Welcome back to Social Sunday, the day I do no promotion on the blog and just kind of hang out with personal topics.
I’m continuing with my month devoted to all things autumn and Halloween-y. Today I’m looking at my favorite Halloween party treats.
When my girls were young we would have a Halloween party every year and I would pull out all the stops with the baking. I loved creating different kinds of treats, being creative and making them as scary as I could (yet still appetizing!).
I made Witches’ Broomstick cookies (a peanut butter cookie attached to a pretzel),

Mummy Dogs (hotdogs wrapped in strips of biscuit),
Worms in Dirt (chocolate pudding topped with crushed Oreos and gummy worms),
Monster Mouths (Granny Smith Apples with peanut butter and candy corn teeth),
and my favorite (because of the way they looked) Eyeballs (Powdered sugar Donut holes with M & M irises).
These were served with Witches’ Brew (Lime sherbert and ginger ale) and a good time was had by all.
Of course, the kids likely went home hopped up on too much sugar. Oh, well. Happy Halloween!
What fantastic foods have you made to celebrate Halloween?

I love them!!! When my little one gets older, I will have to try these out. 🙂

Those are the coolest treats ever. Visually gorgeous. I especially liked the mummies. The only one I might be able to make are the mummies. I would have to use Turkey dogs and a whole wheat wrap. But then I don’t eat processed meats either. Sigh! The others are completely off my diet. But they are the best ‘worst’ foods for kids I’ve ever seen. Sugar is not really good for humans but boy do we love it.

I think you’ve had more fun than I have. 🙂 My big to-do about Halloween when my girls were small, was to make them homemade and elaborate costumes. When they were three, they were dressed up (and made up) like skunks (though they smelled a lot better). When four, they were Mary Poppins and Cinderella. One year they were a tiger and a lion. All with Mom-sewn costumes and accessories. I had a great time with that.

What great ideas! I love the mummy dogs! We always have fun things planned out for our school/classroom Halloween party. You can use hard boiled eggs in water to make a jar of eyeballs too.

Wonderful post. We loved trick or treating, so each year, Hubby and I would take turns escorting our son. Tweeted and shared on FB.

I actually miss Trick or Treating with the girls. Now they’re the ones giving out the candy and i’m kind of stuck in the house. 😦 I may have to have a party now and get it all out of my system. LOL Thanks for coming by and sharing, Ella.

You are so talented! Those eyeballs rock. I’ve never made Halloween treats other than worms in dirt, but you’re inspiring me to try my hand at it. Fun post, Jenna!

it’s really not that hard if you have the right recipes. The most time consuming one is the Mummy Dogs. It takes time wrapping them in the dough. But they do look cool and taste delish! The eyeballs are really not that hard. You should give them a go! Thanks for coming by, Mae!

Beg, borrow or steal, Tera, it’s all good when it comes to Halloween treats. 🙂 You can add a Pepperidge Farms Milano mint cookie to the desert cup and write RIP in black gel for a tombstone effect. I freakin’ LOVE Halloween!

Ooooh, I am so NOT domestic and can barely make my way around the kitchen but it’s on my bucket list! I’d like to be able to do all these cool things for my boys (2 and 5) but alas, my talent lies elsewhere. Can I borrow you for a Halloween party?

I’d love to do these parties again! It was such great fun, and your boys are the perfect age to start them at. They love the awesomeness of the treats, but aren’t critical about the execution. LOL And many of the treats don’t take a lot of time or skill. A new witch’s broom stick I just found is taking a miniature Reese cup and sticking a pretzel stick into it. Voila! And Worms and Dirt is very easy too. Even the eyeballs–you just take a dab of white icing, put it on an M & M, and stick it on the donut hole. You don’t have to do the red gel streaks, although that’s easy too. Now I really do want to host another party! Where do you live? LOL

Yum! All the treats you mentioned are making me hungry. I’m not really a cook, so the easiest Halloween treats that I’ve made are caramel apples. They have caramel circles on wax paper at the store, just warm and press onto the apple 🙂

Now that is cool! So much less mess than candy apples. Yeah, I got hungry putting this post together. LOL Thanks for coming by, Andrea!
