Welcome back to another week’s installment of Jenna’s 411!  I know I’ve been away for a while, but life has just taken me all over the place, as you’ll see below!

Book Chat ~ Crashing Through Time Releases

CrashingIntoLove3DBoxSetTwo weeks early, the boxed set I’m part of, Crashing  Into Love, released late last night!  Whoo Hoo! That makes three releases for me in 16 days. I’m stunned!

This is set is really the bomb. 7 stories of survival and love from best-selling authors D’Ann Lindun, Daryl Devore, Lisa Kumar, Brenda Dyer, Melissa Keir, Deb Julienne, and yours truly.

Here’s the blurb:  Seven planes lift off…seven planes crash…seven stories of struggle, passion and love in the barren Canadian Wilderness, the coast of England, or the steamy heat of a tropical island. Romance hangs in the balance between survival and death.

And here’s the blurb for my novella, Crashing Through Time:

More than hearts can be broken when you crash through time.

Corrine MacGowan survives a plane crash only to fall down a hole in time. In 1868 Cornwall she faces the ultimate decision: Let the man she loves die, or save him and change history forever.

If you want to read more , it’s available at Amazon for only .99! Grab your copy today!

On the Home Front ~  Happy Birthday, Ellie!

Ellie BirthdayYesterday was my daughter’s birthday. We celebrated by going to a sushi restaurant for lunch, then taking her to see the new Melissa McCarthy movie Spy (which I quite enjoyed) then had ice cream cake and sparkling cider afterwards. As a little kicker Crashing Through Time, which is dedicated to her, released on her birthday.

Jenna Fun Fact of the Week

jurassic-world-own-raptors-posterI was one of the millions of people who were thrilled to death on the opening weekend of Jurassic World. I went with  my daughters on Friday, and we all just loved it. There were some scenes I didn’t watch, but over all, I thought it was a great thrill ride.  It may even have moved into my #1 slot for the Jurassic Park movies, even though I loved Jurassic Park 3. Let’s just say I’d spend money to go see JW again on the big screen. 🙂

Have you seen it yet?

So, how’s your week been?

Medieval Monday ~ The Heart of the Phoenix by Barbara Bettis

Today my guest on Medieval Monday is Barbara Bettis with her medieval romance, The Heart of the Phoenix. Hope you enjoy!

BARBARA BETTIS

Blurb:

Some call him a ruthless mercenary; she calls him the knight of her heart Memories  Lady Evelynn’s childhood hero is home—bitter, hard, tempting as sin. And haunted by secrets. A now-grown Evie offers friendship, but Sir Stephen’s cruel rejection crushes her, and she resolves to forget him. Yet when an unexpected war throws them together, she finds love isn’t so easy to dismiss. If only the king hadn’t betrothed her to another.  Can be cruel

Sir Stephen lives a double life while he seeks the treacherous outlaws who murdered his friends. Driven by revenge, he thinks his heart is closed to love. His childhood shadow, Lady Evie, unexpectedly challenges that belief. He rebuffs her, but he can’t forget her, although he knows she’s to wed the king’s favorite.  And deadly

When his drive for vengeance leads to Evie’s kidnapping, Stephen must choose between retribution and the love he’s denied too long. Surely King John will see reason. Convict the murderers; convince the king. Simple. Until a startling revelation threatens everything.

Excerpt:

“I don’t believe you heard me, Sir Stephen.” Evie’s words dripped honey. “I’m going home on orders of my brother. If the travelers Davy were to join haven’t appeared, then he can accompany me.” She shot a glance toward the youth, deep in conversation with the maid.

The back of Stephen’s neck tingled, and he clenched his hands. God’s blood, she made him so angry he longed to grab those soft arms and shake some sense into her.

“You are not remaining at the monastery, and you are not traveling to England.” His words came out in a growl. He stepped forward, and she tilted back her head to meet him eye to eye. “Must I tie you to that horse?”

She leaned in. “Just you try, Sir Stephen-the-Bully.”

He glared and crossed his arms against his chest, daring her to continue.

“Do as you think you must.” She echoed his stance, her crossed arms pushing her plump breasts higher.

Not that he noticed, blast her.

“I vow I will return the moment I’m free,” she added. “You have no authority over my movements, for you are no relative of mine.”

“And I thank God for it. How Henry has put up with you all these years I do not know. A more troublesome, contentious wi…woman I’ve never seen.”

“Did you call me a witch?”

Weekend Writing Warriors ~ 6/14/15 Only Marriage Will Do

weekend_writing_warriors_header3

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors!

The problem with having two books release back to back is that you never know which one to promote first! But this past week was Only Marriage Will Do‘s release week, so I’ve put up another 10 lines from it.

Marriage 2

I’m starting at the beginning of Chapter 2, where Amiable is about to take action against St. Cyr’s claim to Juliet:

Blood roared in Amiable’s ears, as though he stood in the heat of battle. He drew his sword and lunged, aiming to skewer the Frenchman through the stomach. “The law will matter not at all if you are dead, St. Cyr.”

St. Cyr grasped the knob of his walking stick and pulled a thin blade free just in time to parry the thrust. He then scampered for the door, calling out in English, “This is not the end of this, Juliet. I will return with the authorities and make you see reason.”

As the viscount fled the room, Amiable scrambled after him.

“Let him go.” Juliet tugged his arm.

Only Marriage Will Do is available here.

That’s all for this week. Hope you enjoyed it!

And don’t forget to check out the rest of the Warriors here.  There’s some fantastic snippets to be read.

Spotlight on Skye Warren and Better When It Hurts

A forbidden romance about pain that binds us together…Five years ago we lived in the same house. He was the ultimate bad boy.

And my foster brother.

Now he’s back. Tougher, harder, meaner. All of it aimed at me, because I was the one who sent him away. It’s payback time. He wants his pound of flesh, and I am helpless to say no.

EXCERPT

The door slams open, and Blue strides into the room. A burst of sound follows him in the seconds before the door swings shut. I shrink back against the lockers before I can help it. That doesn’t stop him. It doesn’t even slow him down as he steps right into my space, just inches from my face, still breathing hard.

“What the fuck are you doing here?” His eyes are still wild from the fight, violence and victory mixed together.

I try not to flinch. “I wanted to…to talk to you about something.”

“How did you know I was fighting tonight?”

I’m not going to tell on Candy, even if he’ll figure it out as soon as he sees her here. Instead I bite my lip and try to remember the speech I was going to give him. “Congratulations?”

That wasn’t it.

He shakes his head. “No, Lola. This isn’t one of your little games. I’m not one of the men you can lead around by my dick. Not anymore.”

And then I do flinch, because the reminder of our past is too painful not to. “I’m not trying to lead you anywhere,” I whisper.

His lips curve into a cold smile. “No? You brought me here, didn’t you? Just you and me and the rest of the world locked out. You made that happen.”

Something pricks my eyes—tears. No no no. I can’t possibly cry in front of him. I don’t know why I’d cry at all. This is my life. I’m long past wishing for something different, aren’t I? I look down at the concrete floor so he won’t see me struggle.

Of course he doesn’t accept that. His fingers—sweaty and gloveless—lift my chin. “Why’d you come here, Lola?” His voice is suddenly lower and strangely seductive. Maybe that’s how fucked-up I’ve gotten, that cruelty turns me on. “What do you want?”

My fingers fumble as I pull the wallet from my back pocket. It’s still warm from my body as I hold it up. “This is yours. I stole it. I—I took it by accident.”

That wasn’t what I’d meant to say at all. I’d meant to explain the situation like it happened—that I’d woken up with the wallet in my bed. That I had no memory of it, but obviously there had been a mistake. I’d taken nothing from the wallet, no harm no foul.

Instead I’d stuttered like I was thirteen again, stealing everything I could slip into my pockets, confessing to my foster dad before he whipped me with his belt.

Blue takes the wallet from me, his expression speculative. It’s almost as if he’s never seen it before, even though I know it belongs to him. I rifled through his things, touched the stone-faced plastic image on his license. And he knows I invaded his privacy that way, just like I invaded his pocket when he brought me home.

He tosses the wallet onto a bench behind him, dismissing it. His hand lands on the locker beside me, blocking me in. His eyes meet mine. “You still steal.”

“No,” I say, but his wallet calls me a liar. Naturally he’d remember the worst thing about me. I’d helped him remember. “Not anymore. Not usually except…I must have been drunk or something.”

“You didn’t used to drink.”

“A lot’s changed.” I used to hate the taste of beer. It reminded me too much of foster brothers with groping hands and tongues. I still couldn’t touch the stuff, but every now and then I used alcohol to try and numb the pain. It was just a shame it never worked.

His gaze scans my body, unapologetic as it measures me, probes me, demands all my secrets. “I can see that.”

I shrug, pretending to be unaffected. No, I am unaffected, damn it. “You see more than this every night.”

“Less. When you’re naked up there onstage, that’s what you show to every man.” His eyes are hooded. “This is what you wore for me.”

Release Day for Only Marriage Will Do!

At last!  My second Georgian/Regency romance, Only Marriage Will Do, releases today!

Marriage 2

There are so many traditions linked to weddings. Possibly the most enduring is the notion that the bride must wear “something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue.” I remember doing all those at my wedding. My gown was new, my handkerchief old, I borrowed my shoes, and my garter was blue. 🙂 The English add the phrase “and tuppence in her shoe,” and I had that as well from a trip to England I’d made years before.

NECKLACEOne tradition all the women in my generation on my father’s side of the family followed was carrying a handkerchief or some sort of lace detailing made from the lace of our grandmother’s wedding dress (thus my old handkerchief). And I guess all of those things worked because in a week or so my husband and I will celebrate our 24th wedding anniversary!

I can only wish Amiable and Juliet as much of a happy-ever-after as I have had. But as the tagline for the book states: Not all happy-ever-afters begin at “I do.” And that is certainly the case with these two!

In celebration, I’m giving away an e-copy of Only Marriage Will Do to a commenter who tells me about a wedding tradition they followed or that they know of others following for their wedding.

BLURB:

Not every happy-ever-after begins at “I do.”

When the hero of her dreams rescues Lady Juliet Ferrers from the man claiming to be her husband, she is sure she has found her one true love. But is she free to marry him? Not to be deterred, Juliet arranges for her hero, Captain Amiable Dawson, to escort her to her family estate, hoping that along the way she can win his love.

Amiable is charmed by the sweet, beautiful woman he rescued, and although he has grave reservations about her marital status, he allows himself to be swept up into Juliet’s romantic spell and the promise of a happy-ever-after.

The spell breaks when legal questions arise and Juliet faces the horror of not knowing if she is married to her knight in shining armor or the cruel viscount who is determined to have her at any price.

EXCERPT:

London July 2, 1761

The brass lion-head knocker under Amiable Dawson’s hand sent a sharp rap through theRINGS dark walnut door of Dunham House for the second time. The hot July sun hadn’t done his temper any good as he waited on the marble stoop for entrance to the Marquess of Dalbury’s townhouse. He’d been in a foul mood ever since the news of his beloved Katarina’s marriage to the marquess had reached him. Blast it to hell, he was supposed to have married the girl. At least he could make sure she was well and well taken care of by this man she had married.

At last a short, dark-haired maid opened the door. She took one look at him, gasped, and stepped back into the house. Her eyes widened and she glanced to her right, wringing her hands. “Who may I say—”

A man shouted from within. “No, I do not believe you.”

“It is true, I tell you!” A woman’s voice, raised and sharp with terror, sent a chill through Amiable.

Katarina. What in God’s name?

He barged past the stunned girl and strode down the hall toward the commotion. He burst through the doorway, expecting to defend the woman he loved, only to stop dead at the sight of a man lunging across a sofa and grasping a woman by the wrist. Amiable had half drawn his sword before he realized the woman was not Katarina, but a complete stranger. He dropped it back into its scabbard. This was none of his affair.

The young man, foppishly dressed in a robin’s egg blue satin coat dripping too many layers of frothy lace at throat and wrists looked at Amiable, a snarl on his lips.

Taking advantage of the distraction, the woman wrenched her arm from the man’s grip. “Praise God. Here he is.” She staggered as she righted herself. “Now you will have to believe me, Philippe.”

The fop scrambled back off the sofa and groped for a black lacquer walking stick that lay on the floor. Lips pressed together, he glowered at the woman. “That remains to be seen, ma chere. In any case, I have shown you the papers. They speak for themselves.”

The woman ran from behind the sofa to Amiable’s side, grazed a kiss over his cheek and whispered, “For God’s sake, help me. I am alone here and he is trying to take me away. Please, agree with whatever I say.”

Smiling into her pleading face, he grasped her hands and gave them a gentle squeeze to signal his acquiescence. “Whatever is the matter, my dear?” Hell if he knew. But he could play his part, even with little information. Let the lady lead and he’d follow as well as he could.

The woman smiled then took a deep breath. “My dear, may I present Viscount St. Cyr?” She nodded toward the fop. “Philippe, this is my husband, the Earl of Manning.”

Only Marriage Will Do is available at AmazonB& N, and other e-tailers.

Excerpt:

She took another step and past the stone marker.

The air chilled and the sky turned an array of colors. Everything around her began to swirl. She realized her mistake too late. The portal, she was in the portal.

Arik. Close to him now, she reached for him but her hand passed through the form. She examined her hand turning it over then spotted the shadow of the man.

An illusion?

The shadow turned towards her. She watched as the wind washed over his face and it changed. “Bran,” she whispered in disbelief. Her head swiveled while she searched for something, anything to grab on to. The portal had one use and she had no intention of leaving.

Get out, her brain shouted.

His lips twisted into a cynical sneer. He tilted his head in jaunty satisfaction, snapped his fingers and vanished.

“No,” she yelled. “Arik,” she closed her eyes and screamed in her head trying to mind touch him while the wind tore at her.

“Beka,” he boomed.

Her eyes snapped open. She shielded them from the dust and debris and stared at Arik on the other side of the opening. He stood at the high plateau, miles away. His hands were braced on the opening’s edges, which were nothing more than solid streams of whirling wind. He struggled to keep the portal from closing.

“Come.” His voice didn’t allow for any argument.

The wind whipped at her, pushed her back. She tried again. “I can’t. The wind. Keeps. Pushing. Me. Away.” She shoved her staff in front of her and anchored it in the ground. Against the gusting wind, pulled herself towards him.

“A little more, Beka.” He gripped the edge of the portal with one hand and stretched the other out to her. She shoved her hand towards him as far as she could. The tips of their fingers brushed. In a burst of effort he Hecaught the top of her hand, a precarious hold. With a tight grasp she wrapped her fingers around his thumb.

Safe, she wasn’t far now.

She concentrated on his face. The corners of his mouth turned up as he pulled her towards safety. The wind grew stronger buffeting around them then changed its path.

Before she could brace herself for the new direction, the gust blasted them. Without a firm grip, her hand began to slip. She pushed through the building panic. His smile slipped. The expression on his face turned to determination. Again her hand slipped until he held her by her fingertips.

He held them fast—crushing them but that didn’t matter. He had to hold on to her. Every muscle strained. Inch by inch he brought her closer to him. She tried to help him the best way she could. Anchored to the edge of the portal, Arik encouraged her on. But his alternatives were limited. The closer she got to him, the stronger the gale blew. Just a little closer, that’s all she needed for Arik to grab her and get her out of the portal.

The wind exploded from another direction.

The blasting gale pushed her staff away from the opening, across the dirt, cutting an ugly scar in the ground and dragging her away with her staff.

Away from Arik.

weekend_writing_warriors_header3

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors!

At long last, my erotic medieval novella, Beloveds, has released!

Beloveds

This week for Weekend Writing Warriors, I hope you enjoy this section at the end of Chapter 1 where Thomas and Alyse are enjoying one another thoroughly.

“Oh, Thomas, yes, my love, yes, yes!”

He plunged into her, each “yes” seeming to compel him to push harder and deeper. Would that he would never stop.

And still the pleasure radiated from her innermost core. “Oh, Thomas. Thomas!

As her body shook in a torrent of passion, the door opened. She jerked her head toward it, making the room spin. A final shudder took her, and she relaxed onto the bed, her limbs heavy and sated. With great effort, she raised her head and looked into the wide, deep blue eyes of Geoffrey Longford.

BLURB:

Passion never dies.

Lady Alyse Braedon frets over her renewed passion for Sir Geoffrey Longford, her first love. They have pledged their hearts to one another, despite the fact that both are recently widowed. Alyse worries that she has not properly mourned Thomas and cannot think herself as true wife to Geoffrey until she puts her feelings for her first husband to rest.

And then Thomas unaccountably appears in her bedroom. She is stunned and confused. When he begins to make love to her, however, she joyfully surrenders herself to his familiar caresses and expert ministrations…until Geoffrey arrives.

Faced with the dilemma of wanting two lovers, Alyse simply cannot choose–until Thomas suggests she doesn’t have to. Instead he and Geoffrey will share her. The scandalous proposition awakens new hungers within her. Can she allow herself to abandon all she’s been taught a proper woman should resist, and find pleasure with both her beloveds?

Beloveds is available at Amazon and free on Kindle Unlimited.

That’s all for this week. Hope you enjoyed it!

SIZZLING SUMMER READS 2015

Welcome to your next stop on the Sizzling Summer Reads Party tour! I’m Jenna Jaxon and I’m showing off my newest release, Only Marriage Will Do, a great read for those lazy days at the beach. Get lost in this hot historical romance!

Marriage 2

BLURB FOR ONLY MARRIAGE WILL DO

EXCERPT:

At the touch of his fingers on her cheek, Juliet lost her battle with the tears. She had sworn not to shed a single one over him, but now they flooded her face as the ache in her chest reached a terrible crescendo.

“Juliet, my dear.”

As the first sob tore from her throat, he scooped her up, bore her over to the parlor’s sofa, and settled her in his lap. “Juliet, do not cry, my love. You break my heart.”

He pressed her head to his chest, heedless of the torrent that soaked into his jacket.

She could not stop, however. The misery at what she intended to do overwhelmed her. She must send him away, she must.

Her cries intensified, banishment from Amiable a sentence too terrible to contemplate. The pain cut so deep for a brief moment she wished to die just to escape it. Finally, she managed to stem the tide to a trickle. Soul-wrenching grief gave way to bleak despair. She lay exhausted on his broad chest, too tired now to even move her head.

“My dear,” he spoke quietly into her ear. “What has happened to make you so unhappy?”

She struggled up, trying to catch her breath. She risked a glance at him and wished she hadn’t. Tears threatened again. “I…I c-came to tell you I no longer r-require your services as escort, Captain Dawson.” There. She had said it. “You may return to London on the morrow, sir.”

“I see.” He held her steady with one hand while the other pushed back a stray wisp of hair straggling from her coiffure. “That would be a most prudent move.” He captured another escaping strand and stroked it into place behind her ear, then wiped her tears away with his thumb.

Could he not see her misery? Would he add to it with his kindness? Such attentions made it almost impossible to continue with her resolve.

“However, I do not think I will go, my lady, if it is all the same to you.”

She fought to keep her composure. “I, however, no longer require your escort, sir. I will journey on alone.”

Amiable smiled patiently but shook his head. “I fear not, my dear.”

“I will.” She tried to pull away from his grasp but he held her still.

“Most definitely not.” He wrapped his hand around the back of her head, urging her face closer to his.

“Wh—what are you doing, Captain Dawson?” His blue eyes were her whole world.

“Bowing to the inevitable, my love.” Then his mouth met hers.

Only Marriage Will Do, Book  2 in The House of Pleasure series, will release June 9th.

Release Day for Beloveds!

At long last, Beloveds, an erotic novella in the Time Enough to Love world, is finally released. Some books just take longer to write than others. This was one of them for me. At one point I thought I shouldn’t write it at all, but was persuaded to persevere. I am very glad I took their advice. It was a labor of love in very many ways.

So here is Beloveds, a novella for Alyse, Thomas, and Geoffrey, the three main characters of Time Enough to Love. I hope you enjoy it.

Beloveds

Beloveds is available at Amazon and is part of Kindle Unlimited and Kindle Select.

***SPOILER ALERT***

The timeline of Beloveds occurs during the final third of Time Enough to Love (Beleaguered) and includes spoilers if you have not read the trilogy. It will stand on its own if you haven’t read the books, but will hopefully please those who already know the characters.

EXCERPT:

“Alyse.”

The familiar voice tugged at the edges of wakefulness. Had Geoffrey returned so soon? The sound did not have his deep tone. Yet ’twas a voice she knew well, rich and sensual.

“Do not fret, sweet.”

Alyse struggled to open her eyes, though the heavy lids fought against her.

The bed dipped as someone sat beside her. Oh, thank the Lord. Geoffrey had returned. Although she would have sworn it had not been he who spoke.

A soft hand cupped her face, and she pressed her cheek against it, luxuriating in its warmth. She smiled, and her eyes fluttered open at last.

The man seated on the bed had shoulder-length honey-blond hair and warm, beguiling brown eyes. He also defied fashion and wore a thin mustache and beard. His eyes brightened when he noticed she was awake and his mouth turned up in the lazy smile she had come to know so very well.

“Thomas.” The name came out a croak. Holy Father, had she conjured him with her guilt and longing? She cowered against the mattress.

His smile widened, and he caressed her, running one long finger along her jaw. “Aye, sweet Alyse. ’Tis I. Do you feel better now, my love?”

“Better?” She must be dying to see such an apparition. Or mayhap she was already dead and in heaven.

“Aye. You do not shiver as you did a moment ago. I hoped that meant you felt warmer.” He picked up her hand and kissed the knuckles.

Warmth flowed through her, soothing her, making her body tingle with that single touch of his lips.

“Is it really you?” Strength welled within her, and she struggled to sit up.

“As ever I was.” He smiled, his gaze sweeping her body. His eyes darkened with the desire she remembered well.

“Oh, Thomas.” She threw her arms around him, sighing when they embraced the hard-muscled chest she had lain so oft upon. “I thought you dead, my love. Did I but dream?”

“Shhh, my sweet. I am here now.” He stroked her head then pulled it back to peer into her face. “I will always be with you, love.” He sank his mouth onto hers, and she melted at the touch of his insistent lips.

Like coming home.
