HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!
Happy Mother’s Day to all my readers and writers! I hope your day is spent with those you love. For the first time in 19 years, I’m spending all day with my family, including breakfast served in bed by mu daughters. Every Mother’s Day since 2002, I’ve been at graduation at the university where I worked. With the school switched to remote learning this semester, graduation is postponed until September. So I finally get to sleep in, eat breakfast in bed, and have my daughters and husband around me all day.
To begin May off fresh, last week I shifted to the first of my Widows’ Club books, To Woo A Wicked Widow, because all the e-books of the Widows’ Club series are on sale this month!

I began my snippets last week well into the book. Nash, the Earl of Wrotham, is in the midst of trying to stop a gang of robbers who are terrorizing the countryside. Lady Charlotte, with whom he is falling in love, has suddenly come to visit him at his house–a scandalous thing for a lady–even a widow–to do. This snippet picks up immediately after last week’s snip.

EXCERPT:
“My lady, what a lovely surprise.” Nash rushed toward her and raised her hand to his mouth, letting his lips linger as he studied her face–what could have brought her here without a companion?
“I am so pleased to see you, my lord; I recently returned from London and wanted to call on you.” She stared back at him, eyes bright, smile wide, then squeezed the hand he still kissed–not as if to say, “Let go,” but rather as though…good Lord, was the woman flirting with him?
Taken aback by this possibility, Nash released her hand and bowed saying, “I am delighted to see you again as well, my lady; when I heard you had removed to London, I feared we would be deprived of the pleasure of your company for quite some time to come, so I am pleased to see that those fears were unfounded.”
Her brilliant smile went straight to his heart.
“Please, my lord, I believe we are beyond the formalities–will you not call me Charlotte?”
A rush of hot blood shot from his head straight to his groin, his breathing came sharper and a metallic taste flooded his mouth.
“I would be delighted to do so…Charlotte.” The name sounded like liquid gold.

I’m not sure he can keep up with her actually, as she moves right past all the societal expectations, but I love it! This is a fun take on the Regency narrative – great snippet!

FYI, we just relaxed the rules on wewriwa. I wrote about it on my 8sunday post this week. You won’t have to change punctuation or write run on sentences anymore. 🙂
