Today I’m continuing with another six sentences from Only Scandal Will Do. If you want to read the section just before this snippet, check out my post from yesterday.
The masked man has purchased a woman in a brothel auction and has come to claim his prize. His “slave” however, continues to insist there has been a mistake. He has managed to turn the tables on the “lady” and call her virtue into question. While evading the man’s advances, they discover a missing bit of vital information that seems turn the tide of his opinion of her.
“You are distraught, my lady. Please allow me to come to your aid.” He brought her hands to rest on the soft black cloak that disguised the solid expanse of his chest. Concern and respect in the voice that so recently mocked and insulted broke through Katarina’s crumbling defenses. Ready to drop from weariness, she could not reclaim the strength leached away by the excitements of the night. And his chest was strong and so incredibly warm under her palms that Kat sighed as his heat stole into her body, relaxing the muscles in her hands and arms inch by inch.
It sounds like he’s ready to step up to the plate and become a real hero to a damsel in distress. What do you think?

I think he’s not at all convinced. And if her hands are not soft, supple and smooth, as a lady’s should be, then he definitely does not believe her. Poor Kat. Her bad night is going to get longer and longer, it seems. Somehow, though, I have a feeling all will be well in the end. Great six (as usual)!
