In a vulnerable moment, Alethea Forsythe allows herself to be seduced by a married peer.  Now she is with child—and without recourse.  Her reputation will soon be in tatters and she will be forced to wed a stranger—unless she takes matters into her own hands.

When Jack Fitzwilliam, the Earl of Manning, is summoned from the House of Pleasure on a matter of importance, he hardly expects to receive a marriage proposal. He’s long been aware of Alethea’s infatuation with him, but at twenty-three, taking on an expectant bride is not in his plans.  Yet the desperation in the lady’s lovely eyes overrides his misgivings.

Alethea would not have believed it possible for a man to be too chivalrous. But though her new husband is perfectly amicable in public, he insists they maintain separate quarters. Desperate to possess his heart and prove herself a wife in every way, she boldly reaches out to Jack. And as their unexpected connection between silken sheets is tested by jealousy and misfortune, Jack must decide where honor ends…and true passion begins . .

Only Seduction Will Do is available for pre-order at Amazon,          B & N, Kobo, Google, and iTunes.

Excerpt:

“Lord Manning, I must apologize for this cryptic summons, but I importuned my cousin to send to you upon a matter of utmost importance.” Miss Forsythe twisted her fingers together brutally, until Jack felt tied in knots.

“Utmost importance to your cousin, Miss Forsythe?”

“To me, Lord Manning. Although it will likely touch on both my cousin and her husband as well.” The woman avoided his eyes by moving swiftly toward Braeton. She grasped his arm and leaned toward him, her lips at his ear.

Braeton kept his voice low, though his face acted as an open book. At her first words, he scowled like a vengeful god.

Jack waited for the thunderbolt.

Shaking his head vigorously, the earl drew his brows down almost to his nose. “You will not—”

“My lord, you promised me earlier.” Miss Forsythe’s face had drawn into determined lines. Her voice lowered, power in her indomitable tone. “Do not renege on this, I beg of you.”

Dark brows still lowered, Braeton threw up his hands, paused to collect himself, then turned to Jack. “Miss Forsythe wishes a word with you, Lord Manning.” He shot an angry glance at the lady. “Alone.”

All Jack’s instincts for self-preservation leaped into high alert. Something ill was afoot and he doubted it would be to his liking one whit when it finally came out.

Miss Forsythe stood, demure for possibly the first time in her life, her gaze lowered, her hands clasped primly in front of her. The picture of an obedient woman. And as false as a Newgate penny, he’d be bound.

“I am certain anything Miss Forsythe has to say to me could be spoken in your presence, Braeton.” He shot a look of desperation at the earl. Had the girl conceived some sort of trap to spring on him, compromise him into marrying her? Jack stiffened, then for the first time since he had arrived, he relaxed. Even though unannounced, he was already betrothed. Miss Carlton had now saved him, it seemed. Quid pro quo.

“I believe my cousin wishes to ask a boon of you, Manning.” Braeton’s mouth twisted as though he’d bitten into a lemon. “I am aware of the nature of the request and agree she would want privacy to ask it. I won’t be far if you should need me.” Braeton bowed curtly and left.

More confused than ever, Jack turned his attention back to Miss Forsythe, who swayed slightly from side to side, fidgeting with a lace handkerchief she’d produced from somewhere. Did she expect their conversation to lead to tears?

“Won’t you please have seat, Lord Manning?” Miss Forsythe indicated the chair nearest the fire. She seated herself opposite him. Perched seemed a better word, on the edge of the brown leather chair. “I do thank you so much for attending me at such an inconvenient time.”

“No inconvenience in the least, Miss Forsythe,” Jack said waving a hand of dismissal. He settled back into the chair. “How may I be of service to you?”

She gripped her lace-edged handkerchief in one hand, the other clenched on the chair’s arm. Raising her chin, her deep blue eyes boring into his, she swallowed hard. “Would you marry me, Lord Manning?”

Binge Read at the Beach!

Memorial Day just arrived, what I’ve always thought of as the official beginning of summer. And I know a lot of people (my family included) start to vacation around this time. We usually go to the Outer Banks of North Carolina for a week in July, but we often take a little two day trip around this time of year as well–just to get our feet wet, so to speak, with vacationing.

The major way I spend those days is relaxing in the shade (can’t do sun any more so we have a Shelta-Hut for me to lie in) with a good book–or a series of them. I remember years

Binge Reading at the Beach

ago tearing through the Twilight series and then the Harry Potter series during Beach Week (my older daughter wanted to be able to talk to me about the books, so I read them.) I used to read tons of Dean Koontz and Stephen King lying on my beach towel, crab dip and chips and a Seagram’s Fuzzy Navel wine cooler at the ready. I love to binge read at the beach!

Why don’t you? And I’m going to propose my House of Pleasure series for your beach binging pleasure. 🙂  Book 4, Only Seduction Will Do, releases on June 5, giving you plenty of time to start the series with Only Scandal Will Do, and finish both Only Marriage Will Do and Only a Mistress Will Do, before Seduction releases.

Only Scandal Will Do

He has the woman of his dreams, but what price will he have to pay to win her heart?

Kidnapped and sold at auction in a London brothel, Lady Katarina Fitzwilliam squelches an undeniable attraction to the masked stranger who purchased her, pits her wits against him, and escapes him and the scandal that would ruin her life.

Unable to resist temptation in a London brothel, Duncan Ferrers, Marquess of Dalbury, purchases a fiery beauty. She claims she’s a lady, but how can she be? No lady of his acquaintance in polite society is anything like her. Then he discovers she is who she says, and that this latest romp has compromised her reputation. He knows how that is. One more scandal and he’ll be cast out of London society, but he needs a wife who’ll provide an heir to carry on his illustrious family’s name. He seeks out Katarina, intending only to scotch the scandal, but instead finds his heart ensnared. He’s betting their future he’ll capture her heart, but does he have what it takes to win the wager?

WARNING: A blade-wielding heroine who crosses swords with a master of sensuality.

Only Scandal Will Do is available at Amazon, B & N, iTunes, Kobo, and Google.

Only Marriage Will Do

Happily-ever-afters don’t always begin at “I do.”

When the man of her dreams rescues Lady Juliet Ferrers from the villain claiming to be her husband, she is sure she has found her one true love. But is she free to marry him? Not to be deterred, Juliet arranges for her hero to escort her to her family estate in far off Northern England—hoping that along the way she can win his love—and his hand…

Captivated by Juliet’s sweetness and beauty, Captain Amiable Dawson can’t help but be spellbound by the promise of a life with her. But the spell breaks when questions arise about her marital status. Soon the upstanding Amiable is unsure if he is indeed married to Juliet. And when his rival absconds with her, Amiable must choose between the law of the land and his heart’s desire to rescue Juliet once more…

Only Marriage Will Do is available at Amazon, B & N, iTunes, Kobo, and Google.

Only A Mistress Will Do

The man of her dreams . . . belongs to another woman.

Destitute and without friends, Violet Carlton is forced to seek employment at the House of Pleasure in London. She steels herself for her first customer and is shocked when the man rescues her instead of ravishing her. A grateful Violet cannot help but admire the handsome Viscount Trevor. But she must curb her desire for the dashing nobleman she can never have because he is already betrothed to another…

Tristan had gone to the House of Pleasure for a last bit of fun before he became a faithful married man. But when he recognizes the woman in his bed, he becomes determined to save her instead. Now, his heart wars with his head as he falls for the vulnerable courtesan. Unable to break his betrothal without a scandal, Tris resolves to find Violet proper employment or a husband of her own. Still, his arms ache for Violet, urging him to abandon propriety and sacrifice everything to be with the woman he loves…

Only A Mistress Will Do is available at Amazon, B & N, iTunes, Kobo, and Google.

Weekend Writing Warriors ~ 05/27/18 Only Seduction Will Do ~ The Threat of a Duel

Only Seduction Will Do releases on June 5, 2018. Only 9 days until Release Day!

Welcome to my next set of snippets for Only Seduction Will Do, which will be out in early June.

In this week’s snippet I’m continuing with the night after Jack and Alethea have returned to London from Knowlton’s Keep.  Alethea has gone to bed, is in an exhausted sleep, when Jack knocks at her door. She expects him to want to come to her bed, but he is fully dressed as if to go out.

(Creative punctuation utilized to conform to WWW rules.)

“I hated to disturb you,” he strode into the room, “but didn’t want you to wake in the morning and find me gone.”

Trembling seized her and she pushed the door shut with such force it boomed throughout the corridor. Thoughts tumbling around her head so fast she couldn’t snare one to speak, she trailed him around the room until finally, she found her tongue to ask, “What has happened?”

“Dalbury is downstairs with his carriage; we need to make haste to Wiltshire as Lord Trevor has challenged a man to a duel. Dalbury and I are to stand as his seconds so I should be gone several days only, though with the weather—”

“A duel?” Fear licked through her body and she grabbed Jack’s arm, her fingers digging down into the whipcord steel muscles.

“Yes, but not of my own making, I assure you; I go as Trevor’s second only.” The brown of his eyes had deepened almost to black, excitement bubbling there.

A nasty metallic taste flooded her mouth and she grasped his other arm, making the candle quiver, throwing wild shadows on the walls, insisting, “No, you cannot go, Jack!”

Only Seduction Will Do is available for pre-order at Amazon, B & N, Kobo, and Apple.

Also, if you would like to read and review the book, please contact me. I have ARC copies!

I also plan to host a party on my blog on release day, Tuesday, June 5, where there will be party games, prizes, swag and a special grand prize to go along with the Georgian setting of Only Seduction Will Do. I’ll be offering copies of the books in the series as well. So plan to stop by here on Tuesday and join the Celebration of Seduction!

Weekend Writing Warriors ~ 05/20/18 Only Seduction Will Do ~ An Unexpected Appearance

Only Seduction Will Do releases on June 5, 2018. Only 17 days until Release Day!

Welcome to my next set of snippets for Only Seduction Will Do, which will be out in early June.

In his week’s snippet I’ve jumped ahead to the night after Jack and Alethea have returned to London from Knowlton’s Keep.  Alethea had gone to bed, is in an exhausted sleep, when Jack knocks at her door.

(Creative punctuation utilized to conform to WWW rules.)

Straightening up, she swept her hair back over her shoulders, her stomach clenched. He could only be here at this time of night for one reason; pray God he would be gentle, not rough like last time. She wouldn’t cry out this time, no matter what, and maybe together they could find a way to bring pleasure to each other. Resolute, she depressed the handle and opened the door.

Her husband stood in the doorway, in the light of the candle he held, fully dressed. “May I come in?”

“Of course,” she said and swept the door open, puzzled that he had bothered to change into a new set of clothes just to come to her room. Why didn’t he come in his night shirt and banyan? Was this the normal way of it? Eithne had said nothing of how a man dressed when he came to his wife’s bed.

Weekend Writing Warriors ~ 05/13/18 Only Seduction Will Do ~ The Lover’s Kiss?

weekend_writing_warriors_header3

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!

Only Seduction Will Do releases on June 5, 2018. Only 24 days until Release Day!

Welcome to my next set of snippets for Only Seduction Will Do, which will be out in early June. So sorry I couldn’t respond last Sunday–I was driving back from Memphis (again, following my daughter’s graduation from college) and was behind the wheel again. But I’m back now with more from Seduction for you.

Jack and Alethea have entered into an arranged marriage, and while Alethea is infatuated with Jack, he is not in love with her. He agreed to marry her to save her from ruin, but has agreed to a marriage in name only. At this point, they are on their wedding trip to Knowlton’s Keep, an ancient castle belonging to Alethea’s cousin’s family.

This week’s snippet begins where the last one left off:  Jack and Alethea are rather abruptly leaving the Selham’s where they have had dinner because Jack has suddenly taken an amorous turn, although he’s not being very suave about it at all.

(Creative punctuation utilized to conform to WWW rules.)

He mashed his lips against hers, grinding them together.

She tensed and grunted, then relaxed into the kiss. It wasn’t what she’d dreamed of, but it was their first time; it would get better. Sliding her arms around his neck, she drew him closer to her, kissing him back with an intensity meant to show him just how she felt about him.

He thrust his tongue into her mouth.

The lover’s kiss, Eithne had told her, though it had certainly sounded pleasanter when her cousin described it.

He wiggled his tongue around in her mouth, then thrust in and out rapidly.

In all her dreams of this moment, she’d never imagined the reality would be so…disappointing—kisses were supposed to make one tingle, or so she’d always thought. She gently disengaged from him.

Letting her go, he sat up and blinked in the faint moonlight that streamed in through the carriage window and asked, “Is something wrong, my dear?”

Medieval Monday: Author’s Choice ~ 4/30/18 Betrayal by Jenna Jaxon

MedMon

Author’s Choice

This time around on Medieval Monday our theme is simply Author’s choice. Each author get to choose their own theme–celebration, food, betrayal–everything is on the table.

I have chosen a celebration–a wedding and more particularly a wedding night–for my snippet and today’s excerpt ends this theme.

Excerpt:

He skimmed his hand over her breast and tweaked the nipple, drawing a loud gasp.

“Thomas!” The outrage in her voice would have brought a laugh from him had his need not grown so great. But it worked on the waiting courtiers, for their whisperings increased. So now ’twas time to finish the deed.

He rose over top of her, his weight carried on his elbows, his length pressing her down. Placing his lips next to her ear, but speaking in a normal voice, he announced, “Do not fret, sweet. ’Twill hurt but a moment.”

Beneath him, Alyse gasped. “But, Thomas—”

He strained forward and bit her on the shoulder.

“Thomas!” Alyse’s shriek sounded shrilly in the darkness.

He clamped his hand over her mouth and whispered, “Shh.”

The courtiers burst forth with clapping, congratulations, and laughter. Some of the men shouted encouragement to him, and he chuckled, though did not reply.

When he slid his fingers away from her mouth, she lay still a moment then asked, “Is it over now?”

He peered down at her, though he could not see her face. “Not yet.” He sighed and began to rub his cock against her belly. Not the best to be hoped for on a wedding night, but it would have to serve.

“You may remember the night of the banquet. ’Twas not done in one stroke, I think.” She stilled beneath him, though he continued to slide against her exquisite flesh. “I need to spill my seed, both for proof on the sheets and for my own ends.” He nuzzled her neck. “As you can feel, you have set my passions aflame, wife, and though ’tis nay you say tonight, ’twill not always be so. I will stand ready whenever you say aye.”

She slipped her hands around his neck, whispered, “Thank you, Thomas,” and kissed him.

The unexpected caress, coupled with his strong thrusts, sent him over the edge. He cried out as he spilled himself, determined to the last to convince the witnesses their marriage was truly consummated. He rolled off her and lay panting, listening to the applause he damn well deserved.

Thomas lay there a moment then the curtains stirred and a light appeared. Alyse squeaked and dove beneath the sheet.

Patrick Sullivan shoved a goblet of wine into Thomas’s hand. He took it and drank deeply. When he had drained the cup, he wiped his mouth and proclaimed loudly, “Aye, marriage is thirsty work. Best leave a bottle or two of this good Bordeaux, Patrick, lest I find myself with a mighty thirst come morning.”

“Do you think two bottles will be enough then, Thomas?”

The courtiers laughed and several began to drift out of the chamber. Thank Christ.

Thomas grinned at his friend. “Leave three for good measure.” He handed him the goblet back, and the young man chuckled and withdrew, plunging him into darkness once more. He eased himself back onto the mattress and lay listening.

“Thomas?” Alyse’s quiet voice sounded loud in the mounting silence.

“Aye, my sweet?”

“What are we going to do about—”

“Shh.” He grabbed her hand and squeezed it to caution her.

They waited until the silence was complete then Thomas poked his head out of the curtains. One candle shone on the table amid bowls of roses and the three bottles of wine. He smiled at that then slid to the floor and went in search of the pitcher and washing water. After cleaning himself, he performed the same service for Alyse, taking the candle to light his way. She lay relaxed on the pillows and looked serenely at him as he washed her. No blushes rose to protest the sight of her nudity. Apparently, progress had been made.

“Thank you, Thomas.”

“There is no service I would not do for you, my lady.” He bowed low, hoping to coax a smile from her.

She sat up, shooting a hand out to capture his. “What can we do about the sheets? They have your seed, but not my blood.”

He patted her hand then strode to the mantelpiece. He searched until he found the implement he sought and brought it back to the bed.

“Open your legs, my sweet.” At her astonished look he laughed, took the small paring knife, used to trim candlewicks, in one hand and her finger with his ring upon it in the other. With a swift cut, blood welled up on the pad. Thomas smeared the dark red stain between her legs, squeezed the finger again, and added more to the sheet.

“Now we can truthfully say ’tis your blood upon the sheets and none other.”

She smiled and patted the mattress beside her. “Come to bed, husband. It has been a strange night.”

He extinguished the candle and climbed into bed. He settled himself next to her and, when she did not flinch from his touch, nestled her head upon his breast. “’Tis not over yet.”

Blurb:

The worst betrayals come from within.

After a night of passion with her betrothed, Sir Geoffrey Longford, Lady Alyse de Courcy is eagerly looking forward to her wedding. But when Geoffrey is forced to marry another, a heartbroken and possibly pregnant Alyse finds herself in her own private hell. She must either gamble with her reputation or marry someone she does not love.

A reputed connoisseur of women, Thomas, Lord Braeton, has dallied with many ladies of King Edward’s court, although he has favored none. However, as Geoffrey’s best friend, Thomas has sworn to serve and protect Alyse, an oath now sorely tested when he agrees to marry her—in name only—to guard her reputation. Yet, as they grow closer, and Thomas discovers Alyse’s sweet but spirited nature, he comes to desire a marriage in truth.

Can he overcome her memory of Geoffrey, or is Thomas doomed to burn with passion for a woman he can never possess?

Weekend Writing Warriors ~ 04/29/18 Only Seduction Will Do ~ A Carriage Tryst

weekend_writing_warriors_header3

Only Seduction Will Do releases on June 5, 2018. Only 38 days until Release Day!

Welcome to my next set of snippets for Only Seduction Will Do, which will be out in early June. So sorry I couldn’t respond last Sunday–I was driving back from Memphis and drove more than I thought I would. But I’ll catch up both snippets when I visit today.

This week’s snippet jumps forward a bit. Jack and Alethea are rather abruptly leaving the Selham’s where they have had dinner because Jack has suddenly taken an amorous turn.

(Creative punctuation utilized to conform to WWW rules.)

Jack climbed into the carriage as Alethea settled herself, hope once more filling her with excitement. With the lustful looks her husband had been darting at her, and the rather obvious bulge in his breeches, their abrupt departure from the Selham’s must mean Jack had resolved his doubts about her and wanted to indulge in the intimacies of marriage. A pleasant shiver coursed down her spine and she wished with all her heart they were already home.

He waved briefly to their host, then leaned back in the seat, his gaze on her, his every muscle tense.

“Jack?” Her voice sounded hushed in the small dark space; she grasped his hand as it lay on his knee. “Are you all right, my dear?”

The next moment he seized her head and pulled her toward him so quickly their heads bumped.

“Ouch.” The sudden pain surprised the yelp out of her, then his lips crushed hers.

Only Seduction Will Do is available for pre-order at Amazon, B & N, Kobo, and Apple.

Excerpt:

He turned and lay down, tucking his hands beneath his head to stare at the stars through the leaves of the tree. He reached down and pulled the blanket over his legs. Regret and remorse kept him from sleep. The only thing he managed to think of was a cottage and Grace to come home to.

Blurb:

Lady Grace Willoughby defies her father’s orders to marry Sir William de Tracy and escapes with a friend. She has no intention of wedding a cursed man, a man ostracized from the church, a man who would only doom any future children they might have to the fires of Hell. She prays for a knight to rescue her.

Excommunicated and outcast for a horrible crime in his past, Sir William de Tracy searches for forgiveness. Marriage has never crossed his mind until Lord Willoughby commissions him to retrieve his fleeing daughter and honor the dying wish of his father by marrying Grace.

But things are not as they seem. And when an assassin tries to kill Grace, William must choose between his soul and the woman he has come to love. Can William and Grace overcome their past and find the redemption and love both are so desperately seeking?

Weekend Writing Warriors ~ 04/22/18 Only Seduction Will Do ~ Like a Fine Whiskey

weekend_writing_warriors_header3

Only Seduction Will Do releases on June 5, 2018. Only 45 days until Release Day!

Welcome to my next set of snippets for Only Seduction Will Do, which will be out in early June.

The butler has just brought Alethea the day’s post. We continue from the point we left off last week.

Oh, to hold that body against hers, to feel the whipcord strength with her own hands. The thought made her heat from top to toe. Certainly, it would be soon when she could hold him to her, have him hold her in those steely arms…

Lunging with a cry of victory, Jack thrust the button-tipped foil against the wall, touched it briefly, then stood smiling and wiped the thin sheen of sweat on his sleeve. He wagged his blade back and forth, then turned, and halted as soon as he saw her standing behind him. “I didn’t hear you, my dear.” He smiled roguishly, again mopping his brow with his sleeve. His breath came in sharp puffs so he’d obviously been at it for some time. “Is luncheon ready?”

Alethea had to force herself to speak—The sight of him so disheveled, the masculine scent of sweat rising off him, acted like a fine whiskey to her senses.

BLURB:

“Won’t you come to bed, my lord?”

And as their unexpected connection between silken sheets is tested by jealousy and misfortune, Jack must decide where honor ends…and true passion begins . . .
