Interview with Randal Sessoms from Debut Author Ali Baran’s Tessa

cover

Today I’m welcoming Randal Sessoms, the hero from Ali Baran’s debut novel, Tessa oo The Journal for a little “chat.”

  1. What was your first impression of your writer?

Ali’s adorable. She and Tessa have a lot in common, but Ali is tougher. She has a real bulldog characteristic that makes her good at what she’s doing.

  1. How did you and the heroine meet

I fell while skiing and before knees were completely healed, I tripped on a grandson’s toy and had to have major surgery. I was in a wheelchair, and I needed some help around the house. They call them personal assistants: they do minor housework, run errands, whatever I needed. My daughter wanted someone who could watch over me 24/7. I spotted the ad Tessa had run and called my daughter. The rest is history.

  1. What is your greatest strength? Greatest weakness? How have they shaped your life?

I’d say I’m a good gambler. I can assess the odds and make a cold hard decision. I don’t let emotions get in the way.

Weakness? None! That’s a flaw in a man that will be his undoing.

It’s made me an incredible lawyer. I have the ability to be completely ruthless, because I cut to the bone without flinching.

  1. What first drew you to your heroine?

Several things. The way she carried herself, her general demure, and her brains all wrapped into a lovely female package.

  1. If you could be in any profession, what would you do and why?

Been there and done that. For thirty years, I was a successful lawyer with a thriving practice. I loved almost every minute of it. But history, and its unfolding through archeology, is of special interest to me. Reading about history has fed some deep thirst of mine. I’m totally captivated by previous civilizations. Now I can dabble in digs.

  1. So, in your story, what was the most memorable moment for you?

When Tessa came to me that first time. I think she was afraid I would reject her or think less of her. We weren’t a couple or even dating. Yet there she was, young and beautiful; she had awakened my needs as a man. It was wonderful.

  1. What do you do for fun?

Tessa and I enjoy traveling and being on dig sites. I knew Tessa would love it. She especially loves the evenings when we sit around talking.

  1. Would you like for your writer to create a sequel for you? Why or why not?

Once was enough. I’m not expecting any great changes. It took me sixty-three years to discover a woman who made my life worth living. Now I’m thankful for every day I have with her.

  1. What do you do for a living?

I don’t need to do anything. I already did that. Now I’m busy living and enjoying the fruits of my labor.

  1. What is your greatest fear?

Losing Tessa. I lost my first wife. I don’t want to lose Tessa.

  1. What do you wear when you go to sleep?

I always wore pajama bottoms. But since Tessa has entered my life, I don’t wear anything unless I must.

  1. What is your most prized possession?

Tessa. She is my priceless possession. And my second most priceless possession is our daughter, Jillianne.

  1. What do you think your greatest weakness is?

See number three.

  1. What do you think is your strongest attribute?

See number three. Are certain you are not a lawyer? Ask the same question by changing it slightly to see if you’ll get a different response?

  1. What are you proudest of?

Having lived a worthwhile and successful life.

  1. What is most attractive to you about the opposite sex?

All through out time, women are depicted by breasts. They symbolize the female form. And being a man, I do notice. I also notice a nice pair of legs and a well-formed derrière. Beautiful, healthy women come in all sizes and shapes. Each body type has its own special splendor. Each and every female attribute is worthy of more than a passing glance.

But women are more than body parts. A woman can be beautiful, but she needs more than beauty for a second look from me. Nothing captivates me more than the beauty of an intelligent mind. And when it comes finely packaged, as it does in Tessa, it’s thrilling.

  1. What trait or characteristic do you most dislike about the opposite sex?

That whole helpless, emotional, whining thing females do. Get over it. We all face things in life that are unpleasant. If you don’t want to do it, then don’t. If it must be done, then tackle it. If you don’t know how or what to do – ask.

  1. What’s your favorite thing to do on a rainy afternoon?

Lounge around, drink coffee, read, and make love to my fantastic wife. Such days now include changing diapers and playing on the floor with my daughter.

  1. What’s your favorite animal?

I don’t think I have a single favorite. There are so many animals in this world and all of them have a uniqueness.

  1. Have you ever thought about getting a tattoo, what would it be and where?

Tessa and already have matching ones. Being on digs usually means forgoing our wedding rings, so we decided to have our rings tattooed. If we’re wearing our bands, they don’t show.

Thank you so much, Randal, for sharing so much with us today.  And now Ali has something to share too.

Tessa is my first book but it won’t be my last. Tell me what you think is the magic behind finding Mr. Wonderful and what makes him different. If you leave your email address, I’ll toss your name into the hat this month for a $20 gift certificate to Starbucks. The winner will be drawn on Christmas and announced on my blog. http://alibaranauthor.wordpress.com

Blurb for Tessa:

Years of wisdom have taught Randal that it’s not the destination but the journey that makes everything worthwhile. When the tentative friendship between silver fox Randal and young Tessa bursts into lust, it ignites a passionate affair that leaves them both trembling. There’s nothing more fulfilling than a beautiful woman in the arms of a man who can appreciate everything she has to offer.

As Randal embarks on a second career and Tessa is preparing for her chosen field, Randal’s daughter flounders in a sea of depression. When Randal’s love for his daughter is pitted against his love for Tessa, can there be a winner?

Excerpt for Tessa:

In the water, Randal didn’t act like an invalid. Those piercing blue eyes sparkled and his body was ripped, better than any guy Tessa had dated. The man was damn sexy, and in the week she’d known him, she’d grown to like him—maybe too much. Way too much. Aside from a few thin, pink scar lines over his knees, no one would have believed he was living in a wheel chair.

He trapped her against the side of the pool and held her prisoner between his arms.

She turned and faced him. Now she stared into those beautiful blue orbs and caught the grin that crinkled the skin at the outer edges of his eyes. “You have the most beautiful eyes I’ve ever seen.”

“And you have a beautiful body.”

She inhaled as he drew himself nearer. His breath flowed over her face. She closed her eyes and she prayed he’d kiss her.

A finger touched her jaw, and she opened her eyes. He was inches from her with a warm smile on his face. Heaving in a deep breath, she hoped to cool the sensation building in her, but she couldn’t stop it. She tried to imagine his lips on hers. His finger traced her entire face, including her lips. She parted her mouth and touched her tongue to his roaming finger.

“Damn woman. You’re giving me an erection.”

She cast her gaze toward his trunks but she couldn’t stop the grin that was pulling on the edges of her lips.

His finger went down her neck and followed the edge of her bikini top. Her chest rose with his touch. Heat flowed through her, settling between her legs. She had never been one to have casual sex, but she was not a virgin. Right now, she wanted fulfillment. She tried to tell herself that older men weren’t usually capable of sexual intercourse, but somehow she figured this man was quite capable. His fingers splayed over her breast. And a moan escaped from someplace deep in her throat. She wanted to wrap her legs around his waist and pull him closer to her.

She pushed past him and headed for the stairs. She had to get a grip on her feelings because inside she felt as though she was about to shatter into a million pieces.

He followed her. “Tessa, I’m sorry if I’ve offended you. I meant no harm.”

She turned and touched her fingers to his lips. “We’re adults.”

“Don’t leave. I won’t do it again. But seeing you has awakened something inside of me.”

“Yeah. I know that feeling.” She walked up the stairs and found a towel before turning back to him. “Do you need help getting out?”

“No, not yet. I need to swim some more. I try to swim every morning that I don’t have therapy. You just aren’t here. So to answer your question, yes, I can get in and out by myself.”

She settled onto a chaise lounge and watched him in the water. He was as graceful as a dolphin as he swam lap after lap. She couldn’t help but admire his body. Even his legs had beautiful muscle definition. Inside, she still quaked. There was something about him—something dangerously sexy, and she felt it to her toes.

Author Bio:

I’m young, single, college educated, and looking for Mr. Wonderful. I’m also a minimalist. The less I have, the less I have to clean! Some people save for Christmas, but I save for vacations. I’ll go wherever it’s warm with plenty of sun and water. Some women collect shoes – I collect bathing suits. The last time I counted, I owned forty-two suits. Why do you think I try to stay in shape?

I’ve always been an avid reader, and there’s nothing I love more than a sexy romance. My e-reader stays packed with books. By day, I’m tame and conservative, but once I leave work, the real me emerges. I always have a hunky guy calendar hanging over my desk at home. I kept February up until April rolled around. He was just too delicious. Some guys are worth the fantasy. I want a guy in real life who can kiss me and make my toes tingle. So far it hasn’t happened anyplace but in books.

So there you have it. I’m about as exciting as my pet goldfish. The big difference is that I have a computer, a muse, and I know how to use both. I don’t think Goldie gives much thought to having Mr. Golden swim into her life and she’s already got the castle. I believe she’s missing out on a lot of fun!

Alphabet Post: Y is for Yarrow

I really couldn’t find a decent word for a letter X post, so I’ve skipped on to Y. The letter Y  is for yarrow, a medicinal plant in use for centuries in the Northern Hemisphere.  It’s a weed that grows during the summer and has been used to treat a variety of illnesses.

yarrow02-l

Yarrow–also called milefoil, Soldier’s Woundwart, Knights milefoil, and Nose Bleed– if made into a tea, is used to treat severe colds and fever as it induces sweating. It has also been used as a treatment for hemorrhoids and kidney disorders.  As a topical application, it has been used to prevent baldness if the head is washed with a decoction of it.

Another strange property of this herb is that both causes the nose to bleed if rubbed on the inside of the nostril (apparently to relieve headache), but it will also stop a nose bleed and in ancient times was used as a styptic.

If the fresh leaves are chewed, they are said to cure toothache.

It can also, apparently, be used to divine your true love, according to A Modern Herbal:

“An ounce of Yarrow sewed up in flannel and placed under the pillow before going to bed, having repeated the following words, brought a vision of the future husband or wife:

‘Thou pretty herb of Venus’ tree,

Thy true name it is Yarrow;

Now who my bosom friend must be,

Pray tell thou me to-morrow.’—(Halliwell’s Popular Rhymes, etc.)”

If not, then welcome back to Free Read Friday. This is my day to give my fans a little treat on with a free read from either a current WIP or one of my published novels or novellas.  And sometimes the free read will be a completely new piece written just for this post, or perhaps a scene taken out of a novel in editing–something that no one but me and my editor has seen. 🙂

If you seem to like this new feature (leave me a comment and tell me if you do), I’ll make it a Friday fixture. 🙂

For this installment of Free Read Friday, I’m posting another one of the Christmas stories from my Christmas collection, All Wrapped Up.  It’s called “The Kissing Tree,” a sweet story about two kids who find a very secret spot out in the woods on Christmas Day.

If you like this short story you might also like the other three in the anthology, available at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Click the title below to take you to Free Read Friday.  This Free Read is rated PG. Like I said, it’s sweet. 🙂

Book Blast: A Measure of Deceit by Jess Michaels

MeasureOfDeceit-A300

Blurb:

The Ladies Book of Pleasures, now credited with two marriages and countless other affairs and liaisons, has Society all aflutter. The one person not benefitting from its scandalous advice? The author herself.

From the safety of her anonymity, Lady Grace Hollis, Duchess of Jameswood, enjoys the blissful results of her handiwork—and pretends she does not miss the passionate proclivities she penned. But when her handsome editor begins making the rounds of Society parties, she wonders how long her secret will be safe.

Connor Sheridan wants—needs—to know the answer to the one burning question on everyone’s lips: the mystery writer’s identity. And it’s not just because their correspondence, delivered via untraceable couriers, has made him smile, frown, or imagine her engaged in erotic escapades—with him.

Other letters have begun landing on his desk, letters written by a decidedly unfriendly hand. And though it may threaten her reputation, the safest place for her could very well be his arms. Whether she likes it or not.

Jenna’s 411 ~ Cover Reveal! An Almost Perfect Christmas

Welcome! I’m back with this week’s installment of Jenna’s 411 which is all Book News!

Book Chat ~ Cover Reveal

That’s right, I have a cover reveal today for my Christmas short story, An Almost Perfect Christmas.  I wrote this as a piece of flash fiction the year that Almost Perfect released the first time, so I thought it fitting, since it is the Christmas season, to re-release this story as well, with a few additions.  It’s longer than the original 1200 words, it’s got a nice, hot sex scene in there this time, and best of all it’s FREE! Yes, when An Almost Perfect Christmas releases it will be a free read on Amazon, Smashwords, ARe, and Barnes & Noble. So if you already read the adventures of Pam and Roger, you’ll enjoy reading about their first Christmas together.  If you haven’t met this couple yet, this tale will be a nice introduction and hopefully leave you wanting more of their exploits.

So without further ado, here is the stunning cover for An Almost Perfect Christmas. My cover designer wasn’t Danielle Fine this time, but rather the same designer who did the cover for my Christmas collection, Alexandra Christle.  Alex, you did it again.  Merry Christmas!

Jenna Fun Fact of the Week

9780451199973In the Romance Adventures Blog Hop, I asked the hoppers to  tell me the name of their favorite Romance author and their favorite work by that author. But I never told you mine.  Some of you who’ve read interviews with me may already know this, but my all time favorite romance author is Jo Beverley.  And my favorite work by her is Devilish. I love her Malloren series, but this one keeps me on the edge of my  seat every time I read it, so afraid it’s not going to end happily. The odds for an HEA are horrible, but love does triumph and I heave a joyous sigh each time it does. 🙂

Spotlight on Triumph and Treasure by Collette Cameron

updatedTriumphandTreasure_850HIGH

Triumph and Treasure

Highlander Heather Romancing a Scot Series

A disillusioned Scottish gentlewoman.

Angelina Ellsworth once believed in love—before she discovered her husband of mere hours was a slave-trader and already married. To avoid the scandal and disgrace, she escapes to her aunt and uncle’s, the Duke and Duchess of Waterford. There, Angelina learns she is with child and poses as a widow, hoping the cur she married won’t find her as he’s sworn to do. Determined to establish a comfortable life for herself and her unborn child, Angelina vows she’ll never allow her emotions or a man to victimize her again.

A privileged English lord.

Flynn, the Earl of Luxmoore, leads an enchanted life. Powerful, charming, and perpetually cheerful, he’s wooing the woman he hopes will soon be his countess. His well-laid plans are crushed when his father, the Marquis of Bretheridge, commits suicide after losing everything to the Duke of Waterford in a gaming wager. Stripped of all but his title, Flynn is thrust into the role of marquis as well as provider for his disabled sister and invalid mother. Unable to pay his father’s astronomical gambling debt, Flynn faces social and financial ruin.

Waterford suggests a repugnant solution to Angelina and Flynn’s dilemmas. The duke will forgive the entire debt if Flynn marries Angelina. Desperate to protect his family, Flynn accepts Waterford’s proposition, though it borders on blackmail. Reluctant to marry a stranger, to protect her unborn child and escape the clutches of the madman who still pursues her, Angelina agrees to the union—but only for a year.

Can Flynn and Angelina salvage anything from a marriage neither one wanted, or will they go their separate ways when the year ends?

Publisher: Soul Mate Publishing

EXCERPT

Angelina had no business taking note of any gentleman’s appearance, especially his mouth. And what in heaven’s blessed name was she doing sitting in a tree, talking with him as if they were making polite conversation in a drawing room? She didn’t even know his name, for pity’s sake.

“Can you get down yourself?”

He dismounted. After removing his gloves and hat, he placed them on the same boulder she’d used for her stockings. He spied her discarded belongings, his gaze pausing on a stocking dangling from a bush. A purely masculine smile bowed his mouth.

Mortification swept her.

He held his riding crop as he purposefully made his way to the tree. He placed a booted foot atop the branch resting on the ground. “Here, I’ll come up.”

“No, I can manage perfectly on my own. You assure that devil keeps his distance.”

Sure-footed, Angelina edged along, her bare feet gripping the limb beneath her. Her injured toe protested, but the pain was unimportant. She must make haste. It wouldn’t do to be discovered with a man without a chaperone present.

The stranger released a hearty chuckle and raised the crop. “That’s what this is for. One or two sound smacks on his muzzle usually does the trick nicely.”

Usually?

“And what happens if it doesn’t do the trick?” She maneuvered the last few inches to the fork in the tree.

The gentlemen pointed the crop at the tree. “We run for it. He’s not named Deamhan for nothing.”

She sniffed. “Deamhan? Oh, that’s Scottish?”

“Yes, Gaelic for demon.”

“A most fitting name. Only Satan would be more appropriate.”

Shoving hair off her face, she stepped onto the lowest limb and hesitated a moment before taking his outstretched hand. She nearly jerked hers away when a jolt of sensation vibrated clear to her shoulder.

Once safely on the ground, she disengaged her hand. “Thank you.”

“I’d bow before I introduce myself, but I don’t trust him.” Gesturing toward the dozing bull, the man flashed perfect white teeth.

Of course they were. Just like Charles’s. And what a bounder he’d turned out to be.

New rule.

Don’t trust men with nice teeth.

She met the gentleman’s curious perusal.

Or beautiful eyes and sinfully thick lashes.

“I’m Flynn, Ear—” A grimace shadowed his face. “Marquis of Bretheridge. My estate, Lambridge Manse, borders these lands.”

“Thank you, my lord.”

Should she curtsy? A little late for conventions. Best to get on her way as soon as possible.

Not trusting the behemoth resting a stone’s throw away, Angelina warily gathered her belongings.

The marquis’s focus sank to her bare feet.

Muddy toes, one bloody, peeked from beneath her soaked and soiled skirt.

She swore his mouth quivered in amusement.

The first English peer she’d met besides her uncle, and she resembled a street urchin. Aunt Camille would have apoplexy if she found out. And Uncle Ambrose?

Gads.

Angelina didn’t want to imagine his reaction. His response would be unpleasant to be sure.

She made to turn toward the house. “Thank you, again.”

“Aren’t you going to tell me who you are?” Lord Bretheridge regarded her expectantly.

In another time and in another place, she might have— before she learned not to trust.

Escape from Bedlam: Interview with Alice Collins from A Right to Love by Liza O’Connor

A RIGHT TO LOVE

J&A Spinoff blog tour n hops

Today I have Liza O’Connor’s character Alice Collins from A Right to Love.

Jenna: Welcome, Alice. I understand you are a friend of Victor Hamilton from the Adventures of Xavier & Vic series.

Alice in old dress (1892) small

Alice: I am. We were best of friends for many years. Then as we matured and my step-father kept demanding I marry the various odious young men he forced me to entertain, I realized Vic was far superior in all ways and unlike these cretins, he would never steal my fortune or take over my estate farms and run them into the ground. So I tried my hardest to make him fall in love with me, which unfortunately had the reverse effect than I’d hoped for. Instead of drawing him in, my every effort scared him away. When in desperation, I went to Claire, asking for her assistance.

Instead of help, she picked up a picture from her shelf and laid it on the bed between us. Then she advised me to look elsewhere, for her brother would never marry. All the while she tapped on the picture frame.

At first I thought she meant he preferred other young men, but her constant tapping caused me to take note of the picture. It was of her aunt and two young girls. The younger girl was Claire, but the older girl confused me, for she had Vic’s facial features. I cannot tell you how stunned to the core I was when I realized what it meant. I had known Vic for years and never once had I suspected he was anything but a boy.

Claire then made me swear to never tell anyone. I, of course, promised her I wouldn’t.

Jenna: But you just shared it with the entire world.

Alice: Your world, not mine. And in your world, Liza O’Connor has already told everyone that my childhood best friend was a young girl who decided life would be better if she became a boy. And he is the finest young man I’ve ever met. And now to all his other attributes, he determined where my vicious step-father had hidden my mother and with the help of Jacko B. Goodnow, saved her from being murdered and enabled me to meet and fall in love with a fabulous man. Without Victor, I would have lost my mother, gone to prison for killing my step-farther and never meet Jacko.

Jenna: It sounds as if you still love Victor.

Alice: Without question, I do. Only it is a love of deep friendship. To be honest, once I discovered Vic’s secret, I gave up on men. I intended to remain single for my entire life. But when Jacko rescued and brought my mother home, I fell in love with him at first sight. I had not thought such a thing possible. But he was everything I wanted in a man: kind, loving, caring, honest, brave…

Jenna: I believe he’s also a gypsy, pirate, and thief. By his own admission, he has also murdered people

Alice: He was never a pirate by choice, but, yes, he is a gypsy by birth.J&A Spinoff 640

Jenna: That won’t go over well in society.

Alice: We are telling people in my time he is a wealthy Spaniard and his name is Jacon Bienora. As to his love of stealing, he only takes something for good reasons, such as stealing my mother from Bedlam, and to the deaths attributed to him: he has only done so for the good of his country or when forced to defend himself, neither of which, do I consider murder.

Jenna: He sounds most intriguing, let’s find out more.

unnamed

Jacko, a gypsy with a great love for stealing, rescues a suffragette from Bedlam. Upon returning the elderly woman to safety, he meets her blue-stocking daughter. Alice has decided she prefers managing her estate farms over London society. She is resigned to never marry until the handsome and surprisingly wealthy man with a dark past and several identities steals her heart.

unnamed

Rob shook his head and smiled. “I apologize if I have embarrassed you. It is only that your people are worried about their futures. They fear you will marry a gentleman from town and return to London, or you will not marry at all, and leave us with no future. So they sent me to speak to you.”

“About?”

“About marrying the right type of fellow. I know you are a fine lady, but it seems to me you don’t particularly care for the ‘fine’ gentlemen, at least not the one you nearly drowned two years ago.”

Alice laughed in outrage. “I did not drown him. I simply turned over the boat to see whom he would save, himself or me. When he clung to the boat and left me to sink or swim, I swam to shore‒end of story.”

“He remained out there for several hours, bleating like a frightened lamb.”

Alice realized Rob’s house was on the other side of the lake. “I apologize if he upset your sheep.”

“You laugh, but my sheep were unsettled for a week from all that noise.” Rob sobered. “If you don’t care for the gents, might you consider someone a bit humbler in birth, but stronger in character? I think character is what you find missing among the gentry. You deserve a man who thinks of you first, who steps forward when danger approaches and would face death to keep you safe.”

His words shocked her, as did her heart’s reaction to them. Dear God, he voiced exactly what she wanted.

About the author liza

Liza O’Connor was raised badly by feral cats, left the South/Midwest and wandered off to find nicer people on the east coast. There she worked for the meanest man on Wall Street, while her psychotic husband tried to kill her three times. (So much for finding nicer people.) Then one day she declared enough, got a better job, divorced her husband, and fell in love with her new life where people behaved normally. But all those bad behaviors has given her lots of fodder for her humorous romances. Please buy these books, because otherwise, she’ll become grumpy and write troubled novels instead. They will likely traumatize you.

You have been warned.

Saving Casey – Old woman reincarnates into troubled teen’s body. (Half funny/half traumatizing)

Ghost LoverTwo British brothers fall in love with the same young woman. Ancestral ghost is called in to fix the situation. And there’s a ghost cat that roams about the book as well. (Humorous Contemporary Romance)

Passionate Kisses

Check out my post on Nights of Passion–Passionate Kisses–with tips for writing a kiss scene.

Jenna Jaxon's avatarNights of Passion

C_un_smac_2013-10-24_20-45

Most romance readers love to read the scenes in which the characters they’ve become invested in finally share a passionate kiss. If the author has done her job, the reader is as ready as they are for this first intimate step. I’ve done some research and found some very sound advice about how to construct a kissing scene.

96px-Francesco_Hayez_008Blogger Miss Literati breaks the process down into five steps for creating the perfect kissing scene: find the perfect moment, create the build-up, have the characters “notice” something about one another, the kiss itself, and the pull away. This may make the kiss sound too technical, but if you think back on some of the best kisses you’ve read, you’ll find all of these steps in place.

Three pieces of advice from the writers at WriteWorld add to the process. “Don’t write kiss, write everything else.” Which means you need to get…

For this installment of Free Read Friday, I’m posting one of the Christmas stories from my Christmas collection, All Wrapped Up.  It’s called “Sing a Christmas Carol,” about the leader of a choir who’s got to fire one of his singers just before a big Christmas competition.

If you like this short story you might also like the other three in the anthology, available at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Click the title below to take you to Free Read Friday.  This Free Read is rated PG-13.

Romance Adventures Blog Hop! Dec. 4-7

Romance AdventuresSince we’re supposed to be on a Romance Adventure, I’m going to share my upcoming historical romance, Only Marriage Will Do, Book 2 of my House of Pleasure series with you.

Below you will find my PRIZE LIST and the Blog Hop List of other authors you’ll want to check out (they may have prizes too!) because they write awesome romantic adventures. Now for a peek at my latest romantic adventure!

My hero and heroine, Amiable Dawson and Lady Juliet Ferrers embark on a Romance Adventure, fleeing a man who claims to be Lady Juliet’s husband, and ending up in the wilds of northern England.  Will they find romance and love or merely danger along the way?

Blurb:

Not every happy-ever-after begins at “I do.”

When the hero of her dreams rescues Lady Juliet Ferrers from the man claiming to be her husband, she is sure she has found her one true love. But is she free to marry him? Not to be deterred, Juliet arranges for her hero, Captain Amiable Dawson, to escort her to her family estate, hoping that along the way she can win his love.

Amiable is charmed by the sweet, beautiful woman he rescued, and although he has grave reservations about her marital status, he allows himself to be swept up into Juliet’s romantic spell and the promise of a happy-ever-after.

The spell breaks when legal questions arise and Juliet faces the horror of not knowing if she is married to her knight in shining armor or the cruel viscount who is determined to have her at any price.

Excerpt:

London

July 2, 1761

The brass lion-head knocker under Amiable Dawson’s hand sent a sharp rap through the dark walnut door of Dunham House for the second time. The hot July sun hadn’t done his temper any good as he waited on the marble stoop for entrance to the Marquess of Dalbury’s townhouse. He’d been in a foul mood ever since the news of his beloved Katarina’s marriage to the marquess had reached him. Blast it to hell, he was supposed to have married the girl. At least he could make sure she was well and well taken care of by this man she had married.

At last a short, dark-haired maid opened the door. She took one look at him, gasped, and stepped back into the house. Her eyes widened and she glanced to her right, wringing her hands. “Who may I say—”

A man shouted from within. “No, I do not believe you.”

“It is true, I tell you!” A woman’s voice, raised and sharp with terror, sent a chill through Amiable.

Katarina. What in God’s name?

He barged past the stunned girl and strode down the hall toward the commotion. He burst through the doorway, expecting to defend the woman he loved, only to stop dead at the sight of a man lunging across a sofa and grasping a woman by the wrist. Amiable had half drawn his sword before he realized the woman was not Katarina, but a complete stranger. He dropped it back into its scabbard. This was none of his affair.

The young man, foppishly dressed in a robin’s egg blue satin coat dripping too many layers of frothy lace at throat and wrists looked at Amiable, a snarl on his lips.

Taking advantage of the distraction, the woman wrenched her arm from the man’s grip. “Praise God. Here he is.” She staggered as she righted herself. “Now you will have to believe me, Philippe.”

The fop scrambled back off the sofa and groped for a black lacquer walking stick that lay on the floor. Lips pressed together, he glowered at the woman. “That remains to be seen, ma chere. In any case, I have shown you the papers. They speak for themselves.”

The woman ran from behind the sofa to Amiable’s side, grazed a kiss over his cheek and whispered, “For God’s sake, help me. I am alone here and he is trying to take me away. Please, agree with whatever I say.”

Smiling into her pleading face, he grasped her hands and gave them a gentle squeeze to signal his acquiescence. “Whatever is the matter, my dear?” Hell if he knew. But he could play his part, even with little information. Let the lady lead and he’d follow as well as he could.

The woman smiled then took a deep breath. “My dear, may I present Viscount St. Cyr?” She nodded toward the fop. “Philippe, this is my husband, the Earl of Manning.”

Only Marriage Will Do is set to release in SPRING 2015.

In the meantime, if you’d like a further taste of my Georgian world, why not start with Book 1 of the House of Pleasure series, Only Scandal Will Do, available from Kensington at Amazon and B & N.

One more scandal and he’ll be cast out of London society, but he needs a wife who’ll provide an heir to carry on his illustrious family’s name.
