HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!
Only Seduction Will Do releases on June 5, 2018. Only 24 days until Release Day!
Welcome to my next set of snippets for Only Seduction Will Do, which will be out in early June. So sorry I couldn’t respond last Sunday–I was driving back from Memphis (again, following my daughter’s graduation from college) and was behind the wheel again. But I’m back now with more from Seduction for you.
Jack and Alethea have entered into an arranged marriage, and while Alethea is infatuated with Jack, he is not in love with her. He agreed to marry her to save her from ruin, but has agreed to a marriage in name only. At this point, they are on their wedding trip to Knowlton’s Keep, an ancient castle belonging to Alethea’s cousin’s family.
This week’s snippet begins where the last one left off: Jack and Alethea are rather abruptly leaving the Selham’s where they have had dinner because Jack has suddenly taken an amorous turn, although he’s not being very suave about it at all.
(Creative punctuation utilized to conform to WWW rules.)
He mashed his lips against hers, grinding them together.
She tensed and grunted, then relaxed into the kiss. It wasn’t what she’d dreamed of, but it was their first time; it would get better. Sliding her arms around his neck, she drew him closer to her, kissing him back with an intensity meant to show him just how she felt about him.
He thrust his tongue into her mouth.
The lover’s kiss, Eithne had told her, though it had certainly sounded pleasanter when her cousin described it.
He wiggled his tongue around in her mouth, then thrust in and out rapidly.
In all her dreams of this moment, she’d never imagined the reality would be so…disappointing—kisses were supposed to make one tingle, or so she’d always thought. She gently disengaged from him.
Letting her go, he sat up and blinked in the faint moonlight that streamed in through the carriage window and asked, “Is something wrong, my dear?”

BLURB:
“Won’t you come to bed, my lord?”
In a vulnerable moment, Alethea Forsythe allows herself to be seduced by a married peer. Now she is with child—and without recourse. Her reputation will soon be in tatters and she will be forced to wed a stranger—unless she takes matters into her own hands.
When Jack Fitzwilliam, the Earl of Manning, is summoned from the House of Pleasure on a matter of importance, he hardly expects to receive a marriage proposal. He’s long been aware of Alethea’s infatuation with him, but at twenty-three, taking on an expectant bride is not in his plans. Yet the desperation in the lady’s lovely eyes overrides his misgivings.
Alethea would not have believed it possible for a man to be too chivalrous. But though her new husband is perfectly amicable in public, he insists they maintain separate quarters. Desperate to possess his heart and prove herself a wife in every way, she boldly reaches out to Jack. And as their unexpected connection between silken sheets is tested by jealousy and misfortune, Jack must decide where honor ends…and true passion begins . . .

How disappointing. She wanted him to kiss her. But… Be careful what you wish for.

Hmm, that would put me right off him, I’m afraid, unless of course he IS inexperienced – or just TRYING to put her off! 🙂 You’ve done a really good job of piquing our curiosity here, Jenna!

Thank you so much, Hywela! At this point in the novel I do want readers as confused as Alethea, although they find out what’s going on quite soon after this scene.

Yep. Sometimes the reality pales in comparison to romantic fancies. But practice makes perfect.

So true! Now if she can only get him to practice with her… 🙂

I agree with her disappointing thoughts. Wiggle is just not a sexy word. It will be interesting to see what happens next!

I really felt sorry for Alethea when writing this scene. She had such high expectations. *sigh* SHe’s going to need a bit more patience it seems.

About as far from suave as one can get, in fact! The snippet really makes me curious, which is always a good thing in a reader – well done…

Suave he is not at the moment. And I’m so glad you are curious, Veronica! You’re right, that is a good thing!

Oh, I wonder if he did that on purpose, or if he’s that inexperienced. Nice snippet!

Good question, Jessica! You find out that answer in the next chapter. 🙂

Call the cops. What a dreadful situation!

Well, not quite a situation for the police, but it looks like Jack’s lack of technique is criminal!

That sounds like my experience of disappointment the rare few times my ex kissed me, only without any of that surface passion!

Yes, Jack is a bit short on finesse it seems.

Well, this is certainly a switch from the usual romantic hero!

Variety is the spice of life, you know. LOL Jack is a little different, I’ll grant you.
