Six Sentence Sunday–09/09/12 Only Scandal Will Do

In celebration of the release of my new book trailer for Only Scandal Will Do, I’m offering six sentences from my historical romance.  If you’d like to view the trailer, click here.

This snippet takes place shortly after the excerpt I posted in Sweet Saturday Sample yesterday.  Lady Katarina and the Marquess of Dalbury have met “by chance” at a ball.  Katarina is less than impressed with the man who bought her at the House of Pleasure.

The musicians chose that moment to tune up for the next set and he asked, “Will you dance the next with me?”

Despite his pleading look, she chuckled and shook her head, saying “Lord Dalbury, there is nothing you could say that would compel me to dance with you.” She pulled her hand free just as Jack presented himself to her.

“Well, Kat, will you do me the honor of this dance?”

“I am sorry, Lord Manning,” Dalbury interrupted, before she could even open her mouth, “but I am afraid I have just engaged your charming sister as my partner for this set.” Dalbury smiled winningly at Jack.

Thanks so much for visiting me today.  Now pop over to the Six Sentence Sunday list and check out the rest of the snippets.  They’re fantastic!

Sweet Saturday Sample: 9/08/12 Only Scandal Will Do

Welcome back to Sweet Saturday Sample!  All excerpts here are rated PG-13 or milder.

Yesterday I revealed my brand new book trailer for Only Scandal Will Do, so today I’m posting a new sample from Scandal for Sweet Saturday Sample .  The trailer was created by the fantastically talented Danielle Fine.  I absolutely love it!  Take a look, then continue on to my sample.

ONLY SCANDAL WILL DO TRAILER

Before she sails back to Virginia, Katarina agrees to a night out on the town with her brother.  They end the night at a ball given by Lord and Lady Braeton.

Lady Braeton steered Kat toward several young swains with the purpose of making introductions. Kat was flattered at the attention, as she had been all night. First her brother had insisted they go to Lady Grangerly’s crush, then Lady Harcourt’s rout, and now the Braeton’s ball. Everywhere she was introduced, complimented, made to feel a welcome part of ton society. She accepted a glass of champagne from one of the young men she’d just met. If only March fifteenth had been a dream, life would be very sweet right now.

Jack was still talking to Lord Braeton, but another young man, taller than Jack and rather lean under his excellently cut green velvet coat, had joined the two men. Kat turned her head away and appraised him from the corner of her eye. Dark blond hair, or maybe golden brown. And a well-muscled leg. He must be part of this horsey set Jack had told her about. A fine figure of a man. Why was she now taking notice of men when she was bound for one three thousand miles away? She smiled at the notion.

Jack motioned her to return to him and handed her glass to a passing servant. As she neared the group, the young man in green glanced up and stopped, seemed arrested at the sight of her. His eyes widened. Had they already met? His face seemed familiar. Something about the chin, perhaps?

She was almost upon the group when the young man finished turning toward her. He stared at her with eyes so dark brown they were almost black. Three thin, purplish scars marred his left cheek.

The floor of the ballroom buckled beneath Katarina’s feet and Lord Braeton’s hand shot out to steady her. The music stopped and her tortured breathing sounded harsh in her ears. She supposed her face paled, for her hands grew numb with cold and she swallowed convulsively several times, trying with all her hard-earned discipline not to vomit before the assembly. She clasped her hands to stop them from shaking.

Jack looked inquisitively at her but said only, “Lady Katarina Fitzwilliam, I wish to make known to you the Marquess of Dalbury.”

“A chance meeting brings them together.”  But is it really chance?

I hope you enjoyed this latest sample from  Only Scandal Will Do.  Stop by SSS tomorrow for six more sentences from Scandal.   And today be sure to click here to visit more Sweet Samples.

Welcome Blog Tour Guest Lia Davis and Ravished Before Sunrise

I am so pleased to welcome Lia Davis today as guest blogger on Jenna’s Journal.  She’s got a real treat for us, talking about writing erotic and her recent release Ravished Before Sunrise.

When I started my writing career, I never thought I’d venture down the erotic romance road. I had never read it before and was among those who thought erotic romance was all sex. But during my research of the different genres of romance I discover that was far from the truth.

Erotic romance is romance with hotter and more frequent sex scenes with explicit language. But the main plot still focuses on the romance between the couple and has a happily ever after, or, in some cases in series, a happy for now ending.

Ravished Before Sunrise is my first erotic romance. It won’t be my last. J Since writing it and going through the edits, I found I can’t not write erotic sex scenes. I love the sensuality and the connection between the couple and the freedom of writing it. I’m free to use words that make some people blush. In fact they would make me blush to speak out loud. LOL. That’s what is so great about writing. I can create worlds and scenes that I would never see or do.

Thanks so much for having me over.

You are so welcome, Lia.  My pleasure.

About the Author:

Lia Davis is a mother to two young adults and two very special, equally different
kitty cats. She’s a wife to her soul mate, who drives her crazy during editing/
revisions. She and her family live in Northeast Florida battling hurricanes and
very humid summers. But it’s her home and she loves it!

An accounting major, Lia has always been a dreamer with a very activity
imagination. The wheels in her head never stop. She only recently became
serious about publishing her work and loves it more than she imagined. Writing

is a stress reliever that allows her to go off in her corner of the house and enter
into another world she created, leaving the day job where it belongs.

Her favorite things are spending time with family, traveling, reading, writing, chocolate, coffee, nature
and hanging out with her kitties.

Blurb for Ravished Before Sunrise:

Born with the unusual ability to see what truly lies in the
shadows, Emalee Black is stuck between two worlds, the
paranormal and the human. Neither one accepts or
understands her and she’s forced to live a quiet, boring life in
hiding. When her best friend mentions 1Night Stand dating
service, Ema chooses a role-playing adventure straight out of
her romantic fantasies. She’s to hunt her very own vampire
and have her wicked way him.

Vampire Darian Wyman is surprised when his daughter signs
him up for a one-night stand with an exclusive matching
agency. At first he’s appalled by the idea, but as he reads the
details of the date he becomes intrigued. For one night he will
get away from the life he has long grown tired of to be hunted
and captured by a would-be huntress. But he has plans of his
own for his little vixen.

However, when Darian discovers the truth about Ema’s
inhuman abilities, the date could end before it gets started.

Excerpt for Ravished Before Sunrise:

Emalee’s pulse raced as she drummed her fingers on her desk and searched the website. A giddiness
she hadn’t known since senior prom ran through her. The site claimed unlimited possibilities, a chance
for adventure. Could they mean it? Because she’d already seen things beyond what humans deemed
possible. Hell, her whole existence was unimaginable.

Her life had taken a lonesome turn when a friend she hadn’t seen since high school noted how much
younger than the rest of her classmates she looked. Her long-lasting youth had become a liability.
Drawing too much attention to her unusual gift wouldn’t prove wise. In some cases, it could get her
killed. With no alternative, she’d closed the door on her life among humans and moved into the local
witch coven, where everyone was different.

“What will you do?” Her best friend since preschool, a coven member in good standing, sat next to her
for moral support and encouragement. Ema didn’t need much encouragement. The second Beth had
mentioned a one-night stand, she’d been hooked. And Madame Eve’s dating service would save her
from dying of boredom, at least for one night.

But could she go through with it? A wicked smile tugged at her lips and her inner voice said, “Hell, yeah.”
Human strangers gave her a sense of safety. They knew nothing about her past or her unusual abilities.

“Just one night?”

Lia will give away a $5 Starbucks GC, Starbucks Via sample pack, and a swag pack to one winner at the end of the tour.

His cock, hard and hot, prodded against her. The ripping plastic and snick of latex unrolling conjured the vision of his dick, now matching her red thong, bobbing in the air directly behind her butt. He leaned forward, sliding the length of it up her crack, causing Ashley to moan and grip the desk harder.

This is one working lunch!  Hope you enjoyed!  Come back for more delight on Sunday!

Blog Tour Special Guest: Erykah Wyck ~ Write What You Know

Today I’m welcoming fellow Decadent Publishing erotic author Erykah Wyck to Jenna’s Journal as she tours her newest release Night of the Doms, part of Decadent Publishing’s Edge series.

Erykah’s going to talk about one of the principle rules of writing–write what you know.

Number one rule of thumb in writing, for me anyway, is write what you know. Although I love places like Japan or Venice I have never been there personally thus it would be hard for me to write about the places. I could research and read up on the area but then it would lake in my writing (I won’t speak for other) a personal touch. There is something about being able to talk about shops down certain streets or the flavor of the place and its people.

The same goes for the BDSM lifestyle. If you have never felt the sting of a whip against your bare skin, however light or hard, it would be hard to explain and understand what the appeal could possibly be. And certainly it’s not a lifestyle for everyone…after all variety is the spice of life.

I had an editor once tell me how much she hated reading romance and I thought how can you edit something to the genre if you don’t read it or even like it? How fair is that to the readers or the author? So my advice to authors is write what you like and what you know. Research it the best way you can and readers read what you enjoy don’t let anyone sway you from reading what brings a smile to your face. It doesn’t matter if it’s sweet or erotic. Nice thing about e-books is no can see your cover.

READ ON!!!!!

Take one submissive with separation anxiety.

Add one master who has never wanted to settle down.

Mix in three Doms with specialties that make people’s toes curl.

And you have a recipe for Sex, Bondage and Orgasmic release.

Can Reyes heal and restore Ginny’s sense of security? Or will a night of Doms prove too much for her to endure?

Excerpt:

But first she had to prove to him as well as to herself that she could trust again. After a quick glance at the clock on the wall, he stood. His heels clicked on the tiled floor, echoing through the Spartan room. With the exception of the St. Andrews’ Cross, and the chair he’d vacated, only a daybed sat in the corner. Unlike the voyeur rooms on the main floor, this was a private space on the lower level of the club. A bouncer stood guard in the hallway to ensure the privacy of the guests within.

She tilted her face in the direction of his sound. He held his hand centimeters above her skin, close enough to feel her heat. He would see if she could prove to both him and herself she had the ability to trust. After a year of working and earning her faith, everything came down to what happened now. Did she have the confidence in him to take care of her needs and wants, to be what she required, and to know that her submissiveness to him would be cherished as a supreme gift?

Leaning over her, he whispered, “Do as you’re told and trust in me.

Thank you so much for being a guest on Jenna’s Journal today, Erykah.  I wish you the best of luck with your release!

“I thought we were swimming laps.”

“Change of plans–lay back on the deck.”

She complied and looked into the deep purple of the evening sky, stars winking into existence as the sun set. Then Hunter’s face hove into sight.

He opened her thighs and dribbled oil from a bottle onto his shaft.

“How do you want me?”

Thanks so much for visiting me today.  Now pop over to the Six Sentence Sunday list and check out the rest of the snippets.  They’re fantastic!

Sweet Saturday Sample: 9/01/2 Time Enough To Love–Betrothal “A Stir of Desire”

If you are looking for the Romancing the Hop post, click here.

Welcome back to Sweet Saturday Sample!  All excerpts here are rated PG-13 or milder. Here’s another post from my new WIP, my medieval trilogy Time Enough To Love.  Part 1 is called Betrothal.  The series is set in England and France in 1348.  Betrothal takes place at the court of King Edward III.

Lady Alyse de Courcy is a waiting gentlewoman to Princess Joanna, youngest daughter of King Edward.  After receiving the news that the new courtier, Sir Geoffrey Longford, is her betrothed, a dazed Alyse is less than happy with her arranged marriage.   Today’s snippet takes place after their initial meeting.,  I’ve switched to Geoffrey and Thomas in their chamber. It picks up the last line or two from last week’s Six Sentence Sunday post.  Thomas is rather in a snit when Geoffrey turns him down on an offer for a “night out with the boys.”  He leaves Geoffrey with his thoughts of Alyse, which turn more intimate as he prepares for bed.

DISCLAIMER:  TODAY’S EXCERPT IS PG-13.

Portrait by Mitar

His thoughts turned to the more intimate things she would have to get used to, a stir of desire rising in him. He imagined her thick black hair, fanned out on the bed, her full-lipped mouth beneath his, and the small dark mole just above the right corner of her lips tantalizing because of its exotic nature. That dot had entranced Geoffrey in the Great Hall earlier. His mind fixed on the tiny, curious mark, and filled his head with images of his mouth on hers, his tongue creeping up to touch the seductive spot. A shiver coursed through him.

The image of her naked, luscious body rose before him, as did his insistent cock. Thought of two weeks of such torture elicited a low groan. Perhaps he’d seek relief with another before the wedding night. Too much hunger might make him overeager and the last thing he wanted was to hurt Alyse more than necessary. The problems of sampling plain fare were not unknown to him, though his tastes usually ran as Thomas’s did to the more experienced. Still… this plain fare, with the addition of a little spice, would be quite enjoyable.

With that pleasant thought, Geoffrey quit the window, doffed his chausses and doused the light. He contemplated the morrow when the campaign for the capitulation of Lady Alyse would begin, its success to be decided in this bed two weeks hence. As he drifted down into sleep, Geoffrey grinned in anticipation:  he dearly loved a challenge.

Thus ends Chapter 1.  What do you think?  I have a tentative release date for Betrothal of mid-October, with the other two books to come in November and December.  I can’t wait to share more of this story with you. 🙂

I hope you enjoyed this latest sample from  Time Enough to Love.  Stop by SSS tomorrow for six sentences from 7 Days of Seduction.   And today be sure to click here to visit more Sweet Samples.

Romancing the Hop

One of my all-time favorite movies is Romancing the Stone.  Romance and comedy go hand in hand in this wonderfully plotted story, with characters you cared about and fell in love with from the first screen images until the last.  You (the viewer) couldn’t help but be swept up in the life of Joan Wilder, romance novelist, as she lives the life she’s written about but has never experienced.

Have we ever experienced true romance?  Is it candlelight dinners and flowers and long walks on the beach?  Or is it risking your all, fighting beside your significant other, to rescue them and save the day?  Not just Romancing the Stone fits this definition, but Last of the Mohicans (Daniel Day Lewis, be still my heart!), Star Wars, and Mr. & Mrs. Smith.

What are you willing to lose to gain everything?  How do you gauge romance in your life?

PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT WITH YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS TO BE ENTERED IN BOTH THE GRAND PRIZE AND MY BLOG PRIZE.

We have THREE grand prizes. You as a reader can go to EACH blog and comment with your email address and be entered to win. Yep, you can enter over 100 times!

Now what are those prizes?

1st Grand Prize: A Kindle Fire or Nook Tablet

2nd Grand Prize: A $130 Amazon or B&N Gift Card

3rd Grand Prize: The following Swag Pack!

The prizes for my blog giveaway are a book from my backlist (excludes Only Scandal Will Do) and a Scandal Swag Pack to three random commenters.

My characters in Only Scandal Will Do are more than willing to fight alongside each other-
-or facing one another!  Lady Katarina is capable of meeting any man with a sword in her hand, while Duncan Ferrers, Marquess of Dalbury, itches to meet her–in more ways than one! Katarina leads him a merry chase and they must learn all the facets of romance before they are truly satisfied.

Excerpt from Only Scandal Will Do:

“I assure you, there was never a night like that before.” Lord Dalbury spoke quietly, and Katarina sensed a tension in him. “I had never done such a thing before. Never participated in such an auction. Never tried to take a woman unwillingly to my bed.” He stopped speaking. Just stopped. Then his breath hissed as though he’d slowly released it.

“I cannot find the words to tell you how deeply I regret I was not a better man who night.” He paused, and she held still and waited. “What I tried to do was madness, without thought, without honor. I do not even have an excuse other than my base desires, and that your abundant charms overwhelmed me.” His face was shadowy in the scarce light of the sickle moon, but he sounded contrite. “I have no right to ask for your forgiveness. I have no right to expect it. But I would ask you to allow me to attempt to remedy the situation.”

Kat shook her head slowly. “What on earth do you believe you could do, Lord Dalbury, that could even come close to a remedy for the terror and humiliation you put me through? Do you think now that I have met you, heard your feeble attempts at an apology, and rejected them, the memory of that night will magically disappear?” She fought to control her anger, though she yearned to blast him with it. “What magic potion would you have me take that would erase the memory of you pinning me to the bed? Because if you have such an elixir, then yes, I will gladly take it from you and obliterate you absolutely and irrevocably.”

He stood silent at her words, then said simply, “I have only myself to offer, my lady.”

“You would have me kill you, my lord? In that, too, I agree I would oblige you, but not at the cost of my own life. I understand the English law punishes those who do murder quite severely.” Kat was astonished when he lurched backward, as from a blow.

“No, my lady, I would not have you kill me,” he said, sounding grimly amused. “Though indeed that would probably give you most satisfaction. I meant I would have you marry me.”

His words surprised a laugh out of her. “Marry you?” The laughter grew. “I see, my lord, you think me both a whore and a fool.”

“I think you are neither, Lady Katarina.”

“Then you are the fool to believe I would put such a man as you in control of every aspect of my life.” That he thought she would even entertain the suggestion was insulting.

The pale moonlight shadowed his face, but she could read displeasure there just the same. “You judge me solely on one act that, I assure you, was grossly out of character for me. You cannot possibly know what kind of husband I would be.”

“And never will, Lord Dalbury. I can swear to you that I would not marry you if I were in Hell and you were my only hope of Heaven.”

He inclined his head toward her, a faint smile touching his lips. “I believe you made a similar claim about dancing with me, Lady Katarina. Yet we have indeed enjoyed a dance together despite your words.” His tone was soft, the sensuous, cajoling one he had used to seduce her that night in the House of Pleasure.

Kat trembled, recalling the incredible sensations of his hands, his mouth on her body. Damn. He could not do this to her again. Not just with his voice.

“Is there nothing that would entice you to leave your Hell for my Heaven?”

She struggled to answer, opened her lips to deny it, only to find her mouth completely sealed by his.

She now stood dressed in thigh high black stockings, stacked heels and nothing else. Her breasts jutted out, nipples peaked by the sudden change in temperature. Hunter swallowed, closed his eyes and tried to think of something other than shoving his dick into her perfect creamy flesh.

The pic isn’t exactly right for the scene, but I LOVE it!

“Finish The Damn Book” Contest

For those of you who don’t know, I’m a member of the Chesapeake Romance Writers, my local chapter of Romance Writers of America.  This past year has been a rough one for the chapter because we lost long-time member Judi McCoy, author of fourteen romances and the very popular “Dogwalker” romantic mystery series.

Judi was a driving force in our chapter, a mentor to new writers, a great critique partner, and an avid dog lover.  Her beloved bichon frise, Rudy, was a rescue dog and Judy supported the Tidewater Bichon Frise Rescue organization where she adopted him.

To honor the memory of Judi and Rudy, Chesapeake Romance Writers is holding what we hope will become an annual writer’s contest, called “Finish the Damn Book!”  That was one of Judi’s favorite pieces of advice to all of us writers and we thought it an apropos title for this contest.  If you’ve finished a book, at least 55K in length, please consider submitting it to our contest.  A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Tidewater Bichon Frise Rescue organization in memory of Judi and Rudy.

Complete details for the contest can be found on our website, or you can email crwc@rocketmail.com with any questions, but I’ll give you the highlights here.

The contest is open to both published and unpublished authors.

To enter you need to submit the first and last chapters of your unpublished 55K+ manuscript, plus a synopsis of the entire work.  Total submission must not exceed 50 pages.

Deadline for Entry Fee:  5:00pm October 1, 2012

Deadline for Submissions:  5:00pm October 12, 2012

Categories include:  Contemporary, Paranormal, Historical, Mainstream with Romantic Elements, and Young Adult.

Three finalists from each category will advance to Finals Judging.

Finalist Judges for the contest:

Contemporary: Deb Nemeth, Carina Press

Paranormal: Amanda Barnett, The Wild Rose Press

Historical: Mary Murray, Lyrical Press

Mainstream w/Romantic Elements: Valerie Mann, Decadent Publishing

Young Adult: TBA

Entry Fee:  $25.00 for RWA members, $35.00 for non-RWA members

All Finalists will receive a certificate and a banner for their website.                                                                                               First place Winners in each category will receive a Rudy Statuette and a check for $50.00.                                                                       All entrants will receive detailed feedback on their first-round score sheets.

I hope you will consider entering our “Finish the Damn Book!” Contest.  You’ll get great feedback and the chance to get your work before some excellent judges in the publishing industry.  If you have questions for me, you can ask via comments or my Contact Me page.

I hope to see your name on a finalist list come November 30!
