Jenna’s Snippet Sundays ~ As Long As You’re Mine: Ruination

Welcome back to  Jenna’s Snippet Sundays. In lieu of a blog hop, there’s just me with snippets from my current release or hopefully my next WIP.

Today I’m continuing with another snippet from my most recent release, As Long As You’re Mine. This snippet begins where last week’s left off. (If you need to catch up, last week’s post is here.)

BLURB:

A scandalous mistake…or a wicked way to happiness?

Hoping to compromise herself, Lady Amantha Easton sneaks into the bedroom of her would-be suitor only to find a total stranger there—a totally handsome, charming stranger to be sure—but not at all the man she plans to marry. She leaves his room with her reputation intact—barely—only to fall victim to the gentleman’s charms in a public place. Now Amantha must face the fate she’s tried to avoid—marriage to a man who will never love her.

All Rafael Beauregard wanted was a warm bed and a good night’s sleep…but what he got was an unexpected romp with a beautiful vixen and a fiery kiss that left him wanting more. An excellent trade, except now he’s got to marry Lady Amantha, one of the most willful women he’s ever met. So Rafe’s challenge is to persuade her that marriage to him might be the best thing for them both…once he convinces himself.

EXCERPT:

“It really was a compliment,” he said, pulling the covers back and raised his eyebrows invitingly. “Are you sure you won’t join me?”

Before she could answer with a resounding no, faint voices outside the door drew her attention.

“You say you left my daughter here?” Her father’s voice was unmistakable, even through the closed door.

“Dear God.” Amantha made a grab for her robe. “Can you cover yourself or put something on?”

“I hardly think that will help very much,” he replied, throwing off the covers and slithering out of the bed. He padded to the armoire, his bare backside in full view.

“What are you doing?” Amantha hissed, jabbing her arm into the sleeve of her robe and missing it entirely. Why must everything fall apart just as they were about to be discovered?

“I’m putting something on as requested.” He pulled the door open, grabbed a shirt, and snaked it over his head.

“Yes, milord. She said her cousin was sick and to fetch you here directly.”

“Well, this is not Lord Abercrombie’s room, I can tell you that much.” A distinctive strong voice that was not her father’s came through clearly.

Dear God. Father had brought Lord Armstrong with him. Ruin was now truly assured.

A booming knock sounded on the door. “Rafael? Are you there? May I come in?”

Amantha froze, one arm in her robe. Here was the ruination for which she’d been praying. Unfortunately, God wasn’t answering her prayers in the way she’d intended.

“Quick.” Mr. Beauregard grabbed her hand and jerked her toward the bed. “Get in there and hide under the pillows. I’ll take care of them, and afterward you can slip out of the room.”

One stricken look at the bed, and Amantha shook her head. “That won’t work. I’ll hide underneath.” She dropped to the floor and tried to scoot under the bed, only to find her way blocked by a trundle bed. “Damnation.”

That’s one intense scene! Everything that could possibly go wrong is going wrong.

It’s really a shame Weekend Writing Warriors appears to be retired. I had so much fun discovering other writers through it. Next week I’ll start sharing snippets from my books on my blog to join you in keeping the spirit alive.
