Cover Reveal for To Woo A Wicked Widow

I am thrilled to announce that today Kensington is revealing the cover to the first book in my Regency series, The Widows’ Club, To Woo A Wicked Widow, set to release in print and ebook in April 2018.

The war years are behind them.
The future is before them.
And one by one, the widows of Lyttlefield Park are getting restless . . .

Lady Charlotte Cavendish is still the spirited girl who tried to elope in the name of love. That dream was thwarted by her father who trapped her into a loveless, passionless marriage. But now widowed, Charlotte is free to reenter the giddy world of the ton—and pursue her desires. For hardly your typical widow, she remains innocent to the pleasures of the flesh. Yet her life is finally her own, and she intends to keep it that way . . .

Nash, the twelfth Earl of Wrotham, is beguiled by Charlotte at first sight—and the feeling is mutual. When he receives her intriguing invitation to a house party, the marriage-minded lord plans to further their acquaintance. But even he cannot sway her aversion to matrimony, and only with great restraint does he resist her most tempting offer. For unbeknownst to Charlotte, the misadventures of the past are revisiting them both, and bedding her could cost him everything—or give him everything he ever wanted . . .

EXCERPT:

Lord Wrotham’s big, rough hand took hers, but instead of leading her back to the floor, he made his way to Elizabeth, speaking a word in her ear.

She laughed and nodded, then rearranged her sheets of music.

He pulled Charlotte onto the floor to stand in front of him. “I hope you will not be too scandalized by my request, my lady.” His eyes said he hoped she was and a thrill ran from her head to her toes.

“I doubt you can shock me, my lord.” She raised her chin and stared straight into his coal-black eyes.

“We shall see.” He grasped her hands, the power in his a tangible thing. His touch spread delicious warmth throughout her body. They bowed and Elizabeth began a waltz.

Not exactly scandalous, yet a bold choice. The first figure moved easily, with little intimate contact. Then, in the second figure, his arms were supposed to embrace hers. Instead, they reached all the way around her back until they touched. He pulled her closer to him, his lips pressed against her ear, and whispered, “And now, my lady? A waltz can be a scandalous dance if your partner is of a mind to make it so.” He pressed her tighter, almost indecently.

Yet she did not struggle. Could not. His big body against her—the hard strength of him leaving nothing for her to imagine—persuaded her that to fight him was futile. She would never be free. Never wanted to be…

To Woo A Wicked Widow is on pre-order at Amazon, B & N, and other e-tailers.

Medieval Monday: First Encounter! ~ Cathy MacRae’s The Highlander’s Viking Bride

MedMon

First Meet!

is our theme for this round of Medieval Monday!

Join us, our heroes and heroines and as we see that crucial first encounter with a couple meant to be together.

This week’s excerpt is from

Cathy MacRae’s

The Highlander’s Viking Bride

Excerpt:

Calder glanced at the young woman who’d entered the room as silent as a ghost. Though the Sinclair men did not stand in respect at her introduction, Calder, Finn and the rest of the MacGerry men rose immediately from their seats. She offered a small curtsy, her gaze dropping to the floor, seeming uncomfortable with the attention.

Blurb:

Calder MacGerry, laird of an impoverished clan, has resolved to end the bitter feud between the MacGerrys and Sinclairs. He jumps at Laird Sinclair’s offer of marriage to his only daughter, Katja, to seal the agreement between their clans—only to get more than he bargained for.

Katja’s chance to escape her father’s harsh treatment appears to be too good to be true. But becoming Lady of a clan that despises her because she’s a Sinclair, doesn’t make her life any easier. When the attacks turn deadly, she fights her way out, making a dangerous passage to the Shetland Isles for refuge with her Viking family.

Calder and Katja’s marriage, built on mistrust, rushes quickly into disaster. As Calder seeks to repair the damage, Katja discovers not another enemy, but a husband who pledges a new beginning.

Weekend Writing Warriors ~ 09/17/17 Only Scandal Will Do ~ Heaven and Hell

weekend_writing_warriors_header3

After months away from WWW, I’m finally back! I’ve been writing non-stop to meet deadlines and am now in edits for the next House of Pleasure book, so I’ve finally got some of my life back and wanted to share my new House of Pleasure cover and a snippet of Only Scandal Will Do with you!

Kensington recovered the first two books of the series and the reveal was Friday so I couldn’t wait to show this one off!

Today I’m sharing a snippet from Scandal in which Lord Dalbury and Lady Katarina (who hates him) are out in a moonlit garden together to speak about their unfortunate first meeting. Lord Dalbury speaks first.

(Creative punctuation utilized to conform to WWW rules.)

Moonlit garden

“You judge me solely on one act that, I assure you, was grossly out of character for me. You cannot possibly know what kind of husband I would be.”

“And never will, Lord Dalbury–I can swear to you that I would not marry you if I were in Hell and you were my only hope of Heaven.”

He inclined his head toward her, a faint smile touching his lips as he said, “I believe you made a similar claim about dancing with me, Lady Katarina. Yet we have indeed enjoyed a dance together despite your words.” His tone was soft, the sensuous, cajoling one he had used to seduce her that night in the House of Pleasure.

Kat trembled, recalling the incredible sensations of his hands, his mouth on her body. Damn, he could not do this to her again, not just with his voice.

“Is there nothing that would entice you to leave your Hell for my Heaven?”

She struggled to answer, opened her lips to deny it, only to find her mouth completely sealed by his.

BLURB for Only Scandal Will Do:

He has the woman of his dreams, but what price will he have to pay to win her heart?

Kidnapped and sold at auction in a London brothel, Lady Katarina Fitzwilliam squelches an undeniable attraction to the masked stranger who purchased her, pits her wits against him, and escapes him and the scandal that would ruin her life.

Unable to resist temptation in a London brothel, Duncan Ferrers, Marquess of Dalbury, purchases a fiery beauty. She claims she’s a lady, but how can she be? No lady of his acquaintance in polite society is anything like her. Then he discovers she is who she says, and that this latest romp has compromised her reputation. He knows how that is. One more scandal and he’ll be cast out of London society, but he needs a wife who’ll provide an heir to carry on his illustrious family’s name. He seeks out Katarina, intending only to scotch the scandal, but instead finds his heart ensnared. He’s betting their future he’ll capture her heart, but does he have what it takes to win the wager?

Green eyes glared back at her. “So your brother sold ye. Why?”

She frowned in confusion. “I don’t have a brother.”

“Are ye not kin to the O’Quinlan of Navan?”

What did he tell her? Was it to rest? Her head throbbed trying to recall his words.

Medieval Monday: First Encounter! ~ Ashley York’s Curse of the Healer

MedMon

First Meet!

is our theme for this round of Medieval Monday!

Join us, our heroes and heroines and as we see that crucial first encounter with a couple meant to be together.

This week’s excerpt is from

Ashley York’s

The Curse of the Healer

Book 1 of the Derbfine series

Excerpt:

His broad shoulders and warrior’s stance were, no doubt, quite frightening… to some. Then he crossed his arms about his broad chest, tucking a hand under the intricately carved silver band clasping his bare upper arm. A wealthy man, then. Perhaps he was a ri túaithe.

“Mayhap ye do not recognize me, but ye should heed my warning.”

The stranger’s eyes narrowed and she nibbled her lower lip. She couldn’t back down now. “Well, then, ’tis a good thing ye do not get to decide.”

Blurb:

After the death of Brian Boru in 1014, a legend arose of a healer so great she could raise a man from the dead, with a power so strong it could make any warrior the next high king of Éire…and to steal it away from her, he need only possess her.

Fated to be a healer…

Aednat has spent her entire life training to be the great healer, knowing she must remain alone. When she meets Diarmuid, the intense attraction she feels toward him shakes her resolve to believe in such a legend. If she gives in to the passion he ignites in her, can she settle for being less?

Destined to be his…

Diarmuid of Clonascra is renowned for his bravery in battle. Only one thing daunts him: the prospect of taking a wife. The safest course would be to keep his distance from Aednat, the bold, headstrong healer who’s far too tempting for his peace of mind. But his overking orders him to protect her from a group of craven warriors intent on kidnapping her to steal her power.

What starts as duty for Diarmuid quickly transforms into something more. Aednat’s power might be at risk, but so is his closed-off heart.

Be My Guest! ~ Author Interview with Juli D. Revezzo

banner-memeHello, and welcome back to my new feature for 2017.

I’ve had to take a hiatus from this post for quite a while due to contract obligations. But I’ll be giving you two more interviews before I retire this feature. Today I have Juli Revezzo with me as my guest. Juli is a dear friend and a fellow historical author.

So now gather round the tea table, grab a scone or cookies, and a cup of tea or coffee and discover a new friend in the writing world.

So without further ado, please meet Juli Revezzo!

Learn more about Juli at: https://www.julidrevezzo.com/

Who is your favorite romance hero or heroine and why?  What qualities do they possess that make them memorable?

C.L. Wilson’s Fey king in her Tairen Soul series. What makes him memorable? He’s a faery king and is patient with Ellysetta, more than most romance heroes ever seem to be with headstrong heroines. (And, did I mention the fact that he’s the fey king??)

Who was the first romance author and book you read?

The first historical romance I read…wow. *thinks* It’s not strictly romance as we might categorize them today, but I guess I’d have to say Jane Eyre. Post-classics…I guess that would be The Last Rogue by Deborah Simmons.

Are you a pantser or plotter? What is your process?

You know, when I started out I was a pantser all the way, and that stayed until the last few years. I’ve sort of combined them since then in that I’ll brainstorm an idea, but then if I get stuck, I’ll turn it around and try to plot it out. I’ve tried being a good little plotter and write from an outline, but having a clear map at the beginning tends to bore my muse.

Who or what inspires your writing?

Life, history… mythology more often than not, those last two especially are inspiring.

Which of your own books is your favorite and why?

Right now, my favorite is probably Lady of the Tarot. I don’t really know why in an easy list. I love Emilie’s gumption, and how she handles everything. Of course, Linton doesn’t hurt either.

What is your favorite holiday and why?

Halloween. Why? I’ve always liked dressing up, and it’s a way to let a little bit of my inner witch out. 😉 Without, you know, people looking at me like I’m weird.

What is the most exciting/daredevil thing you’ve ever done?

Oh, I’m a fraidy cat, not a daredevil! I prefer to keep my feet on the ground.

What is the first thing you do when you get a story idea?

Usually, I will dig up a pen (or these days, grab my phone) and scribble the idea down.

Do you have any hobbies/passions outside of writing?

I have been an amateur photographer for years. I really love macrophotography. It can take something like a flower and zoom in on one petal. Or a small bee or something like that. You never know what you’ll see at close range.

I’ve also been learning to knit the last couple years. I’m by no means proficient (or fast) yet, but I’m hoping one day I can whip out a scarf in an afternoon.

What is your favorite cuisine?

Italian! I especially love lasagna.

Now, tell us a little bit about one of your books.

What was your inspiration for this story?

The inspiration for Lady of the Tarot? The novel actually sprang from a story that came before it, House of Cards.  Emilie, the heroine of Lady of the Tarot, is the sister of the main character in HoC, but …while he went off one way in his escape from Paris and the Reign of Terror, when I got to the end of that story he hinted his sister’s story was just beginning. So I went back and …er, grilled them, and found out the family sent Emilie off to live with her grandmother in Britain and that she had her own way of dealing with the family legacy, just as filled with tarot references (probably more!) than her brother had. To go a little deeper, I’d say she and her personality was inspired also by the features of the high priestess as she seems to be able to unravel her mysteries and know what needs doing, intuitively. She has to dig for that answers a lot of the time, but she still relies a lot on intuition in her trials. I didn’t know until I got down to writing the book, exactly how much she’d have to say about what came next!

I am a fanatic about my character names. Are the character names special in any way?

In this case, I went through historical name lists. Sinjon (Emilie’s brother) was named after   I bet you can guess where Linton came from. *g* And Nicholas, I wanted to give him a contrary name, so named him after a saint. (Spoiler alert, he is and he’s not). The hag, well… I liked the name she took.

Who is your book dedicated to and why?

My little brother. He was indirectly responsible for part of the world in the story.

How long did it take you to write this book?

Four to five years beginning to end.

Now, the Infamous Lightning Round: (Choose 5-6 of the questions below)

What is your favorite amusement park ride?

The ones that spin. I don’t like heights and so that throws rollercoasters right out.

Tea or coffee and how do you take it?

I like coffee, cream and sugar, please. But I’ve been drinking a lot more tea, lately. With honey and milk. I’ll take sugar in my tea, but honey tastes better to me.

Favorite all time movie?

Excalibur!

Chocolate or vanilla?

I like to mix the two.

Would you rather skydive or scuba dive?

Scuba dive! Actually, my father was a scuba diver the first few years of my life so I’d much rather be under the water than in the sky.

What’s your favorite Starbucks drink?

I don’t think I’ve ever had one. Too expensive! I’d rather save my pennies for books. 🙂

Who is your favorite cartoon character?

Bugs Bunny. I’ve always loved him.

metamorphoses_ovid_1567_-_book_1_footer

BLURB:

WHAT THE CARDS FORETELL MAY BE REAL, AFTER ALL

1793: Having escaped the Reign of Terror, Emilie Maigny took refuge in England, trying to come to grips with the life and loss she left behind. When her brother, Sinjon, returns, a terrifying evil swoops down upon her. Nightmares plague her now, providing strange clues … but to what?

Scottish-born Linton Morrison spent his entire life in luxury, whiling away the hours in intense study of the tarot and the cards’ hidden meanings, but until he met the lovely Emilie Maigny, he would never have guessed how important his study might be–to his life and Emilie’s survival when terrible evil strikes.

A Cypher is all Emilie needs, but what is it? Is Linton the key? He may charm her heart–and he may be her only salvation.

Medieval Monday: First Encounter! ~ Judith Sterling’s Soul of the Wolf

MedMon

First Meet!

is our theme for this round of Medieval Monday!

Join us, our heroes and heroines and as we see that crucial first encounter with a couple meant to be together.

This week’s excerpt is from

Judith Sterling’s

Soul of the Wolf

(The Novels of Ravenwood, Book 2)

Excerpt:

At first, she saw only the towering stones, nine of which formed a circle.  Two more stood at the ring’s center, crowned by a final, horizontal stone.

It looks like a gateway, she mused, studying the central piling.

A tall man stepped from behind one of the weathered stones into the path of the wind.  Only his profile was visible above his whirling, blue cloak.  He was clean-shaven and fair-skinned, with strong features and straight, shoulder-length hair so blond it shamed the cowering sun.

He was simply the handsomest man she’d ever seen.  Her gaze, her whole being, was riveted on him; his was glued to a raven perched atop a bordering stone.

The bird cocked its head toward her.  Kraa!  Kraa!  Kraa!

It flew off into the whispering forest as the man turned.

Blurb:

A Norman loyalist, Lady Jocelyn bristles when ordered to marry Wulfstan, a Saxon sorcerer. She nurses a painful secret and would rather bathe in a cesspit than be pawed by such a man…until her lifelong dream of motherhood rears its head.

A man of magic and mystery, Wulfstan has no time for wedded bliss. He fears that consummating their marriage will bind their souls and wrench his focus from the ancient riddle his dying mother begged him to solve. He’s a lone wolf, salving old wounds with endless work. But Jocelyn stirs him as no woman ever has.

Their attraction is undeniable. Their fates are intertwined. Together, they must face their demons and bring light to a troubled land.

MedMon

First Meet!

is our theme for this round of Medieval Monday!

Join us, our heroes and heroines and as we see that crucial first encounter with a couple meant to be together.

This week’s excerpt is from

Sherry Ewing’s

For All of Ever

Excerpt:

Riorden quirked his brow, letting out the breath he had been holding. “Do you see the woman there?” he asked, pointing in the direction of the sand dune ahead of them.

He watched as Aiden’s gaze swept the sand, but apparently he saw nothing out of the ordinary; just the ocean, the beach, and the castle looming high above. “I see naught, Riorden, and certainly nary a woman.”

“You will think I am mad when I tell you I see her, but I assure you, I am not.”

“’Tis a ghostie,” Patrick whispered as he began to cross himself to ward off any evil spirits.

“Hush, Patrick,” Aiden told his brother.

Blurb:

Sometimes to find your future, you must look to the past…

Katherine Wakefield has dreamed and written of her knight in shining armor all her life. Never finding a man to measure up to the one of her imagination, she and her three closest friends take a dream vacation to England. Yet, strange things begin happening while visiting Bamburgh Castle, but how could they have known they’d find themselves thrown back more than eight hundred years into the past?

Riorden de Deveraux travels to Bamburgh answering the summons of King Henry II knowing his past life is about to catch up with him. But nothing prepares him for the beautiful vision of a strangely clad ghost who first appears in his chamber, let alone the fact he begins having a conversation with her.

Centuries are keeping them apart until Time gives them a chance at finding love. But there are obstacles threatening the fragile bit of hope that Riorden and Katherine can remain together. Will the past of one consume what their future may hold, or will Time take the decision from them and hurtle Katherine forward to where she truly belongs?
