Six Sentence Sunday–08/26/12 7 Days of Seduction: Day 2

Happy Sunday!  I’m continuing with 7 Days of Seduction, an erotic novella I hope will be ready for publication soon!

This snippet takes place on Day 2–after waking from a very erotic dream, Ashley decides to relieve her unsatisfied passion in the shower.  About to get down to business, she’s interrupted by the very man she’s been trying to find, the hunk on the sex video.  He appears and invites himself into her shower.

He clenched her nipple tips, tweaking them hard enough to cause pain that morphed into pleasure. Her pussy flooded with heat and moisture, an ache she’d wanted satisfied since her dream—hell, since Friday night.

As if reading her mind, Hunter stepped back, leaving her panting. “Hang on a minute, Ash.” He turned away and when he turned back around he’d sheathed his cock in bright orange.

Ashley stared then smiled, remembering the Smurf dick from the video, and asked, “Are you always so colorful?”

Thanks so much for visiting me today.  Now pop over to the Six Sentence Sunday list and check out the rest of the snippets.  They’re fantastic!

Sweet Saturday Sample: 8/2512 Time Enough To Love–Betrothal

Welcome back to Sweet Saturday Sample!  All excerpts here are rated PG-13 or milder. Here’s another post from my new WIP, my medieval trilogy Time Enough To Love.  Part 1 is called Betrothal.  The series is set in England and France in 1348.  Betrothal takes place at the court of King Edward III.

Lady Alyse de Courcy is a waiting gentlewoman to Princess Joanna, youngest daughter of King Edward.  After receiving the news that the new courtier, Sir Geoffrey Longford, is her betrothed, a dazed Alyse is less than happy with her arranged marriage.   Today’s snippet takes place after their initial meeting.,  I’ve switched to Geoffrey and Thomas in their chamber. It picks up the last line or two from last week’s Six Sentence Sunday post.  Thomas is rather in a snit when Geoffrey turns him down on an offer for a “night out with the boys.”  He leaves Geoffrey with his thoughts of Alyse.

“You know, Geoffrey, according to the art of courtly love it is the height of bad manners to fall in love with your own wife. A man’s true love is found with another man’s lady.” Thomas always saw too much.

He coolly turned the tables. “Mayhap, then, you will oblige me by marrying Lady Alyse yourself, lest I disappoint the rules.”

With a snort of derision Thomas got to his feet, apparently done sparring for the night. “Not for the wide world, my friend.  Although I bear you great love, Geoffrey, I would not saddle myself with an untried maid even on a bet. To which end I did not offer for the fair Alyse when I had the chance.” He set his empty cup down and flashed even white teeth at his companion. “I prefer the well-seasoned dish to plain fare.” He made for the door then turned as he opened it. “Are you not coming?”

Geoffrey rose and stretched. “Nay, Thomas. I have business to attend to in the morning. Another time, mayhap.”

With a groan, Thomas left the chamber to Geoffrey, who went to stare out the window at the shadowy trees across the royal park. Thomas’s question still preyed on his mind. The lightning stab of desire when he caught the maid’s eye he understood well. She was comely, with face and form fashioned to warm a man’s bed well. But why did his flesh seem afire whenever he touched her?  Such feelings were alien, unknown in all his previous dealings with women. This was different—and disturbing.

He sighed, and thought of the changes that would soon rule his life. Already ruled it. His refusal to carouse with Thomas was the first sacrifice. He had always matched Thomas pace for pace in whatever pastime they favored—hawking, gaming, wenching. This was the first night he had cried off. Too bad he disappointed his friend, but he had devised a plan to satisfy Alyse’s need for time and wanted to put it into motion at the soonest possible moment. Which meant an early breakfast.

He imagined his betrothed’s face, her crystal blue eyes wide when he laid the plan before her, and could not suppress a smile. She might be outraged, but he aimed to give her exactly what she had asked for. Hercules had succeeded at another labor; she would have to become used to life with a resourceful man.

What is Geoffrey planning?  And will it succeed?

Friday Favorites: The Beta

I know a lot of readers and writers are totally enamored of their alpha heroes.  And who wouldn’t be?  They’re a strong, incredibly motivated, take-charge kind of guy.

But what about the other males in the book?  The best friend, the sidekick, in some cases, the comic relief.  Do you have a favorite among the betas in books?

In my books, I’m probably most partial to Thomas Knowlton, Earl of Brayton, in Time Enough to Love.  Now, I know early on in the first book, Betrothal, Thomas does not show himself in a very sympathetic light.  He’s jealous of Geoffrey’s attentions to his betrothed and his anger gets the better of him, causing him to make trouble between the couple.  But Thomas learns the error of his ways and comes to value the friendship of both Geoffrey and Alyse.  Here’s a little snippet from the point where Thomas has an epiphany regarding Alyse.

He lifted his carefully penitent face to hers, opened his mouth to speak, then paused, as if he would change his mind. His eyes widened, as if with some revelation, and his mask of composure seemed swept away, leaving in its wake a man full of contrition.

“Lady Alyse de Courcy. You see before you a man with a contrite heart who would ask your gracious mercy. In my infinite folly, I have spoken words against your gentle character that were false and slanderous. They have, indeed, caused you much pain. I acknowledge these words were spoken without true understanding of your intellect or your kind, generous nature and therefore were falsely judgmental.” Here Thomas peered into her eyes beseechingly. “I sincerely regret the grievous harm I have done you, lady. Had I the power to recall those words, they would have never been spoken. I regret that is not within the realm of God’s mercy. I can only offer what little I have, and therefore lay my hand and my heart before you. If it is within your kind nature to forgive a wretch such as I, I swear my hand to your service and my heart to your purpose, what’ere it may be, from this day forward.”

Stunned and touched by the sincere words, Alyse sat silent for several moments,  amazed that there had been none of the glib courtier in that apology. His words had come not from his head, but from his heart. An unexpected turn of events. The primary reason she had declined to hear his apology was her fear that it would be all pretty words with no  true feeling behind them. To her shame, she had sorely misjudged him. There had been too much honesty in his words for her to doubt his sincerity, too much genuine remorse in his warm brown eyes at the end to mistrust him.

I like a man who admits when he’s wrong.  And a little grovelling never hurt either.  Still, Thomas is a very charismatic character, though he’s actually a beta, and I’ve grown very fond of him.

So, who’s your favorite beta male?  Please share him with us!

Virginity Unmasked

As an author of historical romance, I find myself preoccupied with rather odd things to research at times.  Bathing, as I’ve commented on in an earlier post, ways to execute people, symptoms of the Bubonic Plague.  You know, fun stuff. 🙂

When I was writing the second book in my House of Pleasure series, Only Marriage Will Do, I came to a point where a woman is accused of having had her virginity repaired after an indiscretion.  I’d read that such things have been done throughout history and while researching this fascinating subject, I ran into some other information that raised my eyebrows.

Copyright (c) 123RF Stock Photos

Most historical romance authors, except for those who write sweet or inspirational works, have at some point written a deflowering scene.  Married or not, the virgin takes the plunge and makes love for the first time with the hero.  So, at what point does the deflowering take place?

Where is the hymen, that historical measurement of a young girl’s virgin status, located on a woman’s body?  Until I did my research, I believed that it was a membrane that stretched across the vagina, about a quarter of the way into it.  I’d read many romance novels where the hero penetrated well past the opening before encountering this little barrier.  He could even change his mind, back out, and have her still remain a virgin.

Well, not to burst any bubbles, but it ain’t necessarily so.

The hymen is actually a membrane that surrounds the opening to the vagina. Here’s a diagram from The Marriage Bed that shows where it is.  According to A Hymen Primer for Romance Writers, “It’s maybe a centimeter in there, it’s thin verging on transparent, and it generally comes pre-perfed.” When a man inserts his “manhood” for the first time, the membrane tears, there’s a little pain and likely some blood.  But it’s right there at the opening–there is no going back in reality.  If smaller things–like fingers– are inserted, the hymen likely won’t tear.  It’s already perforated to varying degrees in the center, so it will accommodate some things.

When I read about this, I went back and changed my deflowering scene in Only Scandal Will Do.  I do like accuracy.

But then I began to wonder, “How did the “half-way-up-the-vagina” position come to be so popular?  More research ensued.  And led me back to my original question, “How do you repair a hymen?”

Today it can be done with surgery or “fake hymens.”  In the 18th century and before most likely a small bladder of animal blood was inserted into the vagina of the non-virgin.  When the man entered the woman he would encounter the bladder about half-way up the vagina, rupture it, cause the blood to flow and voila, a virgin is deflowered. There are other methods as well, but this is probably the one that gave rise to that particular myth.

Hymens are actually a poor indicator of virginity.  For instance, a hymen may actually be present, yet a woman may not bleed the first time she has intercourse. “It is highly elastic and in most cases perfectly capable of stretching enough to fit a penis without tearing. In most women it doesn’t show any obvious changes after penetration, so there is no way to determine by the state of the hymen whether a woman has ever been penetrated by a penis or not,” according to Dr. Pisaster in her article The Cherry Myth. Bleeding is often caused not by the hymen tearing, but by lack of proper lubrication.

So my research paid off.  I’m more informed about women’s anatomy and the placement of the hymen.  Will this help me write a hotter love scene?  I’m not sure, but when my virgin is deflowered, I hope everyone will be satisfied.

Have you read or written a love scene where the heroine gets deflowered?  How did you approach this delicate subject?  Does accuracy count here, or is poetic license allowed?

Six Sentence Sunday–08/19/12 7 Days of Seduction

Happy Sunday!  I’m changing to another WIP, 7 Days of Seduction, an erotic novella I hope will be ready for publication soon!

This snippet takes place on Day 1–a little after my Horny Hump Day offering on Wednesday.  Ashley and Sam are watching the video of their menage with a stranger last night–a menage neither of them remembers.

“My dick is cold,” Sam whimpered from the video. The Ashley of last night ignored him, instead running her tongue over the hunk’s chest as her fingers tugged on his nipples.

She looked down to see her hands plucking her hard crests through the tee-shirt. “We need to stop this, Sam.”

“Are you crazy?  This is one of the hottest sex videos I’ve seen in weeks—and we haven’t even gotten to the good parts yet!”

Thanks so much for visiting me today.  Now pop over to the Six Sentence Sunday list and check out the rest of the snippets.  You’ll have a blast!

Sweet Saturday Sample: 8/17/12 Time Enough To Love–Betrothal

Thomas is rather in a snit when Geoffrey turns him down on an offer for a “night out with the boys.”

An irritated glare sparked as Thomas sat up.  “Oh, do not tell me you have been snared by that little wench you flaunted earlier tonight!  You looked insufferably pleased with yourself, and it was not even through your own efforts.  She was your father’s choice, by Christ.  Though why he didn’t get you a better alliance, God knows.  He did much better for your brother.”  Thomas shook his head.  “And you approve of it?”

Geoffrey grinned at the exasperated man.  “Aye, I do.  The match is better than you may think, Thomas.  Her father has no sons and she is the eldest daughter, so his estates will pass to her and her husband on his death.  A fair catch for a second son with few expectations, would you not say?”  He sipped the wine and sighed.  “And strange as it may seem, I liked the little maid.”

“She does not seem your usual type, Geoffrey.” Thomas curled his lips into a knowing smile.  He and Thomas had wenched together enough to know his friend’s appetites in women as well as his own.

“The type I prefer would hardly be the type I would wed.”  Geoffrey seated himself across from the man he’d called friend for ten years.  “She is what I expected in a wife and maybe a bit more besides.”

“What do you mean?” Thomas grunted, twirling his cup in his hands.

“Oh, she is an innocent, but underneath there is a mettle in her that could be very entertaining, both in and out of bed.”  He chuckled.  “She spoke her mind rather freely tonight and challenged me to be her Hercules.”

“Hercules?” Thomas cocked his head.  “I would say she has an eye for the obvious.  You fit that immortal’s description so well already.” His friend’s face took on the smug smile it so often wore.  “I know you saw how smitten she was with me when I pointed her out to you earlier. A bold eye she had, with a face to tell the tale.”  He grinned at the Geoffrey.  “She did not, however, seem pleased with you, my friend.  You must be glad there was no dagger within her reach when you forced her to process around the room.”

Geoffrey scowled. Thomas’ penchant for such banter was well-known to him.

“Did you see her face when I kissed her hand?  I thought she would drop to the floor.”

Geoffrey snorted and shook his head.  “She is young, and you are but a passing fancy.”  He shot a glare toward the smaller man.  “Trust me, I will make sure of that.  And you well know ‘twas when I kissed her hand before the court that she all but swooned.  Neither did she react to your kiss, but to the touch of her hand on mine after you kissed it.”

“You saw that, you devil!  And I was at my most charming, too.”  He shook his head.  “So why does your rough touch make the girl giddy?  Have you threatened to beat her already?”

“She is marrying me, not you, Thomas.”

“Geoffrey!  You wound me to the quick. But the question at hand is what makes her tremble at your touch?”  Thomas laughed, the idea of such a strong attraction obviously ludicrous to him.

Friends or rivals?  Perhaps both, do you think? And just how will Alyse fare between them?

WARNING:  MATERIAL NOT SUITABLE FOR THOSE UNDER THE AGE OF 18!

NOT SAFE FOR WORK!

Participating authors in Horny Hump Day post three sentences from their published works or WIP, hot like a firecracker! LOL

Today’s Horny Hump Day has a nibble from my current erotic novella WIP, 7 Days of Seduction, which I’m working on edits for!

It’s Day One and Ashley has just discovered her Friday night was a little wilder than expected.  She has no memory of the night, so via a video, she finds out that she and her ex-boyfriend were not alone in the bedroom. A mystery guy walked in and joined them for fun and games.

Copyright (c) 123RF Stock Photos

On screen, the guy’s hands traveled down her back and cupped her ass, squeezed it as his lips fastened on her right breast.

Her pussy flooded with moisture; too late she remembered she hadn’t put on panties, so the tee-shirt was going to get wet–make that soaked.

The Hunk paused and pulled his white Polo shirt over his head, revealing a chest thick with dark hair she itched to get her hands on.

Don’t you know she hates not remembering this! LOL

SPOTLIGHT ON: W. LYNN CHANTALE’S LUST AND BOUND

Jenna’s Journal welcomes W. Lynn Chantale’s recent release, Lust and Bound.  Get ready for some HOT stuff!

Blurb:

Recent divorcee, Trisha wants to explore the wilder side of sex. When her every fantasy is fulfilled by her long time client Zach, she realizes one night won’t be enough. Only one thing stands in the way, a vengeful ex-husband.

Excerpt for Lust and Bound:

Zach fumbled the plastic card in the metal slot. When the mechanism whirred and clicked, he twisted the knob, but paused. “I have one rule.” His gaze never left her face.

Trisha met his hungry stare, her lips parting. “What’s that?”

“I don’t share.”

A thrill rippled through her body at the possessive note in his deep, rasping voice.

“Me either.”

“You can still walk away.”

Walk away? Was he nuts? She’d waited months for this moment, for freedom. Still, as his eyes raked over her body, waiting for her decision, a tiny seed of doubt wiggled in the back of her mind. She squared her shoulders. Nope. She wasn’t going home until she knew what made her eyes roll to the back of her head and she wanted him to show her.

“I’m not…”

He shouldered open the door and dragged her to him. The cool kiss of the textured wall greeted her bare shoulders as his mouth, hot and demanding, found hers. She sighed against his lips, jerking his shirt free from his waistband. He cupped her breast, his thumb stroking her nipple. Fire danced through her veins, pooled low. Her heart skipped a beat when he yanked the chiffon from her shoulders, ripping the sheer fabric.

Lifting his head, he flashed a quick smile, his mist-gray eyes shining with heat and mischief. “I hope you weren’t too attached to this dress.”

She didn’t care how he got her clothes off, just as long as he got them off. Her pulse raced and her breath quickened when the thin silk of her slip followed the fate of her dress. Trisha slid her hands beneath his shirt, his skin warm and smooth beneath her palms.

“Now what am I supposed to wear home?”

Zach grabbed her wrists, shackling them in one large hand and raising her arms above her head. She gasped as her breasts thrust upwards, straining for attention. “We’ll worry about that later.” He dipped his head, capturing one taut peak in his mouth.

She arched against him as desire further hardened her nipples and set her blood to simmering. His fingers brushed the curve of her hip, before drifting lower, tracing the sensitive skin below her garter belt.

“You’re a bit naughty, Trish,” he whispered against her mouth.

Her answering chuckle melted into a moan when his fingers stroked her damp pussy. His eyes widened when his hand met no barrier.

“Very naughty indeed,” he murmured. He leaned away, cool air skittering across her heated flesh. “I’ve waited so long for this.”

“Too long,” she agreed.

Pivoting, he grabbed her hand and led her into the bedroom. The king-size bed dominated the room and sat in front of the mirrored doors to the closet. Artificial candlelight flickered around the room, casting muted shadows against the wallpaper while the soft scent of jasmine wafted through the air.

Warm fuzzies squeezed her heart. Despite being a day early he had surprised her. She stepped forward, her nylon-clad feet skimming against something cool and satiny. Rose petals trailed from the door to the bed. She perched on the edge of the bed, too overwhelmed to speak.

When she focused on him, he watched her with a hooded expression.

“It seems like you’ve thought about this, haven’t you?”

He tucked a curl behind her ear. “I get one chance to make a lasting impression.”

“Thank you.”

His eyes widened when she shoved him back on the bed and straddled his legs. The bulge grew and hardened beneath her thigh. She worked at loosening his tie. Once unknotted, she tossed it aside and focused on the buttons. With each button released from its mooring she revealed more of his amazing body. She pushed the shirt aside to trace the large, colorful dragon/koi tattoo that began on his left pec and wrapped around his bicep to disappear onto his back. Anticipation coiled in her belly. Oh how she wanted to find out how far his tattoo went.

“You’ve tortured me enough tonight and I think it’s time you paid up,” she murmured against his lips. She skimmed light, teasing kisses from his mouth to his jaw.

A startled gasp escaped her lips when he shifted and blanketed her body with his. He captured her wrists in one large hand and held them above her head.

“One day, very soon, I’m going have you tied and helpless beneath me.”

She sucked in a breath, holding his gaze, unwilling to admit how much she wanted the same thing.

He traced the swell of her breasts just above the neckline of her corset. “But there is one image of you I can’t seem to get out of my head.” He touched his lips to hers in a long, drugging kiss that left her craving more. “Are you game?”

“I’m yours for the weekend.”

He chuckled, a smoldering look scorching her body. She responded to that look. “Oh, I like how that sounds.”

Heat crept into her cheeks as she realized what she’d said. “I—uh, yeah.”

He nipped at her neck, even as he settled deeper into the vee of her thighs. The heavy bulge of his erection rubbed against her core. Instinctively she raised her hips in greeting.

“I want to watch you, beautiful,” he murmured against her lips.

She stiffened. “Watch me what?”

He rolled off her and helped her to sitting. “I want to watch you climax, before I send you over the edge again.”

Six Sentence Sunday–08/12/12 Time Enough to Love: Betrothal

Happy Sunday!  Here’s another snippet from my medieval trilogy, Time Enough to Love:  Book 1 Betrothal. I’ve finished the first draft, sent in to betas and had it returned.  Now I just need to polish, have my wonderful editor take a look, and I hope to have it come out by the end of the summer as the first novella of the trilogy.  (Soon to be followed by Books 2 & 3)

Yesterday on Sweet Saturday Sample I gave another look at the girls getting ready for bed after the banquet.  Today, I’m continuing the snippet from last week, from the guys’ perspective.  Geoffrey has just told Thomas he’s not going out carousing because he’s going hunting in the morning. Hope you enjoy!

“What game?”

 “A wide-eyed doe.”

Thomas sat up, an irritated glare sparking in his eyes.  “Oh, do not tell me you have been snared by that little wench you flaunted earlier tonight!  You looked insufferably pleased with yourself, and it was not even through your own efforts.”

Hmmm.  Sour grapes from Thomas?

Thanks so much for visiting me today.  Now pop over to the Six Sentence Sunday list and check out the rest of the snippets.  You’ll have a blast!
