Weekend Writing Warriors ~ 5/25/14 Beleaguered

weekend_writing_warriors_header3

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors!

Friday was my cover reveal for Beleaguered!  Isn’t it gorgeous?

Beleaguered3

So of course I’m going to give you another snippet from this coming release.

To recap:  Thomas has insisted Alyse dance with Geoffrey at the princess’s banquet.  Alyse fears this is a bad idea, but has no choice but to comply.   This 8 takes up with the last sentence I posted.

Mirth and Gladness Lead a Dance from Roman of the Rose

He leaned in closer to whisper, “I must lift you now.”

Before she could grasp that staggering news, his arm went around her waist and he lifted her, twirling them around full circle. She panted, blood pounding in her temples, roaring in her ears.

They continued to dance, but she moved as though she were a doll made of rags, her legs barely able to stand. Her world narrowed to the single source of light and life that was the man who held her in his arms again. The man whose love she could no longer deny. Despite the agony of the betrayal, in the core of her being she knew neither the vows she had spoken to Thomas nor the passion they had enjoyed in his bed would ever match the intensity of love and belonging she shared with Geoffrey. As soon compare a candle’s flame to the sun.

That’s my 8 for this week. If you want the story from the beginning, both Betrothal and Betrayal, Books 1 & 2, are available at AmazonBeleaguered is currently set to release on July 11, 2014.

In the mean time, check out the rest of the Warriors here.  There’s some fantastic snippets to be read.

BLURB FOR BELEAGUERED:

When death holds sway in the world, can even the greatest love survive?

Finally in France, Alyse and Thomas return to their roles as courtiers to Princess Joanna. Their passion for one another continues to smolder hot and deep—until one fateful encounter changes everything.

During a formal banquet, Alyse must share an intimate dance with Geoffrey, her first love. His searing touch proves Alyse’s love and desire for him is as strong as when they first met. Tormented by this revelation, Alyse is bitterly torn between the love of her life and her love for her husband.

Into this agonizing situation, the disaster of the Black Death rears its head, decimating the princess’s retinue and threatening all their lives. Alyse, Thomas and Geoffrey must try to save the princess from the ravening disease but at a dire cost to themselves. With her world plunged into chaos, Alyse struggles with her feelings for both of the men she loves. But which love will survive?

Cover Reveal! Beleaguered ~ Book 3 of Time Enough to Love

I am both excited and proud to reveal the cover for Beleaguered, the final installment of my medieval serial novel Time Enough to Love!  This cover was also created by my wonderful editor, Danielle Fine, who has done the whole series (which I love!).

Beleaguered3

The current release date for Beleaguered is July 11, 2014.  Until then, here’s the brand new blurb and an excerpt to tease you.  I’ve also included the links to Books 1 & 2, which are available now if you haven’t checked them out yet.

Excerpt from Beleaguered:  A Fateful Dance

At last the strains of the new melody reached Alyse and she eagerly stepped toward the gathering couples. After another few measures of the piece she frowned and turned to her escort. “I fear I do not know this music, Sir Geoffrey, or the dance it seems designed for.” She watched the couples forming a circle, but the rhythm of the music was too fast for a carole.

Geoffrey smiled at her tentatively, apparently still wary of his reception. “The music is new, Lady Alyse, from Italy brought to the court by musicians just yesterday.”

“But then how do the other courtiers know the dance, but I do not?”

“Princess Joanna had this dance from her musician, Gracias de Gyvill, ‘ere we sailed,” he was quick to inform her. “I believe she thought the dance too scandalous to teach to her courtiers, until the . . . incident on the Phillipa. After you and Thomas were confined to your cabin she had it taught to us. As a distraction I suppose.” Thank goodness for that. There had still been gossip enough to go around she supposed.

He hurried on with a suggestion. “’Twould be the work of a few moments for me to teach it you, my lady.”

It would have to serve. She shot a look over her shoulder at her husband, who nodded and laughed as at a jest with the princess. Yet his eyes were trained on her. Best get on with it then. The sooner ‘twas done, the better.

“Your skill at dancing is such, that you would certainly learn the steps with but slight instruction from me.” Geoffrey’s voice, so close to her ear made her jump and recall herself.

He turned his practiced courtier’s smile toward her, and she caught something deeper shining in his eyes that she fought not to see. Her heart stuttered a beat. Misgivings swirled in her mind, even as her body flushed with the anticipation of dancing with him again. No good would come of this dance, but Thomas watched closely to see that she acted cordially to Geoffrey. Would that it was an act. With a sense of heavy foreboding, she extended her hand to him.

“Very well, Sir Geoffrey. What must I do first?”

He led her to their place in the circle of dancers, then grasped her hand and pulled her around to face him.

The moment his hand touched her skin a burst of fire shot through her. Her mouth went dry and her eyes riveted to his. Surely he felt that as well?

He stared back, his eyes mirroring all too clearly the blaze that coursed up her arm and spread like wildfire throughout her body.

Damn Geoffrey Longford.

In a daze, she looked around at the other dancers, as if expecting them to stare accusingly at her. As if they could see this sinful feeling that licked at her soul. At a loss for what to do, or how to act, she raised her gaze to beseech Geoffrey. “What do we do now?”

‘Twas an apt question for, God forgive her, at the touch of Geoffrey’s hand all thought of her husband fled. She was back on the deck of the Phillipa, facing him once more. Loving him once more.

Geoffrey cleared his throat, his face flushed, and said simply, “Follow me.”

Then they were twirling around the circle, hands clasped, arms touching intimately as a firestorm coursed throughout her body, branding wherever he touched her. The figure reversed and her other side was scorched, as if a red-hot blade pressed against torn flesh to sear it back together. Her gaze locked onto Geoffrey’s and the music, the dancers, the Great Hall and all its inhabitants melted away until all that was left was the whisper of his breath in her ear and the heat of his body pressed close against her.

He leaned in closer to whisper, “I must lift you now.”

If you’d like to see how Alyse and Geoffrey came to this moment, you might want to check out their story in Betrothal and Alyse and Thomas’s story in Betrayal.

Stay tuned for additional excerpts on Weekend Writing Warriors on Sundays in the coming weeks and I’ll keep you apprised of the release festivities I’m planning for Beleaguered in July.  Thanks for stopping by for my cover reveal!

Weekend Writing Warriors ~ 5/18/14 Beleaguered

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors!

Sorry to have been away last week, but I was laid low by a very nasty URI.  I’ve been coughing my head off and not getting to write much.  But I’m feeling better this week and wanted to continue a bit more of Beleaguered.  I should be having the cover reveal the end of this week, so I hope you come by for that!

Thomas has insisted Alyse dance with Geoffrey at the princess’s banquet.  Alyse fears this is a bad idea, but has no choice but to comply.   This 8 takes up immediately after the last ones I posted.

Participating authors in Horny Hump Day post three sentences from their published works or WIP, hot like a firecracker! LOL

Welcome to Horny Hump Day!

I’m still working hard on the second book in the House of Pleasure series, Only Marriage Will Do, slated to release later this summer. So happy about that! 🙂 It’s Juliet’s story (Duncan’s sister), in which she’s not exactly sure which man she’s married to!

HogWild2

This week I’m sharing a snippet from one of my non-historical works, Hog Wild.  It’s a Fractured Fairy Tale based on the Three Little Pigs story, who are now HOGs (Harley Group Owners) and are beset upon by a motorcycle stealing she-wolf.  In this scene, Lula, the she-wolf, is going after brother number 2.  Hope you enjoy!

Her hips grinding against the thick ridge in his jeans, Lula stroked his tongue, urging it into her mouth. When he complied, she sucked it like a candy cane until the man squirmed and pulled back, eyes wide.

“Damn, lady, are you part leech?”

If you’d like more of Hog Wild  it’s available on sale for .99  at Amazon.

5 Tips for Effective Author Marketing: Small is the New Big

I thought this an interesting post to share with you.

Jenny Hansen's avatarWriters In The Storm Blog

By Lynda Bouchard

Lynda Bouchard, Spanx, Writers In The Storm

What can an author learn from a pair of Spanx?A lot.

I was in a mall last week with my aunt and, as we walked through the pantyhose department, I noticed that one brand stood out. Spanx.

How Spanx got noticed and the unique marketing of this product is a brilliant lesson for all authors. Small is the new big.

1. Fill a void.

As an entrepreneur you want to stand out from everyone else who has a book. Spanx was CREATED to fill a void. Ask yourself what VOID your book can fill – where can it be presented, signed or stocked where it will be noticed.

2. Packaging matters.

People DO judge a book by its cover. Spanx created a recognizable brand image that stands out. Simple and red. Keep it simple – it will be read.

3. Small is the new big.

Meanwhile, here’s a snip from Only Scandal Will Do, the scene after Duncan and Katarina’s wedding night. Duncan has just presented her with a horse for a wedding present and Kat is feeling a little more charitable toward him.

The rasp of his breathing sounded low and steadier than hers. The strong clasp of his hand around hers, the heat pouring through her like a molten river where they touched, sent a surge of longing throughout her body. If she just raised her head, even slightly, his lips would be on hers and–

This week I’m showing off another snippet from Beleaguered, the final book of Time Enough to Love which is scheduled to release in  May! WooHoo!

In this  scene, Alyse and Thomas have taken time from their duties to the princess to attend to one another. Hope you enjoy!

With mischief in mind, she dragged her mouth in a torturous path over his taut belly, kissing lightly and delighting when the flesh jumped at her touch. When she reached the area below his navel, her hand stole down to stroke his hard, hot spire that stood aching for attention. A broad smile curled her lips until he seized her and rolled her onto her back.

Thomas and Alyse’s story, Betrayal, is available from Amazon and Smashwords.
