night Stand novella, Almost Perfect.  This is because Almost Perfect is FREE today over at All Romance E-books.  Head on over and download your copy!

AP-JJ-200x300

Pam wanted a new man in her life, so she took her birthday present of a 1Night Stand fantasy and asked for a pirate adventure.  What she got was to be alone on a deserted island with her ex-husband.  In this snippet they’ve just had dinner and some conversation, trying to lay their demons.  Then Roger stumbles upon the fact that this is Pam’s birthday and wishes her “Happy Birthday.”

She smiled at the perfunctory words, though the smile dissolved as he leaned forward, grasped her cheeks and kissed her.

She tensed, sucked in air, and her arms rose as though to push him away. But the silky feel of his lips on hers, firm as they pressed again and again, his tongue brushing against the seam, beguiled her. The Roger she remembered never kissed like this. She opened her mouth to tell him so, which allowed his tongue to slip through. The taste of champagne and a little salty tang from the seafood created an unexpectedly erotic flavor.

Don’t forget to download your copy!

Now pop over to the Six Sentence Sunday list and check out the rest of the snippets.  See you there!

Holiday Gifts of Love BlogHop December 14-17 “Traditions”

C

Holiday traditions are big at our house.  They always have been, from the time I was young.

When I was a little girl, we always had a live Christmas tree, put multi-colored candles in the window, sent Christmas cards, and listened to special Christmas music:  A Firestone Christmas album of Julie Andrews singing Christmas carols and Elvis Presley’s Christmas Album.  (Christmas still isn’t Christmas without listening to The King sing White Christmas and Santa Bring My Baby Back. 🙂

16272368_sMy mother and I always made Christmas cookies (my cousin’s recipe) and a cake in the shape of a Christmas tree–with green icing of course.  And I always loved wrapping the presents.  I wrapped all of our gifts and then went to my aunt’s house and wrapped hers!

On Christmas morning I always got up early, so my dad could watch me open my presents before going off to work (he got double time on Christmas Day).  We had ham biscuits under the tree as we opened presents, then after all the ooohing and ahhhing was done, my  mother and I would dress up in our new outfits and make the rounds of the family.  It simply wasn’t Christmas if we didn’t visit cousins and aunts and uncles all over the area.  And always in the same order.  Like I said, tradition is a strong part of the holiday for me.

Now, with my own family, the traditions have changed some.  I still send Christmas cards–I address them on Black Friday!  We still have a live tree (always will if I have anything to16397387_s say about it), but now our girls decorate it all by themselves, a tradition we started when they were about 5 & 6.  We don’t bake special cookies, but Christmas is still about special foods. We have oyster stew and ham biscuits for breakfast.  For lunch Cornish game hens.  And for desert, sherry trifle and pumpkin pie.  We stay home all day and play with our “toys,” though sometimes we go to a movie in the afternoon.  (This year we go to see Les Miserables!)

Each of the tales in my collection of Christmas stories, All Wrapped Up, began with a tradition:  giving presents, mistletoe, caroling, and Christmas dinner.  These romances are short and sweet–or as one reviewer put it “like eating romance M&Ms.”

Blurb for All Wrapped Up:

Four short stories filled with romance at Christmas time.
The Present
A girl has to break the news to her sister’s boyfriend that he’s being dumped–on ChristmasRobin-final Eve– and finds herself a pawn for the boyfriend’s revenge.
Sing A Christmas Carol
A singing group’s decision to drop one member before the big carolling competition leads to an awkward situation.
The Kissing Tree
Two children discover a secret place on Christmas Day–with far-reaching effects.
‘Tis the Season

Almost Perfect is FREE!

AP-JJ-200x300

That’s right!  My erotic contemporary 1Night Stand novella, Almost Perfect is FREE this weekend on ARe.

Please go by, download, tweet, and share on Facebook!  Oh, and enjoy!

Blurb for Almost Perfect:

Pamela Kimball’s birthday present, a 1Night Stand adventure, promises to jump-start her life, put a new man in her bed, and help her forget her past.  Unfortunately, movie-buff Pam’s Pirates of the Caribbean fantasy takes an alarming wrong turn when she’s abandoned on a not quite deserted island—with ex-husband Roger Ware.

Forced by hunger to accept Roger’s offer of dinner,  Pam realizes the geek she married has transformed into one of the most charming, sexiest men she’s ever met. His newfound confidence—and hot body—re-kindle old fires.  A simple kiss leads Roger to challenge her to discover how much his lovemaking skills have improved, leaving Pam torn between self-preservation and burning desire.

With time running out before they’re rescued, Pam must decide if her heart can survive the consequences of becoming Roger’s “almost” perfect 1Night Stand.

Excerpt for Almost Perfect:

She inched into the lapping surf, searching for movement. Reflection off the water made this task harder than expected. Wasn’t the Caribbean supposed to be teeming with fish?  Now that’s something she’d had a lot of instruction in. Almost every marooned-on-an-island movie had a scene where the heroine learned to catch fish. Six Days, Father Goose, Blue Lagoon. All you needed was your hands and patience. She could do this.

Pam waded out further then stopped just before the water hit her now dry shorts. “Not gonna to have a damp crotch all night.” The words reminded her of exactly what she had hoped for tonight. “But not from wet shorts!” She headed back to shore to remove and drape them next to her shirt. The bandeau was a different story. Still damp, even after several hours, and uncomfortable. Might dry better if not next to her skin anyway. “Screw it!  Live dangerously.”

Standing as good as naked on the deserted beach, Pam smiled as the warm breeze caressed

her bare body. The sense of being slightly naughty added to her delight in the sensual feel of the air as it dried her breasts. Her nipples peaked as the wind cooled them. She strutted down to the water’s edge to sink her toes in the sand, the salty tang in the air adding to the perfect moment.

“If you’re skinny dipping, you forgot to remove one very important piece of clothing.”

Pam whirled around. Roger stood on the beach behind her, a green bottle of Perrier in one hand. His gaze played up and down her naked torso and his salacious grin widened. “Mind if I join you?”

2.  A Christmas Surprise by Lindsay Downs

If I hear one more debutante declare that they will never marry unless it is for love, well. I shall break my quill! And we all know what happens when I break my quill. Things become very upsetting and it isn’t long before I— Well, that is quite another story. Let this author, this matriarch, this paragon of society guide you with her infinite wisdom. It is apparent AChristmasSurprise 200x300that many of you have gotten this silly notion of love in your head, most likely from American influence, and please do not get me started on those savages. The point, young dears, is that love, is silly. Take for example Lady Aleece, poor young dear never stood a chance! Can you imagine being mauled in public? By a commoner no less? Although, rumors have been running rampant that this very delicious commoner is in fact the Marquess of Somerset, I have my doubts. For one thing, a Marquess should be more unfortunate looking which is clearly not the case with Somerset. Let this be a lesson dear readers. If you marry for love, there is a very big chance that you will end up with your heart broken, or in that wretched commoners case—kidnapped (though many believe he should have been killed for even breathing the same air as our fair lady). Dear readers, have I taught you nothing this holiday season?—Mrs. Peabody’s Society Papers.

A Christmas Surprise is available at Astraea Press, B&N, and Amazon.

RekindlingChristmas 453x680

However, she is in for a shock when she arrives at Village Resort and discovers that “home” has followed her to Colorado, in the form of Carson Rodman. Carson and his family had never been ‘tight-knit’ and spending holidays together never formed in their plans. After a year of nursing a bad break-up he allows his best friend to convince him they should spend the holiday on the slopes picking up single snow bunnies. AP-JJ-200x300

Pam’s fantasy 1Night Stand has gone very awry.  Instead of her pirate lover, she’s left with her ex-husband.  However, Roger’s been busy during the two years of their divorce–and he’s decided to show Pam what he’s learned.  Vigorously.

In no time, he’d built a delicious tension that excited her in a whole new way. Then he shifted to faster, deeper thrusts, squeezing her ass as he pumped in and out. He brought her body to the sharp pinnacle of release just as he groaned and dipped them into the water.

Please check out the Horny Hump Day blog site for the other sites on the hop and go visit the other hot authors.   The site also gives the details of how to sign up for next week if you’d like to play with us. 🙂
