Second Chance Love: A Regency Romance Set

I am so excited for this new set I’m in! The five other superb authors who are in the set and I have created an anthology of second-chance-at-love stories with the focus on older women, rather than the usual Regency virginal misses. These ladies are 30+ and ready for another try at finding their Happy Ever After. Here’s a look at our stories:

A Second Chance…a do-over? These ladies are not the young naïve girls they once were. Now they are WOMEN who know the value of love, who have faced challenges and aren’t afraid to seek what they want.

Come along as they risk it all for a second chance at a happily ever after.

Mrs. Sartin’s Secretary by Wendy LaCapra… Mrs. Amelia Sartin helms her late husband’s company and implicitly trusts her Secretary, Matthew Bellamy. However, as she cedes company control to her heir, can Bellamy persuade Amelia he is one thing she cannot leave behind?

To Hell and Back by Annabelle Anders… Eve Mossant’s life has been quite turned over. As has the carriage she was traveling in to attend her estranged husband’s funeral. Thank heavens for Mr. Waverly, her ever dependable man of business. She wouldn’t know where she’d be without him…

A Lady’s Guide to Marriage by Tabetha Waite… She’s never stopped loving him. He’s never stopped loving her. But is love enough to salvage a crumbling marriage, or will it be their ultimate undoing?

Heart of Decadence by Jenna Jaxon… Miss Amelia Burrowes was the scandal during her first Season, when her fiancée died. Ten years later, she’s back in London to make an arranged marriage that will hopefully allow her sisters to be received by the ton. But when Nathan, Lord Ainsley, arrives, the flame between them rekindles and Amelia must convince him that a woman with a past deserves a future.

A Letter From a Lady by Cynthia Sterling… Deserted by her husband, Lady Clarissa Delaware has opened her home as a respite for ailing gentry, but her newest lodger is a mystery man who seems far too interested in her. Will dangerous intrigue and forbidden passion unite Viscount Adam Kendrick and Lady Clarissa in a bond sure to cause scandal?

A Lady of Courage by Catherine Tinley… Following a scandalous elopement and a cloud of mystery over the legitimacy of her child, Elizabeth has spent years in exile, hiding away from society. Now back in London for the first time, can she find the courage to regain her place and find love?

The set is up on Amazon for pre-order and will also be available for KU readers when it releases on April 23!

If you’d like to read the first chapter of my novella, Heart of Decadence (Book 5 in my Handful of Hearts series), it’s available right here on my blog. See the pages at the top of this post. I’m also sharing snippets of Chapter 2 on Weekend Writing Warriors each Sunday, so you can keep up until the release.

Also, my novella ties into Heart of Desire, an earlier book in my series. In that one we first meet Nathan, Lord Ainsley, whose sister is the heroine of Book 2. To celebrate the upcoming release (and to introduce you to Nathan), I’ve put Heart of Desire on sale on Amazon for .99 thru April. So you can grab it and feed your reading habit until Second Chance Love comes out. 🙂

I’ll also be highlighting the entire series here on my blog this month. All the books are connected, with the characters reoccurring in each novella as the heroes and heroines come forward with their stories. I hope you like them all!

Weekend Writing Warriors ~ 04/07/19 Heart of Decadence ~ Bad Timing

Welcome back to WWW.

This week I’m continuing from my brand new novella, Heart of Decadence, Book 5 in my Handful of Hearts series. It will release on or about April 23 in a boxed set called Second Chance Love: A Regency Romance Set along with works from five other fabulous Regency authors.

BLURB:

Miss Amelia Burrowes was the scandal of the ton in her first Season, when her fiancée died and everyone assumed she was ruined. Ten years later, she’s back in London to make an arranged marriage that will hopefully allow her sisters to be received by the ton. But when Nathan, Lord Ainsley appears, the man she’d really had a tendre for all those years ago, the flame between them rekindles and Amelia must convince him that a woman with a past deserves a future.

In this snippet:  We follow on immediately from last week’s snippet. While at Lady Hamilton’s ball, Miss Amelia Burrowes has been found in the library by her suitor, Mr. Burke, who thinks because of her ruined reputation, he can take liberties. He has accosted her and does not want to take no for an answer. In the midst of their heated kiss, in walks a stranger. This snippet is from the POV of the stranger.

This snippet  may have been slightly altered to accommodate the WWW format.

EXCERPT:

Common sense told him he’d interrupted a sweet interlude between an affectionate couple; however, something in the back of his mind niggled at him about them.

“If you will pardon us, my lord,” the gentleman stepped toward the lady and tried to take her arm, though she shrugged him off, “you have interrupted us at a tender moment; the lady has just consented to be my wife.”

Definitely bad timing on Nathan’s part, so he said, “Your pardon then, Mr…?”

“Burke, my lord, Mr. Lawrence Burke of Derbyshire.”

“Mr. Burke,” Nathan bowed solemnly, “my felicitations to you and Miss—”

Sight of the lady’s wide eyes and a slight shake of her head gave him a new meaning for the scene: in Nathan’s experience young ladies sometimes sought to entrap a gentleman into marriage by being discovered with the man in question in a compromising position. From the lady’s subtle hints, he might be persuaded that in this case the gentleman might be compromising her for the same reason.

“Miss Burrowes, my lord,” Mr. Burke said and smiled broadly while the lady in question glanced about as though searching for a hole to drop into.

The name brought Nathan up short and he peered more closely at the woman. “Miss Amelia Burrowes?”

I’ll have more next week!

Here’s the pre-order link for the  Second Chance Love boxed set.

And for the month of April, to celebrate the book’s release, I’m putting Heart of Desire, Book 2 of the series, on sale on Amazon for .99 also. Book 2 introduces us to the Hero of Heart of Decadence as his sister and best friend take center stage in a Taming of the Shrew  style courtship.

And don’t forget to check out the rest of the Warriors here. There’s some fantastic snippets to be read.

Medieval Monday: First Meet! ~ Sherry Ewing’s If My Heart Could See You

MedMon

First Meet!

Welcome to Medieval Mondays! Our theme for this year’s first round is the hero and heroine’s first meet.

This week I’m hosting the fabulous Sherry Ewing and her medieval romance

If My Heart Could See You

Excerpt:

Dristan came towards the vision afore him whilst she stood her ground this time. He was impressed how she gazed at him directly, as if she in truth feared no man as she had said. He smiled at her again, noticing the unusual color of her deep violet eyes and saw her startled expression. He hesitated, if only for a second, afore he carefully reached for her hand holding the tartan in place to cover her features. He felt it tremble as the cloth fell away, and he brought her but a step or two closer to his side.

For once in his life Dristan could form no words as he stared down at the treasure afore his eyes. She was indeed more lovely than he had first thought, upon closer examination, and he was not sure how he would be able to let her go now that she was almost within his arms.

Be sure to leave a comment on Jenna’s blog to be in the running for Sherry’s giveaway – an eCopy of If My Heart Could See You. A winner will be randomly selected and announced on Medieval Monday, May 6th.

Blurb:

When you’re enemies, does love have a fighting chance?

For Amiria of Berwyck, defeat does not come easily as she watches her home and clan being ripped asunder. When the very enemy who has laid siege to her home demands her fealty, she will do whatever it takes to protect her people including a hastily concocted ruse that quickly begins to unravel. All too soon, she starts to question whether she can forgive herself for betraying those she has sworn to protect.

Dristan of Blackmore, champion knight of King Henry II, has a reputation to uphold as the Devil’s Dragon. After his invading army conquers Berwyck castle, he sets out to manage the newly claimed estate by training its knights in the art of proper defense. At first, everything appears as it should be, or is it? Betrayed by those he believed he could trust, he must first set aside his anger before he can make room in his heart for love.

Together they are tied by an unspoken bond. As they begin to rebuild the land and unite their people, forces beyond their control attempt to tear apart their fragile truce and only time will tell if love will forever bring them together.

Weekend Writing Warriors ~ 03/31/19 Heart of Decadence ~ Desperate Measures

I’m baaaack!

Wow, it’s been since February that I’ve been on WWW and I’ve missed you guys! In that time I’ve finished a 100K novel, finished a 28K novella, went to a reader event in Williamsburg, and helped put up a major musical production at my school. I’m ready for some R & R, so I thought I’d sign back up here.

This week I have a snippet from the brand new novella, Heart of Decadence, Book 5 in my Handful of Hearts series. It will release on or about April 26 in a boxed set called Second Chance Love: A Regency Romance Set along with works from five other fabulous Regency authors.

In this snippet:  While at Lady Hamilton’s ball, Miss Amelia Burrowes has been found in the library by her suitor, Mr. Burke, who thinks because of her ruined reputation, he can take liberties. He has accosted her and does not want to take no for an answer.

This snippet is unedited and may have been slightly altered to accommodate the WWW format.

EXCERPT:

He ran his tongue along the seam of her mouth, pushing insistently, trying to gain entry.

Oh, absolutely not. Once again she pushed against his chest, digging her palms into his jacket and trying frantically to back away.

The click of the library door opening froze Amelia as if she were a Greek statue.

“Kate, are you in here?”

The man’s voice spurred her to desperate measures–the one thing she couldn’t afford was to be compromised by Mr. Burke for then she’d be forced to marry him or become even more of an outcast in Society than she was presently. Praying for strength, she hauled back her hand and thumped him on his ear.

He grunted and released her.

Amelia sprang backward, her hands covering her mouth, scrubbing at her lips. Turning her gaze toward the door, she locked eyes with the startled gray-eyed gaze of a very tall, very handsome stranger.

I’ll have more next week and hopefully a link to the set very soon. 🙂

And don’t forget to check out the rest of the Warriors here. There’s some fantastic snippets to be read.

A Wicked Anniversary

Happy 1-Year Book Anniversary to

To Woo A Wicked Widow!

One year ago today, my Regency romance, To Woo A Wicked Widow, released in print to Barnes & Noble, Walmart, Books-A-Million, and Target.

I buy the first copy from Barnes & Noble, March 26, 2018

When getting ready for book launch I discover my book at Walmart!

Boy, that was a fast year! And a busy one. During 2018 Kensington published three of The Widow’s Club series and signed me to a contract for three more novels in the series.

On Saturday, March 31, I had my first book signing in a Barnes & Noble bookstore. Talk about thrilling! I invited lots of friends and family to help me celebrate at the Barnes & Noble bookstore in Williamsburg, VA. I had aunts, cousins, friends, and even some of my students come by and wish me well (and buy my book!).

My first Barnes & Noble signing!

My theatre students came by to wish me well!

My BFF Wayne, from college, came all the way across the state to be with me on this day.

My next book release for The Widows’ Club series will be Book 4, Much Ado About A Widow, set to release January 2020. I plan to have another book launch for that one, although as they say, there’s nothing like the first time. 🙂

The Widows’ Club series are all available also in e-book at Amazon, B & N, Kobo, Apple and Google. For these links, please click here.

Medieval Monday: First Meet! ~ Elisabeth Hobbes’s Beguiled by the Forbidden Knight

MedMon

First Meet!

Welcome to Medieval Mondays! Our theme for this year’s first round is the hero and heroine’s first meet.

This week I’m hosting the dashing Elisabeth Hobbes and her medieval romance

Beguiled by the Forbidden Knight

Excerpt:

The girl made a lunge at him as he neared her, fishing hook outstretched. He had
expected her to retreat to the far bank, not attack. Surprised at her ferocity, Gui flung
himself to one side. The hook gouged the length of his left forearm, drawing blood and
leaving a deep scratch. He roared in pain and whipped his arm away viciously.

His toe bashed a half-buried rock and he lurched under the water. Instinctively, he
reached out to steady himself and grasped hold of the nearest object. It turned out to be
the girl’s outstretched arm. His fingers closed around her wrist as he went back and then
she too was slipping below the surface.

It doesn’t look good for Gui. Find out what happens next Monday on Rue Allyn’s
blog https://www.rueallyn.com/blog/

Elisabeth is offering one reader chance to win an ebook copy of her brand new Scottish
romance, A Runaway Bride for the Highlander which comes out in May.   To be in with a
chance all you have to do is leave a comment on each excerpt.

Jenna here. If you’re following my snippets too, I’m on Elisabeth Hobbes’s blog today.

Blurb:

line between friend and enemy blurs, Aelfhild realizes she might be protecting her

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Although I’m probably not Irish at all, I love Ireland and absolutely love St. Patrick’s Day! This year I wanted to post, along with my traditional video of Danny Boy, pictures I recently unearthed of my first trip to Ireland, way back in 1979, of me kissing the Blarney Stone.

It’s really fortunate that I did it then, because with my fear of heights, I’d never be able to do it now! The stone is all the way up at the top of Blarney Castle.

So here’s wishing you a very Happy St. Patrick’s Day along with my favorite Irish Blessing:

May the road rise to meet you

May the wind be always at your back

The sun shine warm upon your face

The rain fall soft upon your fields

Until we meet again

May God hold you in the hollow of his hand;

And may you be in Heaven half an hour

before the devil knows you’re dead!

First Meet!

Welcome to Medieval Mondays! Our theme for this year’s first round is the hero and heroine’s first meet.

This week I’m hosting the delightful Rue Allyn and her medieval romance

The Herald’s Heart

Excerpt:

Of a sudden, the silence hit. ’Tis the fog. It deadens all sound. He wished for the comforting clop of iron-shod hooves on dirt. He shivered in the enveloping chill and took a deep breath of mist-laden air. The salt tang reassured him. At least he hadn’t ridden off a cliff into the sea. Talon smiled at his own foolishness. If his steed would not go forward on its own, he would dismount and lead the animal.
