Interview with Debut Author Ella Quinn

I’m so excited to have my good friend, author Ella Quinn here today, answering questionsElla Quinn about her life as a writer and her debut Regency novel, The Seduction of Lady Phoebe.

Welcome, Ella.  What can you tell us about your new release?

The Seduction of Lady Phoebe is on pre-order. It’s about a lady who is afraid to love and the man who is determined to marry her.

What was your inspiration for this story?

I had a video playing in my mind of an angry woman in Regency dress, pacing.

I am a fanatic about my character names. Are your character names special in any way?

I think they are, particularly if writing an historical. The name was an indication of their social status and/ or profession. So far, all my main characters have introduced themselves to me with appropriate names. I do use two books with historical names for my secondary characters. One has more latitude with servant’s names than one does with a character that is part of the ton, for example. Many people in the country name girls after flowers. Whereas that wasn’t common for a lady’s name until later in the century.

What was your process for writing this book?  Is this different or the same as other books you’ve written?

I’d say my writing method has evolved. My first book I wrote from beginning to end. The second one, I wrote while editing the first, so I had to re-read the previous chapter before I could start again. The third one, I started to write from beginning to end, but had to rearrange it, so some parts got written out of order. Since the fifth book, I write mostly from beginning to end, but frequently write scenes out of order.

Do you have plans for a sequel to this book?

Oh, yes. In fact the first four books of the series are done, and I’m writing the fifth. I plan to have one more to finish this series. I already have the first two books of the next series written.

Who is your favorite romance hero or heroine and why?

I don’t think I have just one, but if I had to pick, it would be Dominic, the Marquis of Vidal from Georgette Heyer’s The Devil’s Cub. A very close second is Hugo Darracott from The Unknown Ajax.

What qualities do they possess that make them memorable?

They are both strong and go after what they want.

Who was the first romance author and book you read?

I can’t remember, but the one that had the most impact on me was Georgette Heyer.

Who has been the greatest influence on your writing?

I think Georgette Heyer has. I love her humor and dialogue.

If you could have one wish granted just for you (not world peace, LOL), what would you wish for?

A publishing contract with a six figure advance.

What is the most exciting/daredevil thing you’ve ever done?

That’s hard. It would be a toss up between scuba diving and taking off on my own driving tour from South Florida to Michigan, through Canada then back down again when I was eighteen. The interstate was not completed at the time.

Now, Lightning Round:

What is your favorite amusement park ride? The round-up

 Tea or coffee? Tea.

French manicure or color (and if color, what color)? French, but only on my toes. I can’t stand any polish on my fingernails.

Beach or mountains? Both. I love water sports and skiing.

Chocolate or vanilla? Chocolate

Boxers, briefs or commando? Commando

Blond, brunette or redhead? (preferred men’s hair color) Brunette

Would you rather skydive or scuba dive? Hahaha. When we meet I’ll tell you about my attempts to jump out of a plane. Let’s just say that I’ve not been the one to stop me. Scuba diving I was successful at learning.

Would you rather vacation in Hawaii, Vegas or London? I already live on a tropical island. London.

What’s the one thing you would never do? Cheat on my husband.

Fantastic answers, Ella!  I can hardly wait to meet you! (Hopefully at RWA!)

Author Interview: Christine Warner and Some Like It In Handcuffs

I’m so excited!  One week later and I have a return engagement with the wonderful Christine Warner who’s celebrating an anniversary today.  Please help me welcome a fantastic author of romantic suspense!

__5167340

Tell us a little bit about your release.

Some Like it in Handcuffs officially released in March 2012, so we are celebrating my year
anniversary. This was my debut book…and I’d love to share the blurb with you.

Sunny Kennedy, the only female in a family of blue blood male detectives, is determined
to prove testosterone isn’t the only qualification required to solve a cold case. Handcuffed
while undercover then taken to the precinct by an attractive detective, her domineering
family demands she work with Detective Judson Blackwolf, or she’s off the case.

Judson Blackwolf thinks women in law enforcement should work behind the scenes. The
prospect of working with his Captain’s sexy daughter doesn’t thrill him. He only agrees in
hopes of solving the murder of his one time mentor’s daughter. Once the case is over, he’s
moving to Montana to heal his wounds from the loss of his last partner.

But when their investigation takes a dangerous turn, Sunny and Judd soon realize their
feelings for each other cannot be denied.

What was your inspiration for this story?

This might sound a little odd, but I actually came up with the title first. Those five words
popped into my head and from there the characters were formed, plots tweaked and my
storyline was born. I’ve found since then that I love to have a title before writing begins,
even if I end up changing it. 🙂

I am a fanatic about my character names. Are the character names special in any way?

I love choosing character names too. I actually can’t start a book until I have them picked
out. When I chose the name Sunny for my heroine it just fit with her personality. She’s a
bit spunky and sassy, but has a big heart. As for Judson, at the time I was working on this
story I worked in a large emergency department. Many patients came through the doors
and I was privy to hundreds of names a night. One patient was named Judson, I had never
heard the name before and loved it on the spot…and I knew instantly what name I’d give
to my hero. 🙂

Do you have plans for a sequel to this book?

When I originally wrote Some Like it in Handcuffs I planned to write a book for each of
Sunny’s four brothers, but several other projects needed tending to first and I haven’t accomplished that goal. I do have one brother’s story complete, but I haven’t submitted it because I don’t know when or if I’ll have a chance to follow up with the other stories and didn’t think it’d be fair to my characters or my readers to only add one story to the series.

But…we’ll see how things go, and if I can manage to get the others written, I’d love to.
Judson, Sunny and all of her brothers hold a special place in my heart…but I want to make
sure I can devote the time needed so their stories have the time they deserve.

If you could have one wish granted just for you (not world peace, LOL), what would you
wish for?

I know most authors wish for this, and I’m no exception…I’d love the ability to write full
time. And it’d be even better if I could do it on my own private island while lounging in
a comfy padded chair with the light breeze from the water keeping me cool while warm
sunshine kissed my skin. 🙂 Heaven!

Now, Lightning Round:

Tea or coffee?

I gave up coffee a few months back…I miss it, but I was also a tea drinker as well…so I’ll
make it. Lol I like warm tea or cold tea. 🙂

Chocolate or vanilla?

Chocolate…hands down!

Blond, brunette or redhead? (preferred men’s hair color)

I’ve always been attracted to tall, dark and handsome…Hello Gerard, Johnny and Jake 🙂

Would you rather skydive or scuba dive?

I’m terrified of heights, so I’d have to go with scuba diving. Actually, I think I’d really like
that adventure. 🙂

What’s the one thing you would never do?

The first thing that comes to mind is skydive! lol

Thank you so much for coming by today, Christine.  Best of luck with your tour and the book.  So nice to see you again.

Excerpt for Some Like It In Handcuffs:

“This isn’t how I wanted it between us.” Judson grabbed the neckline of her sweater, dragging her body to meet his with a solid thump. Sunny licked her lips in answer to the question in his eyes. He lowered his head to move his mouth over hers.

Sunny closed her eyes, a small whimper escaping her lips. She didn’t want it like this either, but that wasn’t possible. Unable to resist her attraction she accepted it wasn’t an affair, or a long distance romance she craved, but for him to love her back. It was all or nothing for her. Her heart sank. She accepted this as their goodbye kiss.

With no thought to what was happening upstairs, Sunny rose up on her toes demanding more. Her lips pulsated against Judson’s. When his hand trembled against her cheek in a soft caress she lost touch with reality.

“Judson.” Sunny’s weakened body drifted farther into Judson’s as his fingers glided down her arms, pulling them to her sides where their fingers intertwined. He forced them behind her before his tongue thrust into her mouth.

Their bodies molded together, she heard her own heartbeat and his as well when he curved his fingers around her rear and squeezed.

That’s when the click of the handcuffs against her wrist connected her to the handle of the locked cupboard.

“What the hell…Judson?” She looked up at him, her knees shook, her body still inflamed with fever.

“Like I was saying, you wait here and I’ll go upstairs to check it out. Backup’s already been called, so you’re safe until your brothers arrive.” Judson winked before walking toward the steps to the third level. Once he reached them he turned toward her and smiled. “Gotcha,” he whispered with his notorious grin.

Thomas’s mouth twisted into a sneer. “Why does this matter so much to you, Geoffrey? The girl must wed you. What does it matter whether she comes willing or not to your bed? You are acting the lovesick fool!” He managed to wrest his tunic away and put some distance between them.

“Better a lovesick fool than a man incapable of feeling.”

Sweet Saturday: 04/06/13 Betrothal ~ “A Flicker of Fear”

Welcome back to Sweet Saturday Sample!  All excerpts here are rated PG-13 or milder.

I’m continuing with a sample from my medieval WIP, Time Enough to Love:  Book 1 ~ Betrothal.

NEWS!  MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT!

APRIL 19 IS OFFICIAL RELEASE DATE FOR BETROTHAL!

WOOHOO!

Disclaimer:  This work is still going through the editing process, so please forgive any flaws.

Betrothal with Logo

This series is set in England and France in 1348.  Part 1, Betrothal, takes place at the court of King Edward III.

This excerpt includes last Sunday’s 8 sentences.  Geoffrey is confronting Thomas about the trouble he has caused between him and Lady Alyse.  He is NOT pussyfooting around. LOL

By the time Geoffrey returned to the reception room, Thomas had moved closer to the door in anticipation of the king’s customary afternoon ride. His entrance drew no one’s attention as the courtiers were milling about, waiting for the king to rise. He took the opportunity of the unguarded moment to seize his friend’s tunic and shove him out the chamber door.

“Geoffrey! Have you lost your senses? What are you doing?” Thomas grasped his arms, tried to break his hold, but to no avail.

Geoffrey bore him into the corridor and threw him unceremoniously into the far wall. Thomas whirled, and reached for his knife. Geoffrey darted forward, struck the blade from his hand and grabbed his clothing again.

“You had to interfere, Thomas. Had to plant doubt in my mind.” Geoffrey’s voice lowered in deathly calm, though he seethed with anger. He adjusted his hold on the dull red fabric, screwing it into a tight knot against Thomas’s chest.

“What are you talking about, Geoffrey? You are not making sense.” Thomas glared at him, though Geoffrey caught a flicker of fear in his friend’s eyes. Good.

“I went to Alyse to learn her choice because you thought it would be ill-advised.” Geoffrey leaned his full weight into Thomas, trapping him against the wall with no hope of escape. “Now, in trying to prevent one disaster, I have created another. She thinks I do not trust her judgment and has withdrawn from me. Christ, she may not even speak to me again. Everything I have worked for the past two days, the trust, the companionship, the regard, has vanished.” He shook Thomas roughly, like a terrier with a rat, and turned a cold eye on his friend. “And you are going to help me get them back.”

I hope you enjoyed this latest sample from  Betrothal.   And be sure to click here to visit more Sweet Samples.

E is for Earl Ferrers

I’ve kind of been waiting for this one. 🙂

Laurence Shirley4th Earl Ferrers

Laurence Shirley
4th Earl Ferrers

Laurence Shirley, the fourth Earl Ferrers, came to my attention as I was looking for information on something else.  I can’t remember what I was researching, but I stumbled upon a list of firsts and lasts.  And while reading this fascinating list, I came upon the gruesome fact that Laurence Shirley, Earl Ferrers, “has the dubious distinction of becoming the last peer of the realm to be hanged as a common criminal.”                                 (capitalpunishmentuk.org)

At the age of twenty, Laurence Shirley, left Oxford and set out for Paris, where he began a wild life of excess that would continue his whole life.  In 1745 he inherited the title of earl from his uncle, who had died insane, and went to the main residence at Staunton Harold Hall in Leicestershire.  In 1752 he married a 16 year-old girl, Mary Meredith.  This marriage was far from happy.  Ferrers was a drunkard and a womanizer (he had a mistress from 1743 and continued his relations with her throughout his marriage and after it) and prone to violent outbursts.

Apparently life with Ferrers got so bad that in 1758 Mary obtained a separation from her husband by Act of Parliament, extremely rare for the time.  She would have needed to prove adultery and cruelty against Ferrers with strong evidence in order to secure the separation.  The fact that she managed to do so speaks volumes about her married life.  The courts also ruled that she receive rents from some of Ferrers property as compensation.  These rents were collected by a trustee of the estate, an old steward named John Johnson.

In January 1760, Ferrers asked Johnson to visit him at Staunton Harold Hall.  A violent

Earl Ferrers Shootinghis steward

His Steward

disagreement ensued and Ferrers shot Johnson, who died the next day.  Ferrers was arrested for willful murder and sent to the Tower to await trial.  Ferrers used an insanity defense and as there was history of it in the family it might have proved valid.  However, it did not.  His peers on the jury each found him guilty of willful murder resulting in the sentence of hanging by the neck until dead. Ferrers afterward said he had only used that defense at the insistence of his family.

The earl tried to get the method of execution changed to beheading–hanging being the fate of common criminals.  Beheading, however, was reserved only for acts of treason.  So Earl Ferrers’ execution by hanging was set for May 5th at Tyburn.

A new gallows was constructed for the event.  Ferrers wore his wedding suit for the occasion:  “a light colored satin one embroidered with silver, saying ‘he thought this at least as good an occasion for putting them on as that for which they were first made.’”                  (capitalpunishmentuk.org) The procession from the Tower to Tyburn took  2 3/4 hours because of the huge crowds who had turned out to witness the execution.  Ferrers mounted the scaffold, prayed briefly, paid the executioner, and had the noose put round his neck.  Though often reported that the noose was made of silk, this appears to be a myth.  The executioner released the trap but the new apparatus did not function properly and it took the earl about four minutes to die.  He was declared dead and sent to the Surgeon’s Hall for dissection.  His body was put on display and three days later given over to the family for interment.

(If you would like a fuller account of the death of the Earl Ferrers, please visit capitalpunishmentuk.org)

And why, you may ask, have I been waiting to tell this particularly grisly story?

onlyscandalwilldoVintage(1)The details of Laurence Shirley’s crime and death formed the “back story” for my first historical romance, Only Scandal Will Do.  My hero, Duncan Ferrers, is distantly related to the Shirleys but still feels the breath of scandal from the earl’s demise.  Duncan ends up fighting duels because of Ferrers’s insanity plea and death and removes to Italy for a time to let the furor die down.  My novel begins when he returns to England to find himself still under the pall of his relative’s actions.  In an effort to cheer himself, he goes off for a night of carousing and…well, therein lies the tale. 🙂

I’ve been extraordinarily happy with the serendipity that led me to find the story of the death of Earl Ferrers.  Have any of your stories been inspired by something you found through a fortunate accident?

Interview with Echo and Aethan from Absolute Surrender

Today I’m really excited to be interviewing Echo and Aethan from Georgia Lyn Hunter’s new release Absolute Surrender.

AS-pic 2013-03-22 at 4.47.38 PM

Jenna: Hi, Echo and Aethan!  So good to see you!  Now tell me, what was your first impression of your writer?

Echo: Hi Jenna, thanks for having us. My writer, she has a weird sense of humor, I mean
she had me almost stabbing my mate. Twice. *snort *

Jenna: *startled* How did you two meet?

Aethan: Through the job. Tracking a vicious demonii and there she was killing the bas—
asses.
Echo: The fiend crossed my path, he had to die.

Jenna:  Uh, that would seem necessary. *gulp*  So, what is your greatest strength? Greatest weakness? How have they shaped your life?

Echo: My family. Greatest weakness: Aethan.
Aethan, glances at her, shakes his head: She’s my downfall.

Jenna: Echo what first drew you to Aethan? What qualities does he possess that are attractive to you?

Echo: His hair.
Aethan: Is that all?
Echo: Yes.
Aethan: We will revist that comment when we’re done here. *turns to me * Her qualities?
She drove me crazy…still does.
* Echo laughs *
Aethan glances at her: She wasn’t afraid to love one like me.
* Echo strokes his arm *

Jenna: *smiles*Aethan, what does Echo do that drives you absolutely crazy?

Aethan: Everything. She’s unbelievably stubborn.
Echo: hmm…pot—kettle—black?
*Aethan glances at her in amusement *

Jenna: Echo, if you could be in any other profession, what would you do and why?

Echo: I would have wanted to play Arwen in Lord of the Rings. Why? Because I just lovvve
Aragorn.
*Aethan narrows his eyes, doesn’t comment. *

Jenna:  Now I’m with you on that, Echo!  Aragorn….yum…yum! Oh! Um…Aethan, in your story, what was the most memorable moment for you?

Aethan: When she broke my heart.

Echo: You were being stubborn.
Aethan: You still have years—centuries of making up to do for that.

Jenna:  So, Aethan, what is your idea of a romantic evening?

Aethan: To have the damn castle to ourselves for once.

Jenna:  *smiling* What do you do for fun?

Echo: I braid Aethan’s hair when he’s asleep. All those colors—It’s oh so pretty.
Aethan: You do what?!
Echo: uh, nothin’

Jenna:  Would you like for your writer to create a sequel for you and why or why not?

Aethan: Absolutely not!
Echo: He’s not happy about what happened in our story—
Aethan: Time to go, Echo. Before she gives our crazy writer any more ideas.
Echo smiles: Goodbye Jenna. It was nice meeting you.

*Their fading voices reach me. *

Aethan: I thought I got rid of your Aragon obsession?
Echo: *sighs* I love how you make me forget…

Thank you for coming to this great interview!  And thank you, Georgia Lyn, for allowing your characters  to come visit today!

An excerpt… after Echo gets into a dangerous all-out fight with a horde of demoniis who are after her.  Yep Aethan’s not happy at all…

“You should have never left the safety of the house, Echo. And now, you should have stayed away until I calmed down. I’m seconds away from making good on my promise.”

Her back stiffened. “I’m not some possession to be packed away because you fear it breaking. You want a relationship with me, you need to accept me for who I am.”

“At the expense of putting your life in danger? Don’t push me on this. You won’t like the trade-off.”

She bit back on the deluge that would have spewed out at his threat and said, “I don’t like you very much, right now.”

At her words, something shifted in his stance, his gaze. The chill in his eyes went into a slow burn, reminding her of a dangerous predator. He flung his T-shirt aside and prowled closer.

Hastily, she backed away. She wasn’t a fool. Whatever he planned wouldn’t be good for her. Then she met his eyes and fear gave way to anticipation. Breathing became harder, aware she’d unleashed this dangerous side of him.

“You don’t like me, do you?” He stalked her, until her back hit the wall. Hands planted on either side of her head, he locked her in. “Let’s see about that, shall we?” His eyes glowed fiercely, filled with possession. He bent his head. His nose trailed lightly down her jaw to her neck.

Echo stilled, unprepared for the sensual feeling of his lips lightly grazing her skin. The heady scent of rainstorms, his masculine heat and raw sex surrounded her. She could almost taste him on her tongue.

“Aethan,” she whispered, desire surging in her veins. If he could do that without even touching her, she truly was in trouble. But she didn’t care. She only knew if he didn’t kiss her, she would burn up from her own heat and die, and then he’d be sorry. She angled her face toward his, seeking his lips.

Soft laughter reached her ears as though he heard her thoughts. “Still don’t like me, do you?”

“Aethan, please,” she moaned, her hands sliding up the heated skin of his chest. His body was too hard, too big to tug closer. So, she grabbed his hair, wrapped the silky strands around her hand and drew his head to hers.

Absolute Surrender is available at Amazon, Black Opal Books, Kobo, ARe, Barnes & Noble, and Smashwords.

Horny Hump Day 04/03/13: 7 Days of Seduction “Like Magic” #HornyHDay

WARNING:  MATERIAL NOT SUITABLE FOR THOSE UNDER THE AGE OF 18!

NOT SAFE FOR WORK!

Participating authors in Horny Hump Day post three sentences from their published works or WIP, hot like a firecracker! LOL

April Showers made me think of my cover for

7 Days of Seduction

7-days

Ashley Thompson had a wild time at her party last Friday night. Maybe too wild. She wakes to find a video of her in the middle of a ménage a trois with her ex-boyfriend and a gorgeous stranger. Unable to remember anything about the night, other than the hot sex she sees on the computer screen, Ashley begins a search for Mr. Hunk. She has no luck until he unexpectedly shows up–in her shower.

Hunter Hopewell intends to introduce Ash to a variety of sexual experiences he finds fun and exciting. He proposes a week-long series of “colorful” encounters designed to seduce Ashley out of her kink comfort zone.

As their week of escalating pleasure intensifies, Ashley must choose to let go of her inhibitions or risk losing the best damn lover she’s ever had.

My three hot sentences for today are come from Day 2.  Ashley’s got unexpected company in the shower. Think he’ll wash her back?

canstock4331246He pulled her back into his arms, lifted her and thrust his erection all the way into her slit like magic.

The unexpected fullness strained her insides almost to bursting.  If he moved she’d explode, but damn, he felt good.

The site also gives the details of how to sign up for next week if you’d like to play with us. 🙂  Please check out the Horny Hump Day blog site for the other sites on the hop and go visit the other hot authors.

Thanks so much for visiting the Journal once more for Horny Hump Day!

Spotlight on Queen of Jastain by Kary Rader

Today I’m spotlighting my great friend and CP Kary Rader’s debut novel, Queen of Jastain.  Take a look at this gorgeous cover–now just imagine what’s inside to inspire such an image!

QoJlarge

Blurb:

The Light brought her to him, but does he have the faith to make her his queen? For twenty years, Avant plotted revenge against the dark king, but when a mysterious woman suddenly appears, everything changes. Although his prophetic Gift reveals she’s the Seed of Light chosen to restore the Crown, his overwhelming attraction to the woman threatens his long-held plan for revenge and two decades of fidelity.

Abby Randall is inexplicably transported from Dallas to the medieval land of Jastain. There she meets Avant, who claims she’s the foretold champion of his people. While the hot guy has her hormones pumping, his crazy talk of defeating an evil king leaves questions to his sanity. Through his supernatural Gift, Avant transplants his memories into her, but neither are prepared for how their hearts intertwine.

Together they embark on their quest, but when Abby and Avant come face to face with destiny, will they sacrifice what matters most to provide a happily-ever-after for the people of Jastain?

Excerpt:

When Avant climbed back to the cave, his hair was wet. He’d slicked it back from his face and tied it into a little ponytail with a leather string. The sexy shadow of a light beard softened his angular jaw, and the thick waves of his hair shined with chestnut highlights in the morning sun. It was a good look for him, but then again, what wasn’t? Abby ran her fingers through her own tangled tresses and pulled her hair back. What she wouldn’t give for a hair clip.

“Would you like a thong for your hair?”

She giggled at the word thong, certain that what she pictured was not what he referenced. “Do you have an extra one? I’d like to get it out of my face, and I don’t have anything.” Actually she had her own thong, but she sure as hell wasn’t putting it in her hair.

He immediately unlaced the tie at the neck of his shirt and handed it to her.

She gasped and put a hand to her face to hide the heat in her cheeks as his shirt fell open below his breast bone. “You don’t have to do that.”

Her blood coursed wildly at the sight of the smooth muscles of his chest. A soft sprinkling of dark hair beckoned her fingers. She swallowed hard.

“It’s all right. Please use it. It will be a hard day’s journey with hair in your face.” His words rang in her mind so sincerely she forgot her embarrassment, but her eyes kept flitting to his heavenly chest.

“Thank you, Avant, and not only for the lace but for everything you’re doing to help me.”

Holding her gaze, he nodded once, and her heart fluttered. Was it getting warm in the cave? She wiped the beads of sweat from her forehead.

“It is time to be off if we are to make it to the next shelter before nightfall.” He picked up his pack and walked to the mouth of the cave. She grabbed her bag and followed.

Climbing down proved to be more difficult than going up. The muscles required to lower herself from one level to the next worked her thighs and butt like no gym equipment she’d ever experienced. It was like doing hours of squats. She trudged down the mountain with the previous day’s tumult weighting her down like the “freshman ten.” Avant helped her along on the steeper steps, but, for the most part, she made them on her own, clippity-clopping in those damned Docinis all the way.

When he reached the bottom, he disappeared around an outcropping. Abby took the last little step to the base and hurried after him. As she turned the corner, Avant grabbed her arm and spun her around. Driving her back against the rock, he pressed the length of his rigid body against her. His face, barely three inches from hers, clenched in thin lines of stress. Her heart raced…with fear.

She was pretty sure it was fear.

Guest Author Christine Warner with Two Timing the Boss

_3272889

Thanks Jenna for letting me borrow your blog today 🙂

Every author has a favorite scene from each book they’ve written that they loved to write.  They can go back to that scene over and over again and read it, with a huge smile on their face.

When I wrote Two Timing the Boss I was lucky to have several scenes throughout that
left me smiling, some laughing out loud, some with that overall feeling that I nailed the
emotions and descriptions. I loved the setting, the dialogue, the feel from start to finish. Or I just loved the fun and humor—or the sheer craziness the heroine had to endure.

As a reader, what’s something from a scene you’ve read that makes it stick with you
long after you’ve closed the pages? Is it something to do with dialogue, the actions of the characters, the setting—or something else?

I’d love to share one of those scenes from Two Timing the Boss that really captured
that ‘feel good’ feeling for me and sent my heroine into a panic at the same time—all in
fun mind you.

Now keep in mind as you read, my heroine Farah is on a business trip with her new boss. When she applied for this coveted position, she was talked into wearing a wig, fake nails, lots of makeup, tower high heels and more to up her chances at getting the position. So she donned a disguise—a disguise she had removed to take a bath thinking her work day was done—until a knock sounded on her door.

ENJOY!

“Be right there.” She tried to keep her voice bright, not sure if she sounded

cheery, insane, or both as she hurdled over her suitcase at the foot of the bed.

Her heart beat ticked off every second of her mad dash around the hotel room.

Farah grabbed her discarded body suit from the bed. She didn’t have time to squeeze

into it. Her business suit lay beside it, crumpled. Anyway, she’d look silly answering the

door fully dressed after telling him she’d been in the bath.

Afraid he’d realize how short she actually was, she shoved her feet into her three

plus inch heels then scoffed. Yeah, that’d go over well answering the door in her thigh

length black silk robe and heels. Add bright red lipstick, a cigarette dangling from her

lips and a mattress strapped to her back to further his suspicions and come off looking

like someone other than his competent personal assistant.

Keller pounded on the door again. His irritation at having to wait reflected in the

firm spacing of fist against metal.

She groaned and flew toward the bathroom, remembering the complimentary robe

the hotel provided. As she rounded the door her knee banged against the frame. “Ouch.

Damn.” Farah blinked back tears. She rubbed her knee, the reddening skin tender.

Great. Now she’d not only have these wonderful memories of her mad laps around her

hotel room, but a big, fat, ugly bruise as a souvenir when she got home.

“You okay in there?” Keller no longer sounded annoyed, but concerned.

“Yeah. I’m fine.” If only she could shove the file and papers under the door.

“Almost done.”

Farah slid her arms through the extra large terry cloth robe. The bulk probably

made her look like a bedraggled housewife; sponge curls would complete her look.

About Two Timing the Boss

Farah Smith is on a mission: secure the funds for her twin sister’s surgery. She’ll do whatever it takes to succeed. Even if that means putting her values aside to work for a man she finds morally bankrupt. But when the real Farah meets her new boss, she wonders if she’ll be able to resist his sexy advances long enough to help her sister.

From the blonde wig, to the stilettos strapped around her ankles, Farah’s a clone of Keller Donovan’s harem of past assistants. She can’t believe she’s let herself be talked into the disguise, let alone working for the man planning to demolish the hospital her sister so desperately needs, but the salary he offers is the only way she’ll be able to afford her sister’s surgery. The moment Farah meets Keller she realizes her most daunting task isn’t typing, spreadsheets or organizing travel arrangements, but fighting the growing attraction toward a man whose ruthlessness is legendary in the boardroom as well as the bedroom.

Determined not to end up in a disastrous marriage like his divorced parents, Keller believes all relationships should have a shelf life of sixth months or less. But when he meets Farah, all bets are off. He not only wants her to continue as his personal assistant, but his own private bed warmer. Unfortunately, his offer of an affair doesn’t sit well with her fairytale dreams or the strangled hold gripping his heart.

Weekend Writing Warriors: 03/31/13 Betrothal: “Vengeance”

WEEKEND WRITING WARRIORS

Welcome back to the Weekend Writing Warriors again. I’m so enjoying seeing my old friends and finding new authors. Hope you all have a great hop!

Betrothal with Logo

Today you get more from Betrothal, my medieval romance set in the 14th century.   In this snippet, a continuation of yesterday’s Sweet Saturday Sample, Alyse and Geoffrey have stormed off after their quarrel.  Geoffrey is heading back to the source of the trouble.

If you want more, please come back next week! 🙂  Right now, you can click here to hop on to more Writing Warrior posts!  And thanks for coming by!
