I do try to conserve as much as possible. I reuse/recycle/repurpose, use reusable water bottles & shopping bags, energy saving light bulbs, wash with cold water/only with full loads, paperless bills, pay bills online/by phone, limit travel/driving and make it count by doing more with each trip, and read ebooks. These are just a few of the things I do, and I am always looking for ways to add to my list.

We are trying to do our part with recycling, reducing the energy we use., conserving water. There is always more that we can do, and blogs like this give us so many ideas. Thank you!

We all need to recycle more and stop the pollution being done by big companies. We need to make them more accountable for their actions.

My family recycles all our newspapers and junk mail at the schools, they have a big bin there and they get some money for the volume of paper they recycle so it helps out the school and helps in the recycling process. A win, win situation.

There are so many things that people know about now. Recycling, composting, turning off electricity when you leave a room.

But I think why some of the people who don’t do anything or follow through, is because they get daunted by all the different things. If everyone just did one thing and then try to add things over time, instead of trying to do more than one thing at a time, there would be more success.

    Thanks!

  7. We do as much as we can:
    ~use non-toxic cleaning products
~dishwasher uses less hot water and does NOT have a heat dry cycle
~turn down/off AC/heater when gone and unplug all electronics/appliances not needed
    ~recycle garbage as best can
~recycle all plastic bags at wal-mart (they take ANY store’s plastic bag)
~use reusable bags when shopping (hubby doesn’t which is why we have plastic bags to recycle)
~combine errands so do less driving
~new car is smaller, uses less gas, and is used for around town only
~hubby drives 1993 Nissan Sentra to work (1 hr each way)…car still gets 40mpg highway!!
~cold water for washes (hot for bedding, though)
Ok, gonna stop…we aren’t perfect but we try hard to be good to the Earth!

I use natural cleaning products, recycle, wash laundry in full loads with cold water, air dry dishes. Many things I do because I was trying to save money, I ended up trying to save the Earth!

    Happy Earth Day to All.

I try to do a lot to save the enviroment. I was my clothes in cold water and during the summer months I hang them out to dry instead of putting them in the dryer. I don’t run the television or lights unless I am in the room. And I recycle my walmart bags back to the store so they can make more.

We could open windows when it is hot instead of using the A/C. Or when it is cold, use a fireplace instead of oil or electricity for heating. More people can install solar panels for their homes and maybe we can convert our vehicles to run on something other than gas (at least something affordable).
    Happy Earth Day!

I’ve used cloth rewashable pads for a number of years now and plan to eventually get a menstrual cup, both of which save the Earth from obscene amounts of garbage (though my mother refuses to get over her disgust at them, no matter how many times I’ve tried to explain the rationale behind them and how they’re no longer some fringe thing). I’ll also be using cloth diapers if I have kids before I’m too old, though I’m not so hippie-ish I’d use cloth toilet paper!

  16. We aren’t the biggest recyclers, but we do try. We use canvas bags for shopping, we use the library alot so we are not buying lots of books, we can in the summer so we are not buying canned food. We don’t burn and we do lots of mulch.

Great pictures and ideas. We all can do just a few small changes to our daily live to cut down our distruction of our planet. Reusable bags, coffee cups and water bottles. Full dishwashers and wash machines, clothes lines and cap pooling just a few.

I have some access to an expert on these things, and in discussions with him I have become convinced that the #1 way to “save the Earth” is to make everyone as rich as possible as quickly as possible. That sounds rather simplistic, but you can think about it this way: if you’re worried about basic sustenance, you’re not going to be worried about fluorescent light bulbs or global warming.

Maslow’s Hiearchy of needs! Exactly. I don’t think I’m going to argue with you there, Patricia! 🙂 We’ve talked about installing solar panels in our house–but they’re too expensive. I would love to get a VOLT–again, too expensive. But some day…:)
