Medieval Monday with Ashley York

MedMon

Welcome back to Medieval Monday.  My guest today is medieval author Ashley York with her newest release, The Gentle Knight.

TheGentleKnight5_300BLURB: A medieval soldier returns home to find his lover died in childbirth just as his own mother had. Believing he is cursed, Peter of Normandy turns from love. When he must give escort to an Irish princess more noble than many knights, he struggles with his decision to live a solitary life. Can he take the chance that his love won’t be a death sentence and possibly make them stronger?

Padraig MacNaughton’s death-bed decree rips his daughter, Brighit, from the shelter of her protective clan in Ireland. Forced to take vows at a Priory in England, she finds herself in the hands of lecherous mercenaries with their own agendas. Dare she trust the Norman knight to see her safely to her new life as a nun? Even when she finds in him the fulfillment of all she’s ever wanted?

Or will honor and duty eclipse their one chance for happiness?

EXCERPT:. She had dreamed of him! All at once it came to her. He had taken her into his strong arms and held her tight against that hard body. Every muscle pressing into her. Then the touch of his warm lips sliding along her cheek to meet her mouth with a hungry kiss. Brighit had actually felt his lips on hers and that same heat swirled through her now.

She sighed. Yes. It was a very nice dream.

The shock of cold air accompanied with the sound of the curtain being dragged back had her eyes flying open. There in front of her was the man from the lake… the one in her very real dream. In the flash of a second, his eyes changed from wide with shock to a look she’d swear spoke of pleasure.

“And what is this?” He tipped his chin toward her, a knowing smile gracing his pleasing face.

Brighit covered herself. One arm across her breasts and one hand over her private parts. She felt like Eve posing in the Garden of Eden.

The sudden silence stole her breath away. She refused to confirm it but knew all eyes were on her.

“Do you mind?” Ivan’s voice cut through the awkward moment as he stood next to the carriage. He yanked the curtain from the fine-looking man’s hand, dropping it back in place. Brighit was again cocooned in darkness.

“Yours?” The man’s voice was low, resonating through her core. It was as appealing as his body.

She took a steadying breath, trying to calm her nerves enough to cover herself. She couldn’t have done a better job of calling attention to herself if she’d tried.

Just how many men were out there? How many men had seen her without so much as a stitch of clothing? She yanked the chemise down but it refused to cooperate. The sopping material bunched at her hips. She grabbed at her gown, her hands shaking with the rage coursing inside her.

That now familiar sound of fist-against-flesh cut through the silence.

An unfamiliar laugh. His laugh. A slight tremor responded through her insides.

“Mort,” the handsome man called to someone.

The indistinct image of a shorter man with a gaping mouth came to mind. “Yes, my lord?”

“I believe this man was about to take a terrible misstep with his fist. Does it seem to you these men have a certain…lack of knowledge?” he asked.

What arrogance!

Ivan’s angry face came to mind. She shivered. The handsome man did not know who he was dealing with.

“I would say that it does.” The shorter man was closer now.

“Mayhap some learning is required?”

“Do you believe it’s possible, my lord? Are they trainable?”

“They have a naked woman in a carriage while they fight out here over who will get her.”

She gasped, a soundless intake of air. Like a standard being dropped, the men talked at once. Tears threatened and a few leaked down her cheek. She wiped them away. She was only trying to clean herself not be fought over. Who was he to say such cruel things about her?

The morning had started out so promising. They’d had a nice time breaking their fast with very little interaction at all. Cole’s offer of extra water had come as a surprise but not one she wanted to miss.

Sudden silence. Brighit held her breath.

“And what would your name be?”

“I am called Ivan.”

“And this…young lady?”

This was just getting worse and worse. His words fairly dripped derision.

“Brighit.” She answered for herself albeit through a clenched jaw from within the carriage.

“Ireland? You’ve taken her from Ireland?”

Brighit was surprised at his ability to name where she’d come from. She wished she were still there… any place but here. This was infuriating. She could not go out there now. They may have imagined her naked and their occasional lustful glances assured her that they did. But to have them actually see her was beyond embarrassment. Embarrassment only increased by the fact that at least two of them weren’t even known to her.

“That I have.” Ivan’s smug voice drifted to her.

Whoreson!

“Please clothe yourself forthwith.”

He must be facing her now for he sounded very close. A warmth tingled up her spine. No! His voice may be low and quiet but there was nothing intimate about this situation. She struggled with the ties up the front of her dress.

“It’s what I’ve been trying to do.” Her irritation came through in her tone of voice. Good!

“And I wonder why you have not been successful thus far.” He had the nerve to sound irritated? “Just do it… and be quick about it.”

Arrogance oozed from the man!

“Yes, my lord.” She clipped her words, struggling with her wimple, and hoped her sarcasm carried through the curtain.

“Hurry up.”

“I am hurrying!” Her thick hair refused to cooperate but she was not about to go out there with so much as a single strand visible.

The man cleared his throat. Brighit would like to take a knife to it. He may be pleasant to look at but his manners lacked even the slightest courtesy.

Weekend Writing Warriors ~ 4/12/15 Only Marriage Will Do

weekend_writing_warriors_header3

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors!

I’m back again this week  with more of my soon to be released Georgian historical Only Marriage Will Do.

This is the second book in The House of Pleasure series, the next book after Only Scandal Will Do in which we will find out just what happened to the Marquess of Dalbury’s sister, Juliet.  There has been some very creative punctuation demonstrated in this snippet this week to make it 8 sentences. Please forgive the awkwardness and run-on sentences. 🙂

In my snippet this week, I’m back-tracking to earlier in the novel. Juliet has just asked Amiable to  play along and pose as her husband to get rid of the man who claims to be her husband.

Marriage 2

“May I suggest you apologize, my lord, unless you wish to meet me tomorrow morning?” Amiable pointed his sword tip at St. Cyr’s mouth. “I will be much obliged to cut that offensive tongue out at your earliest convenience.” At last action he could take satisfaction in. He’d savor the anticipation of such a meeting.

St. Cyr paled a trifle as he looked from him to Juliet. “Forgive me, mon ange,” he addressed her, “for recalling past intimacies that should have remained in the memories of just us two.”

Not the most contrite plea for forgiveness, but nothing more seemed forthcoming, so reluctantly, he executed a slight bow, acknowledged the dubious apology, and sheathed his blade.

Cover Reveal ~ Only Marriage Will Do ~ Final Excerpt

And a final new excerpt for Friday! Taking a page from a friend’s post called Friday Flames, this excerpt is a bit hotter than the rest!  Enjoy!

ONLY MARRIAGE WILL DO

Marriage 2

Not every happy-ever-after begins at “I do.”

When the hero of her dreams rescues Lady Juliet Ferrers from the man claiming to be her husband, she is sure she has found her one true love. But is she free to marry him? Not to be deterred, Juliet arranges for her hero, Captain Amiable Dawson, to escort her to her family estate, hoping that along the way she can win his love.

Amiable is charmed by the sweet, beautiful woman he rescued, and although he has grave reservations about her marital status, he allows himself to be swept up into Juliet’s romantic spell and the promise of a happy-ever-after.

The spell breaks when legal questions arise and Juliet faces the horror of not knowing if she is married to her knight in shining armor or the cruel viscount who is determined to have her at any price.

At this point in the story, Amiable has rebuffed Juliet’s flirtation him, leaving her despondent and him repentant.  So he’s come to her room to make amends and finds himself  “bowing to the inevitable.”

Excerpt:

As he lifted his mouth toward hers, a tingle of anticipation skittered across her lips. Had, in fact, started to generate a fire of their own from within. Then his lips took hers, all the warmth and desire she had hoped for there, in that first touch.

Slowly, patiently, he caressed her mouth. He drew her closer, in body and soul, until she lay in his arms, cradled like a baby. Warm and safe, even though in the arms of a virtual stranger. He didn’t feel like a stranger, but familiar, like coming home after a long absence.

He left her and whispered, “Better now?” Then he resumed the kiss before she could even nod.

Deepening the kiss, he slid his tongue into the depths of her mouth. She tasted the wine from dinner and an underlying sweetness that had nothing to do with spirits but rather with his essence. Heat rose all over her body, seeping into her from every point where they touched. She stretched in his lap, slipped her arms around his neck, and drew him closer to her. Savored every single moment of indescribable pleasure. And wanted more.

She ran her fingers up into the silky, disheveled hair at his nape and pressed him to her, greedy for the feel of him. Her lips rubbed against his, slow and sensuous. With her tongue she chased his, now shy, now bold, until she unexpectedly plunged it into his mouth, eliciting a startled groan from him.

He clutched her to him then broke away to again whisper in her ear. “My love.”

“Amiable” was all she could manage before she pulled him back to her.

“No, my dear. Wait.” He sat her up and slid her off his lap but kept her close, his arm around her, her head nestled on his shoulder.

“Amiable.” She reached across him, inadvertently brushing her hand over his abdomen.

“Juliet.” He grabbed it and placed it on his chest. “I warn you, love, I am no saint.”

She pulled herself up until she stared into the smoldering blue eyes. “Then be a sinner, my dear.”

Amiable groaned and grabbed her head, crushed her lips against his again with a ferocity that stole her breath.

He wanted her, every bit as much as she wanted him. So be it. With a sigh of bliss, she abandoned herself to him.

Cover Reveal ~ Only Marriage Will Do ~ New Excerpt

As promised, another new excerpt for today!

At his point in the story, Amiable has rebuffed Juliet’s flirtation him, leaving her despondent and him repentant.

Excerpt:

At the touch of his fingers on her cheek, Juliet lost her battle with the tears. She had sworn not to shed a single one over him, but now they flooded her face as the ache in her chest reached a terrible crescendo.

“Juliet, my dear.”

As the first sob tore from her throat, he scooped her up, bore her over to the parlor’s sofa, and settled her in his lap. “Juliet, do not cry, my love. You break my heart.”

He pressed her head to his chest, heedless of the torrent that soaked into his jacket.

She could not stop, however. The misery at what she intended to do overwhelmed her. She must send him away, she must.

Her cries intensified, banishment from Amiable a sentence too terrible to contemplate. The pain cut so deep for a brief moment she wished to die just to escape it. Finally, she managed to stem the tide to a trickle. Soul-wrenching grief gave way to bleak despair. She lay exhausted on his broad chest, too tired now to even move her head.

“My dear,” he spoke quietly into her ear. “What has happened to make you so unhappy?”

She struggled up, trying to catch her breath. She risked a glance at him and wished she hadn’t. Tears threatened again. “I…I c-came to tell you I no longer r-require your services as escort, Captain Dawson.” There. She had said it. “You may return to London on the morrow, sir.”

“I see.” He held her steady with one hand while the other pushed back a stray wisp of hair straggling from her coiffure. “That would be a most prudent move.” He captured another escaping strand and stroked it into place behind her ear, then wiped her tears away with his thumb.

Could he not see her misery? Would he add to it with his kindness? Such attentions made it almost impossible to continue with her resolve.

“However, I do not think I will go, my lady, if it is all the same to you.”

She fought to keep her composure. “I, however, no longer require your escort, sir. I will journey on alone.”

Amiable smiled patiently but shook his head. “I fear not, my dear.”

“I will.” She tried to pull away from his grasp but he held her still.

“Most definitely not.” He wrapped his hand around the back of her head, urging her face closer to his.

“Wh—what are you doing, Captain Dawson?” His blue eyes were her whole world.

“Bowing to the inevitable, my love.” Then his mouth met hers.

Jenna’s 411 ~ 4/07/2015

26572416_s

Welcome back to another week’s installment of Jenna’s 411!

Book Chat ~ Cover Reveal!

Marriage 2It’s finally here!  On Monday, at long last, I revealed the cover for my June release, Only Marriage Will Do. What do you think? I really love it, so romantic. I may very well keep it as my banner for my blog!

And as promised, here’s another excerpt from Only Marriage Will Do.  We are a little further along in the book. Juliet has fled the threat of Viscount St. Cyr, heading north to her brother’s estate near Scotland. She stops for the night in a coaching inn some ways out of London:

Excerpt:

The clock on the mantle chimed the quarter-hour. After one o’clock in the morning and, despite the excitement of the day, her escape from London, her afternoon nap and its disturbing dream, Juliet still couldn’t sleep.

After almost an hour of tossing and turning in her wretched bed, she’d sent Glynis to the kitchen to see if they had kept hot water over the fire. Perhaps a bath would soothe her enough to make sleep possible. Had she brought her lavender oil? So calming. Surely that would help.

She slipped on her robe and padded to her traveling trunk at the end of the bed. She lifted the lid and pulled out the box that held her soaps and perfumes. As she checked the vials, a tentative knock sounded at the door.

“Come in, Glynis.” She uncapped a vial and sniffed the contents. Jasmine. No. Not for the bath.

The door opened.

“Are they bringing the tub? I think the lavender oil will help me relax.”

“Very good, my lady.” The deep masculine voice froze her, vial in hand.

Her head snapped up.

A towering male figure stood shadowed in the doorway.

Dear God, Philippe had found her.

“Or is it Mrs. Dawson perhaps?”

No accent. He was not Philippe. A hired thug sent to kidnap her?

Strength drained away. She dropped the box and whirled around, seeking a way out of the room that suddenly seemed to close in on her.

Bottles crashed and the reek of jasmine filled the room. Juliet shrieked and stumbled back behind the bed. Trapped. Easy prey.

The man raced toward her, calling out something she couldn’t hear for the blood pounding in her ears. The candle he carried blew out. He cursed and reached for her.

“Nooo! Get away. Don’t touch me.” Slapping at his hands, she twisted to avoid him and landed with a thud, flat on her back. Air rushed out of her lungs.

He sped around the end of the bed.

She struggled to scream for Glynis, but produced only a high-pitched squeak.

The man knelt beside her.

Dear Lord, where was her rescuer now?

On the Home Front ~  Happy Birthday!

Precious BirthdayOn Sunday we celebrated a very special birthday in our family. Our cat, Precious, is now 22 years old!  We discovered her in a litter of kittens whose mother had died and whose owners had divorced and quit living at the house. They were about to starve and we took all five in. Precious is the last one living. Happy Birthday, sweet girl! We celebrated with chocolate cake for the humans and liver and catnip mice for the Kitty of Honor.

This year for Easter I made a major sacrifice: I gave up bagels for Lent. Not the supreme sacrifice I have done in the past of either coffee or tea, but still high on my list of indispensable foods. So now they are back on my breakfast table (I’ve had one every morning since Easter) and I’m a very happy woman again. My absolute favorite is the everything bagel, but unfortunately I haven’t found them in a gluten-free bagel. But I have onion, berry and sourdough, as well as plain, so I’m not complaining at all!

So, how’s your week been?

Excerpt: (Continued from yesterday)

London July 2, 1761

Amiable froze. This woman had married Katarina’s brother? If so, he certainly had an obligation to protect her. But where the devil was Jack? He bowed to the man and said simply, “My lord.”

“Philippe and I were betrothed for a short time last year, my dear. Before the scandal put an end to it.” Trembling, she stared St. Cyr down.

“That was none of my doing, Juliet. My father broke the betrothal, not I.” He spoke English with a cultured French accent and gave an impassioned plea that wavered by the end.

“Then I must write a letter of gratitude to the Count de Mallain.” Juliet rubbed her wrist, glanced at St. Cyr, and drew closer to Amiable’s side. The afternoon sun glinted off a tear in the gold trim of her rose gown. “He saved me from making a dire mistake.”

“Juliet, how can you say such things?” St. Cyr grasped his walking stick and twisted the knob. “We are meant to be together, chérie. I thought of nothing but you the whole long year we have been apart.”

“That is hardly your concern now, my lord. The lady is my wife and however much you may regret losing her, I must ask you to refrain from such statements of affection lest it become a matter of honor.” He itched to lay his hand to his sword again but did not wish for the situation to escalate. Yet.

“Oh, but it is my concern, my lord.” The Frenchman stalked toward them, one deliberate step after another. “I have the prior claim to dear Juliet. In fact, I must insist you remove your hands from my wife immediately.”

“Your wife?” Amiable scowled at the Frenchman, although his resolve slipped. Had he stuck his nose into a proper quarrel between husband and wife? Would he never learn to control his impetuous nature? Certainly not if it concerned a woman in distress, it seemed. He pushed Juliet behind him.

“You must stop saying that, Philippe. I am not your wife.” Tears glistened, and she blinked them back.

He admired courage in a woman. She might not be his Katarina, but she deserved his protection nonetheless.

“Why would you claim such a thing, man?” he demanded. “Juliet and I were married properly, with the banns read and in a church.” He prayed she had given the man no particulars before he had arrived.

“Our ceremony was no less proper. The magistrate performed it before witnesses.”

“Why have you not spoken to me of this, my dear?” Give the woman her head. He’d become quite interested himself in what had transpired.

“I never married him, Jack. You must believe me.” She sank her fingers into his arm in a death grip as her eyes sent a desperate plea for his confidence in her. “I never spoke my vows to him.”

“You did not need to, ma petite, as you well know. Jeanette spoke them for you,” St. Cyr snapped, his voice loud in the small room.

Lord, give me strength… “Who is Jeanette? If she spoke the vows, then you are married to her, my lord. Not Lady Manning.”

St. Cyr sneered. “The Marquess of Dalbury sent Jeanette Valois to France as proxy so his sister and I could marry despite the circumstances. When my father broke the betrothal, I acted against his wishes and went through with the ceremony with Jeanette standing in for Juliet.” St. Cyr leered at her. “So you see, I am your true husband as I have the prior claim. Even though secret, the marriage is valid. You belong to me.” He reached for Juliet’s hand.

Cover Reveal ~ Only Marriage Will Do by Jenna Jaxon

At long last, I am very, VERY happy to reveal the cover for my next Georgian romance

The spell breaks when legal questions arise and Juliet faces the horror of not knowing if she is married to her knight in shining armor or the cruel viscount who is determined to have her at any price.

Excerpt:

London July 2, 1761

The brass lion-head knocker under Amiable Dawson’s hand sent a sharp rap through the dark walnut door of Dunham House for the second time. The hot July sun hadn’t done his temper any good as he waited on the marble stoop for entrance to the Marquess of Dalbury’s townhouse. He’d been in a foul mood ever since the news of his beloved Katarina’s marriage to the marquess had reached him. Blast it to hell, he was supposed to have married the girl. At least he could make sure she was well and well taken care of by this man she had married.

At last a short, dark-haired maid opened the door. She took one look at him, gasped, and stepped back into the house. Her eyes widened and she glanced to her right, wringing her hands. “Who may I say—”

A man shouted from within. “No, I do not believe you.”

“It is true, I tell you!” A woman’s voice, raised and sharp with terror, sent a chill through Amiable.

Katarina. What in God’s name?

He barged past the stunned girl and strode down the hall toward the commotion. He burst through the doorway, expecting to defend the woman he loved, only to stop dead at the sight of a man lunging across a sofa and grasping a woman by the wrist. Amiable had half drawn his sword before he realized the woman was not Katarina, but a complete stranger. He dropped it back into its scabbard. This was none of his affair.

The young man, foppishly dressed in a robin’s egg blue satin coat dripping too many layers of frothy lace at throat and wrists looked at Amiable, a snarl on his lips.

Taking advantage of the distraction, the woman wrenched her arm from the man’s grip. “Praise God. Here he is.” She staggered as she righted herself. “Now you will have to believe me, Philippe.”

The fop scrambled back off the sofa and groped for a black lacquer walking stick that lay on the floor. Lips pressed together, he glowered at the woman. “That remains to be seen, ma chere. In any case, I have shown you the papers. They speak for themselves.”

The woman ran from behind the sofa to Amiable’s side, grazed a kiss over his cheek and whispered, “For God’s sake, help me. I am alone here and he is trying to take me away. Please, agree with whatever I say.”

Smiling into her pleading face, he grasped her hands and gave them a gentle squeeze to signal his acquiescence. “Whatever is the matter, my dear?” Hell if he knew. But he could play his part, even with little information. Let the lady lead and he’d follow as well as he could.

The woman smiled then took a deep breath. “My dear, may I present Viscount St. Cyr?” She nodded toward the fop. “Philippe, this is my husband, the Earl of Manning.”

Medieval Monday ~ 4/5/15 Jenna Jaxon

MedMon

Welcome back to Medieval Monday!

Today I’m introducing myself as an author of medieval romance, for all of you who have not read my medieval works before. I have a medieval trilogy, Time Enough to Love (Betrothal, Betrayal, and Beleaguered) and in about two weeks a short story (that occurs chronologically at about the halfway point of Beleaguered) will be released.  It’s called Beloveds. Two things are different: first, it is very definitely erotic romance, not sensual like my others, and second, if you read it before the rest of the series, you will find spoilers. So if you don’t like to have things spoiled, read the first three before number four. 🙂

I do not have the cover for the new book yet. It should be on Ashley York’s blog next week and her work will be featured here on mine. (You’ll get a sneak peek at the cover, which won’t be revealed officially until the next day!’

So, without further ado, here is an excerpt for Beloveds:

7992408_mShe hovered between sleep and wakefulness, squeezing her eyes shut against the horrible pain in her head, the ache all over her body. Sleep. Everything would be all right if she could just rest a while. She pulled the bedclothes closer and willed herself to relax. ‘Twould be all right. Thomas had always said that. They had been his last words to her.

“Alyse.”

The familiar voice tugged at the edges of consciousness. Had Geoffrey returned so soon? The sound did not have his deep tone. Yet ‘twas a voice she knew well, rich and sensual.

“Do not fret, sweet. ‘Twill be all right.”

Alyse struggled to open her eyes, though the heavy lids fought against her.

The bed dipped as someone sat beside her. Geoffrey had returned then. The illness must have affected her hearing, for she’d swear it had not been he who had spoken.

A soft hand cupped her face and she pressed her cheek against it, luxuriating in its warmth. She smiled and her eyes fluttered open at last.

The man seated on the bed possessed shoulder-length honey-blond hair and warm, seductive brown eyes. He also defied fashion and wore a thin mustache and beard. His eyes lit up when he noticed she was awake and his mouth turned up in the lazy smile she had come to know so very well.

“Thomas.” The name came out a croak. Holy Father, had she conjured him up with her guilt and longing? She shrank back into the pillows.

His smile widened and he caressed her, running one long finger along her jaw. “Aye, sweet Alyse. ‘Tis I. Do you feel better now, my love?”

“Better?” She must be dying to see such an apparition. Mayhap she was already dead and in heaven.

“Aye. You do not shiver as you did a moment ago. I hoped that meant you felt warmer.” He picked up her hand and kissed the knuckles.

Warmth cascaded through her, soothing her, making her body tingle with that single touch of his lips.

“Is it really you?” Strength welled within her and she struggled to sit up.

“As ever I was.” He smiled, his bold gaze sweeping down her body. His eyes darkened with the desire she remembered well.

“Oh, Thomas.” She threw her arms around him, sighing when they embraced the hard-muscled chest she had lain upon so often. “I thought you dead, my love. Did I but dream?”

“Shhh, my sweet. I am here now.” He stroked her head, then pulled it back to peer into her face. “I will always be with you, love.” He sank his mouth onto hers and she melted at  the touch of his insistent lips.

Like coming home.

Beloveds will be available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble soon.

Weekend Writing Warriors ~ 4/05/15 Only Marriage Will Do

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors!

Happy Easter!  May all your chocolate bunnies be delicious!

I’m back again this week  with more of my soon to be released Georgian historical Only Marriage Will Do. This is the  book some of you might have been waiting for, as it is the next book after Only Scandal Will Do in which we will find out just what happened to the Marquess of Dalbury’s sister, Juliet.  There has been some very creative punctuation demonstrated in this snippet this week to make it 8 sentences. Please forgive the awkwardness.

And here is my gorgeous cover for Only Marriage Will Do! Tomorrow is the official reveal, but I thought you all should get a sneak peek (since it’s technically already on Amazon and  B & N).

In my snippet this week, I’m back-tracking to earlier in the novel. Juliet has just asked Amiable to  play along and pose as her husband to get rid of the man who claims to be her husband.

Marriage 2“Juliet, mon amour,” St. Cyr said, reverting to his native French, “he is a barbarian compared to me, my dear. I can make you forget him, forget any of his crude gestures of love. Do you remember our embrace at the king’s Christmas court ball? Such a quaint custom of the mistletoe. You seemed to long for more than just my tongue that night, my sweet.”

“Philippe, please,” Juliet said and shrank from him, blushing until her face matched the hue of her dress.

“I fear you did not heed my words earlier, St. Cyr,” Amiable replied in flawless French, pulling his sword free. “You have just besmirched the honor of my wife and I will have satisfaction of you.”

Blurb for Only Marriage Will Do:

Only Marriage Will Do is on pre-order at Amazon and Barnes & Noble!

That’s all for this week. Hope you enjoyed it!

And don’t forget to check out the rest of the Warriors here.  There’s some fantastic snippets to be read.

K is for Kiss

C_un_smac_2013-10-24_20-45

Come on, admit it. Kissing is one of your favorite things. And if you can’t do it, the next best thing might be reading about it in a spicy romance novel. Kissing certainly ramps up the steam both in real life and on the page. But why does that scorching kiss get you all hot and bothered and ready to turn that next page?

There are a host of reasons why kissing is the precursor to sex. First and foremost, the human lips have more touch receptors in them than almost any other part of the body except the fingertips. Lips have the most sensitivity and your brain has the speed to transmit what’s happening to the lips at the greatest speed, therefore our lips are more sensitive to any stimuli they come into contact with.

One of the best ways to arouse a man or woman in a kiss is to nibble on their ear. This can be downright erotic if you take your partner’s earlobe in your mouth and suck on it, then slowly trace the rim of their ear with your tongue. For an added bonus, whisper something naughty as you’re doing this. I’ve written kisses like this in several of my books, and I’ll tell you, it works every time to put your partner in the mood. LOL

“French” kissing, or in romance novels, “deepening the kiss,” is the best way to ensure a pleasurable time for both partners. Passionate kisses—mouths open, tongues intertwined—raises the blood pressure, makes your heart beat faster, and generally excites you more than closed-mouth kisses. When the body is excited, it is much easier for both men and women to achieve orgasm. Perhaps that is why over 50% more men said they would have sex with a bad kisser than women would.

And finally one little piece of historic trivia about kisses. The letter “X” has long stood for a kiss when writing letters. The “X” stood for a kiss. But did you know it came from the Middle Ages? The custom of signing your name with an “X” arose because most people then couldn’t write their name. At the time letters, oaths, and anything legal was signed with an “X” then the person kissed the “signature,” in effect swearing to its veracity and sealing it with a kiss.

Thus endeth your “kissing” lesson. 🙂
