Cover Reveal: Heart of Delight by Jenna Jaxon

Today I’m revealing the cover of the third book, Heart of Delight, in my Regency series, Handful of Hearts.

Heart of Delight

Just as my Heart of Desire cover, this one was created by the super talented Danielle Fine. 🙂 Isn’t it gorgeous?

Heart of Delight is available for pre-order at Amazon, so you can grab that now for release on September 20, 2016.

Here is the blurb for Heart of Delight (I think of it as my Cinderella story):

He’ll do anything to be her heart’s delight—except tell the truth

Gabriella d’Adventure is on a mission. She has come to England as a lady’s maid in pursuit of the Duke of Rother. When she meets Horace Carpenter, valet to a marquess, she is delighted to enlist his aid in gaining her heart’s desire: a meeting with the duke. But will her growing feelings for the handsome valet interfere with her plans for the duke?

The eccentric Marquess of Halford, Hal to his friends, is tired of the demands of Society, especially his father’s decree that he marry this Season. When a breathtaking young woman intrudes on his solitude, he is captivated and introduces himself as his valet in hopes of learning more about her. Despite his fear about the true motive behind Gabriella’s quest to meet the Duke of Rother, Hal agrees to help her gain an audience with him, all the while praying his deception won’t ruin his chances of winning her love.

And an excerpt:

Bonsoir, mademoiselle,” he said, rising from the floor to bow. He hoped she would speak again. Her lilting, vibrant voice would haunt his dreams.

Bonsoir, monsieur.” She wrinkled her petite nose. “You are English, non?”

“I am. My French is abominable, but I hoped to impress you with what I remember of it.” Hal smiled. He’d never got the hang of languages other than his own.

The girl laughed, tossing her head. “You have a good accent for an Englishman.”

“Thank you.”

She glanced from the balcony rail to the doorway and bit her lip.

“Is there some way I may be of service to you, Mademoiselle…?” He must know the name of this beautiful creature.

“D’Aventure,” she said, with a small but graceful curtsy. “Gabriella Veronique Marie d’Aventure. Mais, non. I am fine, monsieur.” Again, she slid her gaze toward the balcony railing.

Well, he had a name, at least. Better than complete ignorance. “Have you, come, perhaps, to watch the dancing?”

She nodded, keeping her attention on him. “Yes, my lady does not require me at the moment, so I thought it would be nice to see how the English dance.” Her smile quite took his breath away. “May I?”

“Please.” Hal stepped back and motioned her in front of him.

She moved like air on water, seeming to glide without touching the planked floor. When she reached the railing, she studied the dancers, now engaged in a country dance. “They are very beautiful, the English ladies, in their best gowns.” A glance at him and her smile broadened. “Not as beautiful as the great French ladies of the royal court, of course, but their gowns are well made.” She giggled. “Perhaps they have a French modiste.”

“I suspect many of them do.” Unable to help himself, Hal stared at the charming girl. Fortunately, the dancers held her interest so she missed this lapse of manners.

Entranced, she peered over the rail, her gaze darting from one couple to another, her hand beating time on the rail. Then she frowned and shook her head. “Non, non. C’est impossible.”

“What is impossible, mademoiselle?” She was obviously looking for someone. But who?

Spotlight: Brabanter’s Rose by Mairi Norris

b-rose-e-reader copy

To celebrate the relaunch of the de Wolfe Pack World of Kathryn le Veque, Màiri Norris writes a novella from her Ballads of the Roses series. Brábanter’s Rose is the story of a mercenary who knows his life of killing must end and of the woman whose faith and unconditional love makes it possible.

BLURB:

A mercenary with a bloodstained soul.

Elrik of Breda has had enough of death and seeks a place to build a home and live in peace.

An innocent with a secret.

Yrsa of Ottham has lived too long with loss and rejection. She yearns for a place where she belongs.

Sometimes, the intervention of Fate creates magic.

Together, they embark on a quest to fulfill the longings of their hearts… but the cost may be higher than they could ever dream.

“Until death takes me, she will be the fate of my soul, the abode of my heart. I, Elrik of Breda, do swear this vow before this council.”

EXCERPT:

Yrsa could not sleep. Her thoughts nigh made her dizzy as they circled round in her brain. Elrik was meant for her. She never doubted it, but neither had she expected to find the knowledge confirmed so clearly, more and more each day. The life she wanted with him, the children they would have, the love they would share—all these and more played out before the eyes of her mind until she thought she would burst with desire for him.

The clouds that plagued the land the past many days sped away. Stars popped into the clear sky, filling the dark expanse with the magic of light. As the night deepened, the temperature dropped. She shivered.

From across the fireless pit, he spoke, his voice quiet. “Come lie with me, Yrsa. I can hear your teeth chattering.”

She smiled.

∞∞§∞∞

Elrik awoke nigh the dawning, Yrsa warm and relaxed in his hold, her feminine shape plastered close. Gently, so as not to disturb her, he tightened his hold, admiring her fragile beauty. How easily she beguiled him. The press of soft hips and the tempting fullness of breasts urged he take her, now, in the most elemental of ways, but Betek slept nigh.

Now was not the right time. He could wait. Awe at his fortune along with the simple comfort of her presence held greater sway. He wished first to know the woman behind the sweet curves.

He carefully set her from him. Mind and body refreshed, he yawned and stretched. The increasingly frequent—and increasingly violent—dreams of his own death had not bothered him these past nights with Yrsa in his arms. Those images surfaced from some deep recess within to fuel the quiet rage that for long had fueled his life’s purpose, but he was convinced her presence held them at bay. He had slept better than in many a month, for ’twas right he cradled her in his hold.

That much of her dreams he accepted, that they should share a life together. She believed it would come to pass, and mayhap she was right. Certainly, he already thought of her as the missing element of his life, the one person he needed to complete his future even if previously unaware of the lack.

Gold could not absolve a man’s bloodstained soul, but possibly some other coin, less obvious and more precious, might purchase redemption. He had lived long enough to know sometimes the gods or fate decreed two should find each other. These would then become forever one, not only in body and in the eyes of the church and the world, but also in heart, mind and soul. If this woman learned to love him there remained a chance, aye, a slim hope he might find the peace he had not acknowledged he craved until he walked away from war.

She stirred and rolled over to face him. “Good morn.”

He smiled, slowly. Mayhap he might satisfy some need of hers, as well. Aye, he had found his mate, and he would not now part from her.

Weekend Writing Warriors ~ 8/28/16 Heart of Desire: An Unexpected Acceptance

weekend_writing_warriors_header3

I’m back! Last weekend I was driving home from Memphis after taking my daughter back to school. And this week has been a humdinger because Heart of Desire not only released, it got a new cover at the very last moment (technical issues). So, I’ve brought it back for an encore performance. Next week/month belongs to Heart of Delight, which will release to pre-orders and a cover reveal, so stay tuned next week for more sweet Regency!

This is really the final post from Heart of Desire. And here is the new, beautiful cover:

Heart of Desire Final

The time is the beginning of the Season in London, May 5, 1820. Miss Katherine Locke is waltzing with Lord Haversham at Lady Hamilton’s ball. Lord Haversham has demonstrated the scandalous nature of the waltz and is now escorting her off the ballroom floor.  Lord Haversham escorted her to her brother, Lord Ainsley and Kate and Haversham have continued to trade barbs.

The final snippet for this book will be between Kate and Marcus and Ainsley, as they meet the night following their spirited exchange at Lady Hamilton’s. Marcus has just asked her for a dance. Hope you enjoy!

couple 2“Thank you for that kind offer, Lord Haversham.” She fluttered her fan over her face, revealing nothing. “I am not engaged at the moment, so yes, I will be happy to accept you,” she said as she smiled and curtsied, for all the world as though she meant it.

Words failed him although he managed a bow and grabbed his friend’s arm, hauling him away from Miss Locke’s disturbing presence. “What did you say to her?” he demanded as soon as they were out of earshot.

“Why? Has she trampled your efforts before they are even born?” Ainsley’s frown—without a hint of mirth around the eyes—convinced Marcus his friend spoke the truth.

“She accepted me.”

Ainsley slowly cocked his head as he asked, “Isn’t that the desired outcome of an invitation to dance?”

Blurb:

Follow your heart to find your desire

Miss Katherine Locke is irked to start her 3rd season dancing with the disagreeable Lord Haversham, her brother’s friend and her own arch enemy. After three years out, however, she’s finally interested in the dashing Lord Finley—only to find out her cousin has set her cap for him too. To make the man jealous, Kate feigns interest in Lord Haversham, only to be shocked to find herself falling for the handsome lord against her will.

Marcus, Lord Haversham, is in a tight pinch. His estates are failing and worse, he’s just lost 3,000 pounds to his best friend, Lord Ainsley. Ainsley’s solution: have Marcus marry his shrewish sister and he’ll cancel his gambling debt plus give him 10, 000 more for her dowry. With nowhere to turn, Marcus agrees, praying he can keep word of the wager from Kate until he can woo her and charm her into marrying him.

And don’t forget to check out the rest of the Warriors here.  There’s some fantastic snippets to be read.

Heart of Desire, Book 2 of Handful of Hearts, is now available at Amazon!

A Kiss Beneath the Mistletoe, Book 1 of Handful of Hearts, is also available at Amazon currently on sale for $.99 (final week at this price).

Heart of Delight, Book 3 of Handful of Hearts, will release for pre-order by September 1, 2016. Look for the cover reveal that day as well!

New Release: The Crimelords’ War by Liza O’Connor

Crimelord book 7 bk blog tour banner

Gregory the butler half shotMeet the butler, Gregory

When Vic and Claire were young children, they came to live with their Aunt Madeline after a ship wreck took both parents. Having watched her mother drown due to the heavy skirts she wore, Vic refused to wear skirts. Aunt Maddy explained people would be most cruel if she attempted to wear pants.

“Not if they think I’m a boy. Frankly, boys lead a more interesting life anyway. Plus, when I reach eighteen, I can be guardian of Claire, keeping her safe from the uncle you don’t trust.” Madeline agreed with all points, and turned Vic over to her butler with instructions to teach Vic how to become a proper gentleman.

Over the years, Vic resented how Gregory harped and scolded her all the time, while Claire got to do whatever she wanted. When she met Xavier he agreed that Gregory was too hard on her and too lax with Claire. Naturally, Vic confronted her butler as to why he preferred Claire.

Gregory was gob smacked. He explained Claire got to do what she wanted because she was the mistress of the house. However, he saw and treated Vic as his son, and his scolds were solely to make Vic an outstanding gentleman.

Vic was so delighted with this new perspective, that she now refers to Gregory as his butler-parent. She still gets scolded, but knowing it comes from a place of love makes all the difference in the world.

Crimelord book 7 bk final 400x640

blurb

Chaos abounds in Late Victorian England. Xavier goes off on a mission without Vic because her protector, Tubs, is not well enough to keep Vic from harm right now. In fact, Tubs is dying and the doctor doesn’t expect him to live for more than a week. Upon discovering Tubs’ dire situation, Vic sets about rescuing him instead.

Good thing too. To all appearances the two strongest crime lords of London have declared war on each other. Only the two attempts on Vic’s life tells her this is all a clever plot by a third party—worse yet, a female villainess.

To stop the crime lords from destroying one another, leaving their territories open to the Russian spy, she must bring Seth and Samson together, share what is really going on, and get them to agree to work against this third party. Not an easy task since Seth Sojourn thinks Vic is nothing but a foolish sop. Unfortunately, Xavier has gone missing, so it’s up to her to convince the angry crime lord that her plan is best. Otherwise, this villainess will kill everyone who gets in her way and bring England to its knees.

An Excerpt

When Gregory brought them dinner, she was about to scold her butler-parent for the meager bowl of soup he brought Tubs, only his words silenced her. “I had the cook put shredded beef in your soup tonight. It should help rebuild your muscles.”

He then smiled at Vic. “Might I speak to you for a moment?”

She left her food reluctantly and followed him into the hall. Gregory shocked her by breaking his own rule that gentlemen never hug. He pulled her into his arms and briskly hugged her, then released her. “When do you plan to have Tubs stand again?”

“When he seems rested enough.”

“Were you expecting that to be today?”

“Yes. He needs to be active.”

“The problem is, Casey and Fagan may not be up to the task for another week. They appear to have pulled muscles in their assistance today.”

She sighed heavily. “Send them my apology.” How would Tubs ever heal without safely standing?

She smiled as an answer came to her. “Will you call David at his dentistry shop and ask him to stop by on his way home. I have a challenge for him.”

Gregory frowned. “You cannot expect David to be able to lift Tubs.”

Vic laughed at the idea. Her brother-in-law weighed no more than she did. “Of course not. I expect him to devise some method for Tubs to walk on his own.”

That earned her a second hug. She smiled at her grand achievement.

“Now back to your mission,” Gregory scolded and left her.

About the author liza

Liza O’Connor was raised badly by feral cats, left the South/Midwest and wandered off to find nicer people on the east coast. There she worked for the meanest man on Wall Street, while her psychotic husband tried to kill her three times. (So much for finding nicer people.) Then one day she declared enough, got a better job, divorced her husband, and fell in love with her new life where people behaved nicely. But all those bad behaviors has given her lots of fodder for her humorous books. Please buy these books, because otherwise, she’ll become grumpy and write troubled novels instead. They will likely traumatize you.

You have been warned.

Release Day for Heart of Desire!

Happy Release Day for Heart of Desire, my sweet Regency romance that is Book 2 of my Handful of Hearts series.

Heart of Desire Final

And yes, it’s not your eyes, I really do have a new cover for Heart of Desire! I had resolution issues with the  old cover, so my fabulous editor, Danielle Fine, whipped this up in less time than it takes to tell. I just love it! She’s also done the cover for my upcoming Book 3, Heart of Delight and is re-covering A Kiss beneath the Mistletoe so they are all beautiful and look like a real series!

Now, back to Heart of Desire!

Blurb:

Follow your heart to find your desire

Miss Katherine Locke is irked to start her third season dancing with the disagreeable Lord Haversham, her brother’s friend and her own arch enemy. After three years out, however, she’s finally interested in the dashing Lord Finley—only to find out her cousin has set her cap for him too. To make the man jealous, Kate feigns interest in Lord Haversham, only to be shocked to find the handsome lord apparently falling for her. With time running out, should she accept his suit and risk falling in love despite herself?

Marcus, Lord Haversham, is in a tight pinch. His estates are failing and worse, he’s just lost three thousand pounds to his best friend, Lord Ainsley. Ainsley’s solution: have Marcus marry his shrewish sister and he’ll cancel his gambling debt plus give him ten thousand more pounds for her dowry. With nowhere to turn, Marcus agrees, praying he can keep word of the wager from Miss Locke long enough to charm her into marrying him. But can he avoid falling in love himself?

Excerpt:

She really should’ve known better than to wager with her brother. His ability to assume a completely expressionless face when playing cards or placing bets had become extremely annoying. “No one could lose with good grace if they had to put up with Lord Haversham for even five minutes during a waltz. It is quite impossible to fathom. Even you, dear brother, would not take it well.”

“How fortunate then that I shall never be required to stand up with Haversham.” Nathan laughed, and Kate clenched her hands. Just because her brother fancied himself a great wit did not make it true.

“Well, mark my words, I will never undertake a wager with you or anyone else again with a forfeit involving Lord Haversham.” Just saying the name was like biting into an unripe persimmon. It turned her mouth inside out.

Nathan watched her, rubbing his fingers over his watch fob. “You are in your third Season, Kate. You could do worse than Haversham, you know.”

“Worse than…” She stared at her brother, expecting devil’s horns to sprout from his dark curly head. “How could anyone be worse than Marcus, Earl of Haversham?”

“You sound as though the man’s a scoundrel or a cad. He’s a good man, Kate. He may have fallen on hard times at the present. His father’s death affected him very deeply.” Nathan stared at her, frowning.

“I am sorry for his loss, but that doesn’t excuse—”

“He hadn’t expected to take on the mantle of responsibility for some years to come.” Her brother jumped to his friend’s defense. “By the time he got himself in hand, the estates had begun a downward slide. His uncle’s helping him take the reins of the family investments, so that should be all right. But Haversham himself is a good man. He’d make a good husband.”

Kate’s jaw dropped. “Do you seriously want me to marry him?” She grimaced and swallowed convulsively. “My mouth doesn’t even want to say the words.” That lemonade would’ve been welcome right about now. “I wouldn’t marry him if he were…were… There is no instance where I would consent to marry him.”

Heart of Desire is now available on Amazon!

And if you would like to help me promote Heart of Desire and help me out a lot, please click on the link HERE and support me though my ThunderClap Campaign. It will go out tomorrow at 12 noon IF I have 100 supporters.

If you don’t know what a Thunderclap Campaign is, in a nutshell it’s a promotional tool that all your friends, fans, and supporters can help with and it’s FREE, which makes it even better. 🙂  To support the campaign, you click the link below and agree to allow twitter-312464_960_720Thunderclap to send a message from me out through one or more of your social media accounts. So on a particular day and time, you would Tweet or share my message about Heart of Desire. In signing up, you sort of “set it and forget it” because Thunderclap does the sending automatically.

F_icon_svgIn the case of Heart of Desire, your Tweet or Facebook post would go out at 12:00 noon on August 24, 2016. That is the only time it would be sent. But just think of that blast of promotion going out to the followers and friends of 100 or more people! The reach would be enormous!

But that’s the caveat of the deal. You have to have 100 supporters sign up or the blast doesn’t go out. So it’s terribly important that I get 100 or more people to sign up for this promotion. Do you think you might help me?

I’ve gotten off to a very good start. I opened the campaign on Tuesday, August 9. It was approved Wednesday and I began to promote the campaign and by this morning my stats are as follows:

Total Supporters:  64

Total Social Reach: 169,371!!!!

So I’m almost halfway there! Thank you so much to all my family, friends, and fans who’ve signed up so far to support me!

But I only have 12 days left to gain those 55 other supporters. Won’t you be one?

All you need to do is click Arrow-Down-Red

HERE.

The link will take you to the Thunderclap site where you can sign up for any or all of the social media options (the more the merrier!) and help me reach my goal in promoting Heart of Desire.

Many thanks in advance, and I’ll update everyone on my progress next Friday!

Weekend Writing Warriors ~ 8/15/16 Heart of Delight: A Beautiful, Intelligent Woman

weekend_writing_warriors_header3

August’s “Book of the Month,” is Heart of Delight. It’s Book 3 in my Regency series Handful of Hearts, and another sweet Regency. I haven’t revealed the cover yet, so I’m just posting a picture that illustrates the scene. Cover reveal is set for September 1, with release on September 20.

At Lady Hamilton’s ball in May 1820, Lord Halford, Hal to his friends, flirts with his cousin, Lady Celinda Graham, in hopes of gaining a wife as decreed by his father.

1815-regency-proposal-woodcut“I’m tired of living by the ton’s rules, dictating what I can and cannot do. Why can I not sit in my shirtsleeves without creating a scandal? It’s as if the walls close round me each time I set foot in a ballroom. Neither am I comfortable with all the dancing and flirting—”

“Even though you do it extremely well, from what I’ve observed?” she said and batted her fan at his arm, her eyelids closing to mere slits, like a cat waiting at a mouse’s hole.

“As do you, my lady,” he said, taking her hand, so petite in his large one, and gazing into her angelic face. “I wonder if you can save me from another season of balls and parties and the eternal flirting and courting of ladies I have no interest in.” A gentle squeeze of her soft skin set his pulse snapping. “I need a sweet, beautiful, intelligent woman like you, cousin, to help me find my way.”

“What are you talking about?” she asked, pulling her hand from his, her blue eyes wide and wary.

Blurb:

He’ll do anything to be her heart’s delight—except tell the truth

Gabriella d’Adventure is on a mission. She has come to England as a ladies’ maid in pursuit of the Duke of Rother. When she meets Horace Carpenter, valet to a marquess, she is delighted to enlist his aid in gaining her heart’s desire: a meeting with the duke. However,  her growing feelings for the handsome valet make Gabriella have to fight to continue her plans for the Duke

The eccentric Marquess of Halford, Hal to his friends, is tired of the demands of Society, especially his father’s decree that he marry this Season. When a breathtaking young woman intrudes on his solitude, he is captivated and introduces himself as his valet in hopes of learning more about her. Despite his fear about the true motive behind Gabriella’s quest to meet the Duke of Rother, Hal agrees to help her gain an audience with the him, all the while hoping his deception will won’t ruin his chances of winning her love and hand in marriage.

And don’t forget to check out the rest of the Warriors here.  There’s some fantastic snippets to be read.

I opened the campaign on Tuesday. It was approved Wednesday and I began to promote the campaign and by this morning my stats are as follows:

Total Supporters:  45

Total Social Reach: 136,637!!!!

English Country Dancing in Williamsburg

ba-1817-waltz

Earlier this summer my daughter, who’s been working at Colonial Williamsburg, found out that each Tuesday night, CW sponsors a group of English Country Dancers at Newport House, a bed and breakfast, in Colonial Williamsburg. Anyone can attend for a nominal fee ($1.00 donation). It’s two  hours each Tuesday, from 8:00 pm until 10:00 pm.

So for the past few weeks we’ve been going. And I’ve been dancing!

This is fantastic for several reasons. First, it’s great exercise. Every night I go, I make my goal of daily steps. Next, I got to spend time with my daughter who will only be home for a few more days before leaving for college. And third, it is AWESOME for historical romance research purposes!

FullSizeRenderThe dancers don’t wear period costumes, although I’ve been told they do hold a costume ball at least once a year here in Williamsburg. And last night three balls were announced in nearby and not-so-nearby locales. I’d love to go to one, but will need to get my Regency gown made first.

The dances, however, are almost all period dances from the colonial period, many of  which were carried on into the regency. Last week I danced one called  “Mad Robin,” the first week one called “Lord Fuddington.” Last night I videoed one of my favorites, although I didn’t get the name of it.

The first hour are rather simple dances, the second hour more difficult ones. Since I’m a rank novice, I only dance the during the first hour and that’s work-out enough. But I love it because it’s exercise where you have to be thinking all the time.

One of the most interesting things I discovered immediately was that the room where we dance is much smaller than I would have thought you needed for such dancing. These dances are done usually in longways sets, so a long, narrow room works well for even as many as 15 or 16 couples. And the variety of dance steps you can do in such a space is also surprising.

They’ve announced that starting in September, there will be lessons for beginners starting 1/2 an hour before the dancing begins. You can bet I’m going  to be there!

Have any of you danced English Country Dances?
